PFF Tribe Prediction: Please Welcome To Tampa Bay, Teddy Bridgewater
February 23rd, 2022Brace yourselves, Bucs fans. And please try not to throw your bowl of Wheaties across the kitchen.
The PFF tribe, the self-anointed sophists of football, are trying to plug in all of their top-50 free agents to the right team. Arjun Menon of the tribe believes he has the answer to the Bucs’ quarterback void.
And that answer honestly leads to more questions. His name is Teddy Bridgewater.
There aren’t a ton of places Bridgewater can step in and start, but Tampa Bay is a place where he could. Depending on if the Buccaneers choose to draft a rookie quarterback or keep developing Kyle Trask, Bridgewater can effectively serve as a bridge QB to whoever they choose to be their long-term answer. Bridgewater’s deal would be fairly cheap compared to the rest of the market, allowing the Bucs to pick and choose which in-house players they want to re-sign for 2022.
Yeah, Bridgewater is a bridge alright. A bridge back to losing again.
Joe has no idea what Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians sees in this guy. He stunk in Carolina two years ago and was rotten in Denver last year. That’s not a guy who can give you one more Super Bowl run before the window slams shut.
Honestly, Joe would rather roll with Blaine Gabbert. At least he knows the offense.
Would Bridgewater be able to lure Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, Ryan Jensen and Playoff Lenny back for another year? Joe doubts that.

you think the stands were empty with jameis…wait till teddy is under center…omg…
don’t the glazers make a bundle from tv time…and more from prime time and national games…
isn’t it important for the bucs to have a real face under center so to have continuity with national exposure as a top franchise in the league…
is bridgewater really still living solely off a 5 game winning streak to replace drew brees in new orleans, for a minute, a few years back — one would think he can’t be at this point…
do you embarrassingly just toss it all in the drain and become league bums again because brady left…
if the glazers invest in a qb, don’t their pockets reap the bennies in a million and one ways…
come on meng ! wtf
last time i checked we were the new america’s team

Teddy Bridgewater makes no sense. Signing him is akin to Lovie rolling with McClown back in ‘2014 and I doubt if Bucco Bruce is coming back to try and out tank the Panthers, Jets, Lions and Jags in that yearly race for the #1 overall draft pick. Signing Bridgewater is the same as running up the surrender flag. Lets face it, even a solid game manager (which Bridgewater is not) will only get a team to 9-8 or 10-7 and a first round exit from the playoffs unless the team has a D like the 2000 Ravens or 2002 Bucs. For a history lesson, look at how that great ’99 Buc defensive effort was wasted because of the anemic offense run by Shaun King. That is what Bridgewater will give a team.
February 23rd, 2022 at 6:20 am
Bridgewater is not the answer for this team, even if considered short term. Trask would make more sense. The results would probably be the same.
February 23rd, 2022 at 6:45 am
But … but … He was a first rounder! … AND he has started an NFL game!
February 23rd, 2022 at 6:58 am
Would rather have Jameis….he knows the offense….& the division’s defenses…knows most of the players & coaches….
Carnal knowledge of the Uber driver…..
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:01 am
bridgewater also has bum knees , is super fragile and injury prone…
he’s kinda skinny too…a guy like aaron donald would pull his ballsak right off his body, tuck it in his coat pocket, and walk away thinking about his next victim
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:05 am
NOOOOO!!!
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:05 am
Joe, 24 free agents, the window has shut. We keep talking like this is a super bowl roster, but it’s not anymore. We won’t know what kind of roster we’re going to have yet this season. Brady left because he saw this coming. Gabbert would be a better bridge to Trask than Teddy. Gabbert helped Brady learn this offense, him and Trask have a working relationship. Teddy would just get in the way.
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:16 am
Would be a strong smell coming from ray-jay — fans vomiting in the aisles
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:19 am
time to face the facts and pay the piper. We bought the superbowl with brady and mortgaged the future. Luckily it doesnt look that bad and we have draft picks. 2022 is going to be a shiz show. Im looking for a big bounce back with a legit qb in 2023.
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:35 am
“He stunk in Carolina two years ago and was rotten in Denver last year.”
Did he really stink in Carolina, or did his offense, with one receiver, bad o-line & a part time and even more fragile RB, stink? I thought he was serviceable, there. Carolina shipped Teddy out after only one year and for Darnold, inexplicably? How much better was Darnold? Just the year before, Teddy won five in a row with a real team that had a real HC that knew how to really game plan. Don’t we have a coaching staff capable of those things (I don’t know if the snark button is on or not, really.)?
I really don’t know how he did in Denver, other than get injured again, does anyone here? Is their offense comparable to ours?
Teddy is not my first choice but, he would be inexpensive, experienced and more QB competition. He also knows the playbook of two division foes. If I were a betting man and the Bucs bring in a veteran QB, and how can they not, I have a hunch it’s Teddy.
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:43 am
No thanks
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:48 am
If it’s Brady or his backups from last season, I’ll watch the games. Anybody else and I’m canceling Sunday Ticket. Maybe Winston, but that’s it. I’ll find something else to do on Sunday afternoons.
February 23rd, 2022 at 7:56 am
Hodad … ‘We keep talking like this is a super bowl roster, but it’s not anymore. We won’t know what kind of roster we’re going to have yet this season. Brady left because he saw this coming.’
I like that last sentence especially Hodad, because that’s what I’ve thought all along (of course, we’ll never know). Some keep talking about the BA-Brady relationship souring, but Tom Brady has always been all about winning. I’m convinced that he knew there was no way for THIS coaching staff with THIS roster (given all the holes) to compete for a Super Bowl in 2022, even with him at the helm.
Bottom line to me is that Bucs must address TEAM-BUILDING in 2022 & 2023 to truly stay in the fight. We will probably struggle for a couple years, but thankfully (for us) our NFC South compatriots will be struggling also. We’ve all done a very good job of shooting ourselves in the foot. Big difference is that we have a SB championship to show for it.
February 23rd, 2022 at 8:07 am
NFL should raise cap 15 percent case inflation will ne that or more this year.
February 23rd, 2022 at 8:21 am
Sounds like the PFF tribe is throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks. Bridgewater to the Bucs doesn’t stick!
February 23rd, 2022 at 8:33 am
Bridgewater has always been known for having a weak arm. I would rather see Gabbert.
February 23rd, 2022 at 8:45 am
I’m with Joe. Would much rather have Gabbert than Bridgewater. He knows the offense and has way better tools than Bridgewater. Gabbert has elite tools, great arm, excellent mobility, and ideal size. Of all the QBs being pushed on us… I’d rather have Gabbert than giving up a ransom (and our future) for Cousins, Watson, or Carr. If Carson Wentz became available… maybe. Maybe Jacoby Brissett. There aren’t many good options, but Gabbert is at the top of the list. Absolutely not to Garrapolo.
February 23rd, 2022 at 8:54 am
I don’t think it matters depending on how many free agents leave the Bucs. The team could be left with too many holes if they can’t hold on to most of their best free agents. Losing Brady is possibly the tip of the iceberg. Lots of turn over losing some free agents and gaining new ones, retirements, slow recovery from injuries,, the net result could be a very different line up on both offense and defense and it could take quite awhile for the new lineups to jell. A big year of changes are possible. I personally will keep expectations low until the dust settles. Nothing but speculation for now.
February 23rd, 2022 at 9:07 am
Bring back Americas Quarterback!
February 23rd, 2022 at 9:29 am
More reason to tune out PFF. What more can be said about Bridgewater than what has already been covered? He’s a former first round pick who has been given numerous opportunities and shown he’s got what it takes…to be a backup QB in the NFL. Just like Gabbert, who at least knows the offense and probably would try to make a tackle after he tosses a pick. Bonus points for Gabbert likely realizing he’s a NFL backup and not making a stink when Trask inevitably gets put in to see what he can do.
February 23rd, 2022 at 9:40 am
TEddy will eventually become a nice backup for some team. That last injury he had was a hummer. I like him but I say No for us. Not us. A backup later on maybe.
February 23rd, 2022 at 10:11 am
and it takes a complete yr to learn arians offense (unless you’re the goat, can learn it in half year and given the freedom to “adapt” it)
what’s a new quarterback to do ?
go with trask/gabbert so we know what we have for 2023.
February 23rd, 2022 at 10:20 am
@ Defense Rules
You are 100% correct.
We will have @ $40-$60 million to fill 24 roster holes. 5 will be draft picks at a cost of $6.5 million.
Godwin, Davis, Whitehead, Cappa, Jenson – will not be cheap signings…
I believe it is a waste to bring in another mediocre QB to compete with our two other mediocre QBs… If they bring in Teddy B (or any other) to compete with Gabbert/Trask it is a waste of much needed salary cap dollars plus it tells me BA/BL still don’t have any faith in Kyle Trask.
Plus – on PFT this morning the first article is BA singing the praises of guess who?
You guessed it – Blaine Gabbert – “People hate o Blaine Gabbert but he has never started for a team this good” – this is a direct quote…
Gabbert/Trask is still my guess on the QB question this season.
February 23rd, 2022 at 10:26 am
I see him going to Houston. He’s just the kind of lukewarm breakfast Lovie loves to love.
February 23rd, 2022 at 10:36 am
Please no.
February 23rd, 2022 at 10:49 am
I agree with Joe, Gabbert is better than Captain Checkdown. If Bridgewater is the starter here next year would mean no playoffs & a sub 500 record.
February 23rd, 2022 at 10:55 am
yeah, very easily:
Gabbert > Bridgewater
February 23rd, 2022 at 11:38 am
The Gabbert love has me laughing, what exactly has he shown??
February 23rd, 2022 at 11:45 am
He’s like a Bridge over trouble water…
February 23rd, 2022 at 12:01 pm
If Bucs get a bridge QB to continue to develop Trask, that simply confirms our fears that Trask is actually Trash.
February 23rd, 2022 at 12:14 pm
We’re back to being the door mat of the league again.
February 23rd, 2022 at 1:19 pm
If BA wants to push the ball downfield, Teddy Bridgewater is not the answer.
February 23rd, 2022 at 1:25 pm
cannot even read the article if Bucs get bridgewater I am done I really like the Chargers anyway just need a JoeChargersfan.com website
February 23rd, 2022 at 1:27 pm
Bring back baby jesus Jameis!!!! lol
February 23rd, 2022 at 1:59 pm
Tom, if you are reading this (wishful thinking) please look what we are now reduced to!! Blaine Gabbert??? Please Tom take Giselle on a fantastic trip to Bora Bora or maybe the Tibetan Mountains and visit Shangrila but beg her for one more year we all need that good bye tour for closure and every city will roll out the red carpet for you to say goodbye!!!! Please come just watch mini camp and bring your helmet “just in case.”
February 23rd, 2022 at 2:42 pm
NO.
NO.
NO.
NO.
NO.
NO.
F@CK THAT.
February 23rd, 2022 at 3:26 pm
I’m not a fan of Trask starting as I don’t think he’s even close to ready yet, but I’d gladly take Trask over Bridgewater.
Can Bridgewater get the team to 8-9 vs Trask’s 3-14? Maybe. But would I want that? Hell no. Bridgewater would cause the team to push off a bunch of the cap hits we’re going to have to 2023, while not winning anything in 2022. So in 2023 you’ll again need a new QB and you’ll still be in cap hell and you’ll have a middling pick. No thanks.
Just tank with Trask, eat the cap hits this year, and lets worry about winning in 2023. Also, if I’m wrong, if Trask doesn’t stink, then great, you got a cleaned up cap AND a QB who doesn’t cost anything.
February 23rd, 2022 at 3:49 pm
ummm rod………..
tank with trask…go 5-12…get sh!tty draft pick at qb and pray he isn’t another jameis…
7 years later we are hearing whispers of another “lost decade”…
rod this is a dangerous game to play for a top pick as many don’t pan out…
just mull that over for a minute brother
February 23rd, 2022 at 3:51 pm
there might be too much prime tv time waiting for this team this season for a tank job…
the glazers seriously need to bring in a qb because we are still in a one year window here…
gary-pollo, pronounced jimmy gary-poiyo) would be the fit for half a dozen prime time appearances this year
February 23rd, 2022 at 4:23 pm
Hard pass!! The two QBs I really don’t want are Bridgewater and Cousins! 👎and 👎
February 23rd, 2022 at 5:29 pm
No No No !!
February 23rd, 2022 at 8:04 pm
Look what Teddy Bridgewater did for the
Jets, nothing !
