The whole “Gabbert is our starter” thing may be a giant ruse, designed to make other teams think we are not desperate for a QB ?
And, like Ira just said “If Gabbert is going to be the starter, what does that say about Trask” ?
The bottom line to all of this is the Bucs were totally unprepared for Brady retiring.
That much is obvious, which begs the Question, why did Brady not tell The Bucs staff of his plans, to give more time to prepare for them ?

You really can’t fault a player, especially a lineman, for retiring……with the knowledge we now have of CTE…coupled with Ali Marpet’s concussions….who can blame him…..he’s got plenty of money for himself and his family for generations…..he played it safe.

Ira and company are being very short sighted when analyzing the Gabbert talk. Yes, if you isolate it without taken anything else into consideration then of course that’s the conclusion you would come to. But obviously there’s so much more to this senecio. Have they ever heard of the phrase “a means to an end”?
You mean a means to not winning a Super Bowl? The Watson angle is unrealistic given how much cap room you’d have to clear just in hope of him appearing. –Joe
The definition of this phrase is: “something that helps you achieve what you want, although it may not be enjoyable or important in it’s self”. That is what we have when considering the Gabbert talk. By signing Gabbert you leave many options open as you proceed through the off-season. Some are more possible than others. First, it leaves the door open for Brady to return no matter how remote that possibility is. Second, it leaves the door open to a Watson trade once his legal issues are resolved. Even if they drag deep into the summer. Third, it allows you to keep developing Trask and see if he is the potential future QB1. Fourth, if all of the above don’t happen then we haven’t tied up unnecessary cap space and we can move forward into 2023 with a high draft pick to find our future QB1. There suggestion that somehow Bridgewater or any other middling free agent is a better choice makes no sense. What does that gain you? An extra win or two that drops you in draft position and eats up more of our precious cap room. Gabbert is a means to an end. You can’t take it at face value. This is a Chess game not Checkers.

Joe, I completely agree with you about Watson being unrealistic due to the cap space he would take up. Not to mention the draft picks it would take. I only mentioned that as an option THEY may be considering because Arians is in a win now mode and isn’t interested in building for the future. It is definitely not something I am endorsing. My point is that signing Gabbert leaves many options open and doesn’t close the door on anything. Thanks for the feedback.

How big of a fool is Arians gonna look like if Gabberts the guy and he stinks in up and we start 1-4 and our seasons over because of this Gamble? I think it would almost be a fireable offense. Are team is too good to not be able to make the playoffs
