Jimmy Garoppolo May Be Maxed Out
February 7th, 2022Joe has been a big defender of the Bucs getting Jimmy GQ from the 49ers because the guy gets results.
Hate him for his ability to pick up p0rn stars, hate him for his mobility or being on the wrong end of his defense letting him down at the worst times, hate him for where he went to college but this man gets results. That’s all there is to it.
(Two years ago if you told the Jameis haters the Bucs had a chance to get a quarterback who has been to a Super Bowl and two NFC championship games in three years, they would have had snorted fire ants to get him. Be honest.)
The Bucs very likely need a veteran quarterback to maximize their stocked roster. That’s a big reason Joe has been a Jimmy GQ guy to replace Tom Brady. He’s a veteran and battle-tested in the playoffs.
However, something cooled Joe’s heels this morning on Jimmy GQ. Over the weekend, the Dolphins hired San Francisco offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as their new coach. And on “Good Morning Football,” seen on NFL Network today, closet Bucs fan and co-host Peter Schrager said he chatted with McDaniel and shared something that caught Joe’s attention.
“Every quarterback he’s ever worked with has had his best season of his career with him on staff,” Schrager said.
Joe can hear the brakes squealing right now. If Jimmy GQ is potentially maxed out, does that make him even desirable or just a cheaper buy?
Joe is hesitant of a quarterback who may be, just by his coaching, on the downside of his career unless, of course, the quarterback was the best who ever lived. Or, could the “Quarterback Whisperer,” Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians, keep Jimmy GQ productive and most important of all, a winning playoff quarterback?

My view is that the price is just too high – for all the QB names floating around. Best spend that “cash” on the rest of the roster.
February 7th, 2022 at 11:55 am
Man, this QB speculation is getting old already.
February 7th, 2022 at 11:57 am
I get the fear of the unknown, but unless we are talking about Rodgers, Wilson, or Watson the Bucs should go with Trask. If the team feels like he is getting the offense then why not?
February 7th, 2022 at 11:58 am
Ridiculously cherry picked and misleading but alright. By this logic Mark “Butt Fumble” Sanchez was a great QB for “leading” the Jets to two straight AFC Championships, but there was no cherry picking campaign for him in 2014 was there? You know why? Because he was not a good QB.
Fact is Jimmy G is a good but injury prone game manager AT BEST. If he was cheap maybe it would reasonable to go after him…maybe. But he’s not cheap. He would cost a king’s ransom in terms of the Bucs cap space AND draft picks. For a guy who has been carried his whole career and failed his team when they needed HIM to be the leader and not the defense or Deebo Samuel. It’s just not worth it.

I heard BA called Drew Bledsoe yesterday but he said no!
February 7th, 2022 at 12:00 pm
It’s going to continue until the Bucs have a quarterback (or name a quarterback).
If you expect Joe to ignore the biggest story of the offseason dealing with the team’s most important position, well, Joe didn’t get to be the biggest Bucs-centric website out there by ignoring the biggest stories, sorry.
Joe is confident there are lesser sites on the interwebs all jacked up by debating if Codey McElroy will make the 53-man roster in September.
February 7th, 2022 at 12:05 pm
The price is too high for a QB who has only had one full season. He is fragile and when he gets hurt it is a half a season recovery.
Trask would still have to play during that, so save the money and use it elsewhere
February 7th, 2022 at 12:23 pm
Let’s be very clear. Jimmy G was carried through the playoffs by an elite defense both times. It’s hilarious to say that the defense let him down. They gave up like 15 points per game in the playoffs and that is letting him down? If you are looking for results only then why are you not talking about trading for Jared Goff? He went to a super bowl too and is a “winner” when carried by the team around him.

Call me crazy but after watching Russ light up the accuracy challenge. I want him as my QB. Imagine a having a mobile QB with that accuracy and playing behind That O Line.

Can’t throw ball deep
Waste
Trade 1st and 3rd throw a defensive player for Wilson

Agree with Rotten – I think Russell Wilson is the best of that bunch of QBs.

Sasquatch doesn’t expect Joe to do anything other than what Joe does. It’s going to continue to be old because, until there’s meat on the bone of an actual QB story, it’s just rampant speculation… something Joe frequently criticizes when it comes to mock drafts.
At least it’s better than the DailyManziel in 2014. Hopefully there isn’t some shrimpy overrated college QB for Joe to fetishize this year.
February 7th, 2022 at 12:35 pm
I think continuing to call BA a qb whisperer is out dated. He MAY have been one, but those days ended as quickly as they started when almost all of his QB’s retired because his offensive style is getting them killed.
February 7th, 2022 at 12:43 pm
JG is a solid game manager although I do believe both Belichick and Shanahan’s coaching grossly minimized his weaknesses.
February 7th, 2022 at 12:52 pm
Joe … ‘The Bucs very likely need a veteran quarterback to maximize their stocked roster.’
Wow, here I thought it was Big Storm beer you were drinking, and now I realize you’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid all along Joe. Since when do the Bucs have a ‘stocked roster’? We’ve got 25 unsigned FAs from last season’s team right now, and 10 of those were starters. Several others were key rotational guys (and others were key subs when starters went down for some lengthy periods). We’ve got limited salary CAP left to fill all those holes, but the conclusion is that we’ve got a ‘stocked roster’? Sure, let’s go with that.
February 7th, 2022 at 12:52 pm
Jimmy G is a game manager who crumbles in big situations. Why anyone would want that, I have no idea. It’s like wanting Joe Flacco or Trent Dilfer, saying they just win…
February 7th, 2022 at 1:12 pm
He is terrible and would cost to much if they were going to get a decent quarterback this ain’t the year sacrifice would be too much just continue to stack the roster for 2023 and either roll with Trask or trade up in a better QB class to get the franchise QB.
February 7th, 2022 at 1:26 pm
Lets make a deal with Rodgers. Trade some draft picks and cut some dead weights both in offense and defense. If Rodger’s is just impossible, lets try Wilson. I know it’s easier said than done, but I believe in Jason Licht to make this deal.
February 7th, 2022 at 1:28 pm
I view Jimmy G as a step up for a team like the Panthers, who would be ecstatic to win 10 or 11 games. The Bucs have higher aspirations, and I don’t think he can deliver them
February 7th, 2022 at 1:31 pm
This is depressing.
February 7th, 2022 at 1:34 pm
Without skill players, and especially without a defense it doesn’t matter who plays QB.
There is only one that could overcome that and we blew it …

If Bruce and Byron can get Brady to play better in 2020 than he did with the Pats in 2019, whose to say Jimmy can’t improve?

remember tank for tua??? lol love the nfl…
February 7th, 2022 at 2:07 pm
Did anyone see the Rams game JG brought the 49ers back from? Peaked. I think he’s yet to reach his full potential. Check his stat for hitting receives on the run, I think it’s best in the league. But much of what he’s developed in SF was because of the system. Give him more options and he’ll do more. There’s a reason Little and Samuel, etc. love him – and a reason he’s stacked up wins. Bring that to TB, we’re ready for it right now!
February 7th, 2022 at 2:14 pm
Jimmy G is a replacement level QB. The guy gets results? Lol that’s a laugh. He is not the reason the Niners went to the Super Bowl and another NFC championship. He’s the reason the Niners LOST a Super Bowl and didn’t make it back this year. He is the bottleneck on a very talented and well-coached team. If Stafford and Jimmy switched teams, the Niners would be in the Super Bowl and the Rams would not have made it past the first round if to the playoffs at all. Absolutely ridiculous.

I’ll admit it – anybody but Jameis. Just sign Gabbert on the cheap and let him and Trask duke it out.
February 7th, 2022 at 2:55 pm
I’m agreeing that the cap value of Jimmy G is just too high. I’d love to keep our key pieces and add to it. Secondary needs help, tight ends, ? a couple wr’s, olb, defensive tackles, a better back up to the ilb’s. We’ve got a ton of need other than the QB. I can’t wait to see what they do.
February 7th, 2022 at 3:06 pm
Let Trask play and run the ball. No Bizkit Risk. Use run to sett up pass. Draft and hire some BEEF. Get rid of the Floating Butterfly Tyron.
February 7th, 2022 at 3:08 pm
Jimmy is more concerned with making money, than winning. He had a chance to go back to the Patriots. The compensation had been worked out, Jimmy refused to take a five million dollar pay cut, and chose to stay with a team that didn’t really want him. If lance was a more developed QB, Jimmy would’ve been cut or traded. Ben can’t think of a worse place for Jimmy to end up. If Arians is reinstalling his offense, it’s a horrid fit. Jimmy isn’t exactly careful with the football. Bringing him into an offense that’s based on risky throws, and low percentage passing, couldn’t be more problematic. Now if the bucs have smartened up, and continue to run the Brady/New England offense, it could work. Ben stresses could

@ Bqen Green. Your post reads like a Seinfield episode, “Jimmy likes Elaine” Well done sir!
February 7th, 2022 at 3:30 pm
I’m ready to show the world what we have with Kile Trask! He would be a first round pick this year had he not come out last year. I believe there is reason to feel good about him stepping in and protecting the future of the franchise from throwing our resources away on an expensive short term “answer”! Go BUCS!

Ben hated Jerry Seinfeld Jaymiss, and his stupid, unfunny show. Without Johnny Carson’s push, Seinfeld would still be doing dinner theater in the Midwest. Ben knows people loved the show. Just goes to show how stupid america is

JOE
He is maxed out. They resort to trickery, running, defense. He is barely average. They win despite him. Brady‘s arm is twice as strong and Brady‘s arm is not one of the strongest. Jimmy G throws a couple of balls every single game that could be returned for a touchdown it seems. Somehow he gets away with it a lot of times. Watch all the out patterns he threw against the Rams -my god there could’ve been 4 returned.
I get that he’s better than most free agents out there but when you have to go against teams in the playoffs that are led by Wilson, Prescott, Stafford, Murray, Rodgers, Allen, Mahomes, Herbert, Burrows, and Mac Jones…
Are you taking Jimmy G over any of them? I’m not. The
rest of the team better be the best in the league not just very very good like they are now.
February 7th, 2022 at 6:54 pm
David is correct. Ben would take Mac Jones ten outta ten before Jimmy. He’s way too careless with the ball, and is a walking injury bug. Ben understands y’all want a seasoned QB, but y’all are barking up the wrong tree. Make a play, blow Seattle out of the water. The current incarnation of the bucs has a two to three year window. Maximize that. After all what did picking in the top ten for twenty years get y’all
February 7th, 2022 at 9:03 pm
Jittery G is maxed out. Niners know it. Patriots knew it. What you saw is what there is. No additional upside.
February 7th, 2022 at 9:23 pm
BQEN
Good point about wanting a seasoned vet. There are a lot of season vets out there that are never ever ever going to win a big game.
February 7th, 2022 at 11:40 pm
Jimmy looks fine most of the game then an unfortunate turnover.
Russel Wilson or Aaron Rodgers should (Hopefully) be in the mix.
