Ke’Shawn Vaughn A No. 1 Back?

March 2nd, 2022

Bucs RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

The 2022 Bucs could look a whole lot different than the Bucs of the past two seasons. One area could be at running back.

Playoff Lenny is a free agent. And yesterday Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht seemed ready to wave goodbye to Ronald Jones.

But a guy who got quite a few touches late last season got big time props from Licht at the Indiana Convention Center, host of the combine.

And that is running back is Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

“I think Ke’Shawn has made massive strides this year,” Licht said. “I think Ke’Shawn has the ability to be a starting running back.

“But, in that stable, you want multiple running backs that can help carry the load and do different things. But, we think very highly of Ke’Shawn.”

Joe knows that Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians has said in the past that he thought Vaughn could be a starter in the NFL.

Given the uncertain future of Playoff Lenny and the predictable future of Ronald Jones, Joe has a feeling “Sneak” will have every opportunity to win the No. 1 gig this summer.

Wow, what an endorsement from his boss …

“I THINK Ke’Shawn has the ability to be a starting running back.
We THINK very highly of Ke’Shawn.”

So no Tom Brady. No Antonio Brown. Chris Godwin MIGHT go elsewhere. Gronk MIGHT go elsewhere. Lenny Fournette MIGHT go elsewhere. Gio Bernard MIGHT go elsewhere. We’re missing THREE starting OLinemen. Kyle Trask MIGHT start or maybe Blaine Gabbert MIGHT start.

But we’re OK I guess, because JL THINKS Ke-Shawn has the ability to be a starting RB. I guess we can all sleep well tonight knowing that our Bucs’ management is awake & is brimming with confidence.

  2. Que5 Says:

Connor, Edmonds, Michel or Gordon will be a Bucs free agent signing. Gio will re-sign also

  3. 1#bucsfan Says:

With the extra game added last season basically need 4 backs. You need a 1,2 punch and then you need a 3rd down back then a 4th who can come in for a injured player. I like Lenny. He’s can be a every down back if needed. He’s well rounded. Then you keep Vaughn and that gives you the 1,2 punch then gio can be our 3rd down back and we draft a 4th for injury purpose

  4. Hodad Says:

We’ll see how the 2022 Bucs shape out, but yes this team will have a very different look. From what I got out of Arains yesterday he seems content to roll with Gabbert, and bring along Trask. He did sound like he wants to keep our three FA’s on the O line. If you’re going with a lesser QB, better keep a good O line intact as much as possible. If we invest in the O line, and pay Godwin, I think we go D line in the draft. Won’t be able to pay Suh, and JPP, and really shouldn’t. Gholston I think comes back.

  5. TBChucky Says:

I agree Hodad. I think they’ll likely roll with Trask and Gabbert. I’d prefer to throw the kid in there in that scenario. I think we’ll likely keep 2 out of the 3 OL players. Have a feeling one walks. Likely the Angry Ginger Jensen.. As far as RBs I think we’ll sign one, and draft at least one. Maybe Gio comes back on the cheap if he doesn’t mind playing without Brady.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yes, right now….KeShawn is our #1 RB……Trask is our # 1 QB, Brate is our # 1 TE, Hainsey is our #1 Center…..and Nick Leverett is our #1 LG & #1 RG.

  7. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

They really need to make Lenny a high priority. I don’t care what Licht says Vaughn is not & never will be a starting running back. I would rather see Conner or Michel signed on the cheap.

  8. Bruce Blahak Says:

    need 2….mid round pick/picks, re-sign Bernard.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

TBBF … You left out that Tyler Johnson is our #2 WR. And oh ya, that we still have a SB roster.

  10. Robert Says:

all we need now is an LL Cool J song

    “don’t call it a rebuild”

  11. Weebs10 Says:

Defense Rules, I feel sorry for you if you’re losing sleep over the Bucs in March lol

  12. Bobby M. Says:

I like Vaughn….reminds me of Lesean McCoy. Quick, shifty, can run and catch. I think folks need to remember we only saw bits and pieces of Vaughn because that’s what Brady preferred. Brady liked Fournette….he liked Brate….he had particular guys he preferred which probably limited Vaughn’s opportunity to make much of an impact. I’m a big believer RBs NEEEED reps to get into rhythm and not necessarily touches but they need to be on the field consistently. For Brady, the preference there was Fournette but I thought Vaughn showed real ability and was certainly the preferred back up over Rojo down the stretch.

  13. Marine Buc Says:

    K. Vaughn belongs in a rotation with at least two other backs.

He is not a starter… Not on a “Super Bowl ready” roster anyways.

    lol

  14. Cobraboy Says:

DR: you’re being a little harsh on Licht and Arians.

We are in the middle of Liar’s Poker season.

Believe nothing coming from the lips of NFL coaches or execs until after the draft and the first two waves of FA.

  15. gotbbucs Says:

    @ Defense Rules
You’re right, we don’t have a Super Bowl roster. We weren’t a Super Bowl roster at the end of last year either. We were barely a Super Bowl roster when we won it.. We caught lightning in a bottle at the end of the year. With that in mind, why would we ever trade for a super star QB?
This can still be a very competitive roster if the o-line is reassembled. Our Super Bowl winning season proves that the main goal is just to get into the playoffs. After that anything can happen.
No, I don’t believe this coming season is going to be a great one. We’ll be playing against a #1 schedule with lots of moving parts on the roster. This WILL BE a rebuilding season. It has to be. This will be the price we pay for what they did the previous offseason when they kicked salary down the road to bring back the whole team. At some point the Piper is going to have to be paid.
Who they are able to re-sign of our own free agents will tell the story. If enough of them go elsewhere then it’s a rebuild and we pray for good compensatory picks to build with.
It is what it is. I know you’re just trying to point out the nonsense of the current narrative. I’m trying to go into this season with a realistic expectation hoping for a positive result.

  16. Listnfrmafar Says:

Pretty small sample size, he had his positive and negative moments.

  17. Marine Buc Says:

    @ weebs10

I don’t think it’s about losing sleep over the Bucs in March.

Some fans are just more realistic and have done some research and are more informed than others…

The more informed fans are growing tired of hearing over and over and over the Bucs have a “win now” and “Super Bowl ready” roster. It is getting old and stale and is just silly and uninformed thing to say.

Also – just because it’s March does that mean we quit being Buc fans? I enjoy debating and discussing the off season as much as the regular season.

  18. adam from ny Says:

any running back drafted rounds 1 thru 7 has the ability to be a starting back in the nfl…

so this statement is a joke

  19. RustyRhinos Says:

Give Vaughn the ball 15-20 times every game and he will get his 1000 yards.
I am fine with Vaughn as #1 RB. He has been humble and learned our playbook while he waited his turn. Last year’s RB’s are FA, and I could see us taking another RB in the draft. maybe sign another FA RB.

  20. Buczilla Says:

Licht hasn’t been good at drafting running backs up until this point, but I’m hoping that Vaughn can break the trend.

  21. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Buczilla , who are the RBs that Licht drafted that you speak of ? Last time I checked the RBs he drafted had at least a few good seasons. But go ahead and correct me if I’m wrong . And don’t say RONALD JONES
