Mike Evans Seems To Think Chris Godwin Wants To Stay With Bucs

Is Chris Godwin’s heart fighting with his head?
We all know the most important Bucs free agent of the Bucs is Godwin, one of the better receivers in the game. Godwin has said how much he likes playing for the Bucs but at the same time, he has to think his decision through. If someone is willing to pay him major cash on the open market, Godwin won’t take that offer lightly.
In an interview Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans did with Matt Harmon of Yahoo!, Evans gave the vibe the Godwin wants to stay in Tampa provided the Bucs show him the money.
“I mean, that’s my guy, one of my favorite teammates of all time, blue-collar guy,” Evans said of Godwin. “He’s nasty. He gets down and dirty, runs after the catch. He never goes down, blocks his tail off. He’s been doing that since day one, though, since a rookie. He came in prepared. He knew the offense better than me when he was a rookie and it was my fourth year. So I mean, that just says, you know, the student of the game he is, great teammate.
“Me and him, we’re similar in the regard that, you know, we’re just blessed to be here and we know that. Talk about it all the time, and we’re not going to take this opportunity for granted. We’re going to try to maximize it. I’m sure he’s going to come back from the ACL injury even stronger because he’s a dog. And you know, I have no doubt about that. So hopefully me and him will be doing it big in Tampa for a long time to come.”
Joe knows Evans isn’t blowing smoke. From the time Godwin was a rookie, Evans was raving about him.
Here is what spooks Joe about Godwin maybe not returning: Joe cannot imagine that Godwin’s agent wants him to sign to play with an unproven quarterback. So unless the Bucs have a veteran quarterback in place by the time the free agency dinner bell rings on March 16, will Godwin return?
But which comes first, the chicken or the egg? Will Godwin sign if there’s no quarterback and will a top-shelf quarterback want to come without Godwin?

Luckily there is more loyalty in nfl then say the nba which is a joke these days
He think he stays if he gets paid what he is looking for
He knows mike gets a lot of doubles and godwin does everything
But yes hope we do something about qb
If we really go with gabbert that is a problem. Dude is not starting quality qb even though bucs leaders say he is

I distinctly remember when we didn’t have anyone worthy of being a number two receiver, much less a number one. Having two number ones is crazy and I trust Licht to figure it out.

There will probably be more than one significant free agent departure. My own Wild Bill wild prediction (far out speculation) is Brady negotiates a qb swap with the Dolphins in exchange for Tua. Brady gets a young up and coming team to be player/coach. Short commute from his new Miami area home. His wife says he’ll ya. He parks his yacht in the back yard. Wife loves the glamor of Miami. Miami becomes an instant contender in their division. Bucks get a young talented qb. Win/win for both teams. For whatever reasons, Brady went from a smiling, happy team leader/cheer leader in year one to a grim faced not happy player in year two. With this qb swap Brady gets a young talented team in his new neighborhood which makes his wife jumping for joy. And the Bucs get a young qb with lots of upside potential.

Once they live in Florida they want to stay usually. Tax burdens are high too in a lot of states.

It will be interesting to see how Godwin’s knee injury will effect his contract and salary. If he won’t be full go until week 6 or 7 then it should reduce his price a little.
We sure could use a discount this year on our most expensive free agent.

A top shelf QB will want to come to Tampa Godwin or no Godwin. Why? Money. That and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans is still here. Godwin would help sweeten the deal but is nowhere near a requirement. As for Godwin wanting to know who the QB is first, that may hold some weight.

or better yet, you spend 50 mil on your receiver room, not including tight ends – so gabbert can throw to them…

I believe far too much is being made out of who the Bucs’ QB will be……Players will sign if the deal is right…..
After all, this is home….they won a SB as a Buc….they love their teammates…..great coaching staff (some would argue not)….but the players seem to be happy at Tampa.
The QB will work itself out……with someone like Godwin & a 4 or 5 year contract…..this could be 3 different QBs.
Gronk is the only FA that probably really cares about the QB.

Also….Tampa drafted Godwin….and gave him the platform to display his value….BA moving him to slot surely didn’t hurt either……Godwin stays.

I love what Chris Godwin brings as a player both on and off the field. He is a great teammate and not just a great complete player on the field. That what separates next tier WRs. There is a TON of very good WRS. He is a GREAT one. He deserves to get paid. I think it will 100% come down to our new QB. It will take a seasoned QB to share the rock and maximize their talents. I’m curious to see which way we go with the QB position. That will set the tone for the next 2 or 3 years… our SB window before a complete tear down.

Unless a player is unhappy with his current team situation, the free agent usually gives the team that drafted him the benefit of the doubt to resign unless another team outbids them by millions of dollars.
There is a benefit to playing in Florida besides the weather. Florida residents do not have to pay any state income taxes. That isn’t the case with many other states with NFL teams.
I think if the Bucs make a competitive bid to Godwin, he will stay. The other veteran free agents, Fournette, Jensen, Cappa, kicker/punters, RoJo, Suh are all needed players but most of them will be sacrificed to pay Godwin.
They will need a number two WR to sub for Godwin while he rehabs.
