Bucs Outworked Chiefs For First German NFL Home Game

February 26th, 2022

Bucs hosting Chiefs in Munich?

It seems Chiefs shot-caller Clark Hunt, also known in high society circles, gossip pages and social media as the father of Gracie Hunt, did his damnedest to be the first NFL team to host an NFL regular-season game in Germany.

But Team Glazer had the trump card to outflank Hunt.

And that card was a ninth home game in 2022. And so it will be the Bucs, and not the Chiefs, making history in Germany this fall.

Per the German newspaper Bild, the Chiefs did a lot of work behind to scenes to be the first NFL team to host a game in Deutschland, per Tobias Altschaffl and Nils Suling. One example was that the game will be played at Allianz Arena, home to something called FC Bayern, a kickball team of some note in Munich. Hunt also owns a kickball team in Dallas and Hunt signed an agreement with FC Bayern to share players, training and coaching practices, sort of like a minor league feeder team to its big brother FC Bayern.

Apparently per Bild, the NFL doesn’t want this Munich game to conflict with a London game. The game looks to be played either in October or November.

Also per Bild, it appears the Chiefs are the expected road team to play the Bucs.

Now the question Joe has is, will Deshaun Watson be able to obtain a passport?

I don’t quite get what a “seventh” home game has to do with anything?
Also, how exactly did we win by losing a home game? Seems to me the road team is the winner.

  2. catcard202 Says:

Sounds like the Sales & Marketing Department found a way to sell all the TB12 & Gronk jersey’s they had pre-ordered for 2022…

  3. Joe Says:

    Sparky:

Should have read “ninth” game, an extra home game.

  4. Vico Says:

Sounds like Chiefs will have all their home games but the bucs won’t.

  5. Christos Says:

As a Bucs fan in Greece i m happy that i can see the team for the 2nd time, was able to be in London 2019. Hopefully all the Covid restrictions are gone by then and we dont have a problem with all that.
Joes you should organize a meeting at a pub or something, will be happy to meet you guys.

  6. Cleanhouse Says:

Maybe the league could throw a side deal to Brady to get him to stay w Tampa- you know an off the books type thing- could only help them w the publicity-
Like Michael Jordan and the Bulls playing overseas

  7. SufferingSince76 Says:

The only thing this game does is give more money to the already greedy NFL. If Europe wanted American football, NFL Europe would have succeeded.

  8. Biff Barker Says:

The NFL is just simply stupid! After 16 years of backing the World football league, it still seems to think Europe wants American football.

  9. Gbobucsfan Says:

It’s obviously making TONS of money or they wouldn’t keep doing it. Every time I look for tix to overseas game, sold-out in minutes.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Building the brand….NFL…and I guess the Bucs also….good for merchandise sales….

There you go. There is evidence that NFL more popular in Germany than England. NFL TV ratings in Germany aren’t bad.

  12. Jerry Says:

Unless Europe is in the middle of WW3 by then.

  13. mark2001 Says:

Oh my… Joe and Ira in the same Volkswagon after eating a dinner ladened with Sauerkraut? Open the windows, for heavens sake…..

  14. adam from ny Says:

    @mark2001:

no the joe’s won’t be driving around because they will be sauced up to the nth degree…

but hitler’s grandson just might be their cabdriver, and if they keep the windows closed they could dutch oven the mofo

  15. adam from ny Says:

sorry joe’s it’s just a joke in poor taste ^^^^^^^^

  16. Jeff Says:

This is going to be a debacle. This is a 6-11 team without a competent QB and Scheme. Backs to Arians primitive offensive scheme. It’s fun to average 2 picks per game!

  17. WillieG Says:

The NFL will not want the Bucs, with a mutt QB being the first team to host a game in Germany. I think people know things we don’t know.

“We can’t give you the game, you don’t even have a QB.”

“Brady will un-retire in late July.”

    “The game is yours!”

Ok. It might not be Brady. Maybe………

It might not be Brady. But it will be a marquee QB. There is something going on behind the scenes because there is so much money at stake.

  18. Christos Says:

Gbobucsfan, is true. Bucs fan here in Greece and i have watched 2 games in London so far. Seahawks-Raiders 2018 and Bucs-Panthers 2019. The tickets that go on sale online are sold out within the first hour. I was waiting logged in on the site within the 1st minute and i was on queue for 30 minutes before i could purchase them.

  19. Anonymous Says:

So we lose a home game and home field advantage. That should make an already tough schedule easier 🙄

  20. Perimeter Blocker Says:

So we lose a home game and home field advantage? How does this make winning a game easier???🙄…just dumb…

  21. unbelievable Says:

    ^ It doesn’t.

It makes more $$$ for the Glazers / NFL.

  22. FortMyersDave Says:

The Bucs have never won overseas, 0-3 in UK as a home team. Right now, I would guess the Chiefs will be a big favorite in what is a neutral site game. I do not get how losing a home game is a plus for the team if they want to get back to the post season so its obvious that people like the Glazers, Khan of the Jags and Davis of the Raiders who all have never played an away game in the International series are more concerned about coin that winning the ****ing game! How much do the Glazers get for selling a home game Joe? $1,000,000?

  23. David Says:

As much as Buccaneer fans hate them losing a home game, it’s actually a good move. Coming off of two big seasons, a Super Bowl, a lot of exposure with Brady etc… to get over there and win a massive fan base in Germany means money for the NFL but also for the Buccaneers. More money means the Glaziers are more likely to be tapped out at the top of the cap to put the best team forward.
Plus, it might just be the biggest fan base for the NFL outside of Japan or South Korea because of the sheer number of military bases in Germany that have American football fans already there.
When the football league was playing in Europe, take a look at the amount of fans that turned out in Germany. It was a lot and most of them were from Americans from The military bases.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

OMG… playing the Chiefs and we’re starting Gabbert or Trask… Wow, talk about a downfall from the GOAT.

  25. Jerry Says:

That’s a big fat “L” on the schedule.

Might as well take that weekend off to go fishing and golfing.

  26. Dylan Says:

These games are stupid. How does playing a game overseas benefit the team at all? I hate these games and wish Tampa wasn’t playing one
