Dominant Mike Evans
February 24th, 2022Joe wouldn’t expect pushback after typing that Mike Evans is the best receiver in Bucs history. In fact, you really can’t argue against it.
Evans has 75 touchdown catches. That’s a franchise record and every touchdown he catches sets a new standard. But how impressive are Evans’ numbers?
Consider the No. 2 man on the Bucs’ all-time list for touchdown receptions is Jimmie Giles. The former bruising tight end had 34. If you double Giles’ total, he would still trail Evans. That is how dominant Evans has been.
It also demonstrates that the Bucs offense in its history was both putrid and prehistoric before 2015.
Evans also is the No. 4 the all-time leader for touchdown passes among active players. And this is pretty wild: the past two seasons, the Bucs had three of the top-four active touchdown receptions leaders on the same offense. Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown were the other two.
Throw in Tom Brady, Playoff Lenny and the other Bucs receivers (including Chris Godwin), but we will never see a more potent offensive the rest of our lives. (Joe hates typing that). That was an insane amount of production assembled by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.
Evans is currently No. 36 all-time in touchdown receptions, tied with Dez Bryant and James Lofton; the latter is in the Hall of Fame.

evans and brady did have a bit of an on field disconnect at times…
but not in the touchdown area…
in the couple years they were together, evans caught a few shy of giles total number of 34…
i think last i checked evan caught 29 brady td’s…
yes 29 in 2 years including playoffs

oops…forgot to add this post seasons td’s into the mix…
he had 29 going into this post season…
but he finished with 31 td catches in the 2 seasons………..31 !
so he had 31 in about 35 games over the past 2 years

They sure was fun to watch. The sad thing is, #2 and 4 haven’t played since Dutch was president. WTF have y’all been throwing to down there? Didn’t Vincent Jackson play for you guys? He can’t be far behind that group.

If Brate stays and Godwin re-signs, then the Licht-era receivers will occupy the top 3 spots.

We got to see two unique/historic units both take us to a SB championship. The old Bucs defense and the more recent high powered offense….both legendary and littered with HOF talent. Ironically two old school coaches guided us in both. For now, at least we get to continue watching Evans, hopefully Godwin as well.

There is ZERO doubt and absolutely no argument. Mike is the best receiver the Bucs have ever had.
We should all be enjoying this HOF preview while we still can.
