Believers Needed
February 2nd, 2022It’s common knowledge that Tom Brady raised the games of those around him.
A big part of that had to do with confidence, a belief and trust in Brady that translated to more focused and intense play on the field.
It’s not witchcraft or a figment of anyone’s imagination. With Brady in command, the 10 other guys on his side of the ball often find a higher plane on which to play.
Official Buccaneers Radio Network game analyst Dave Moore spoke about this recently and noted that perhaps the most important trait of the guy who replaces Brady will be the team’s belief in him when trailing in games.
In crunch time, the Bucs can’t have a hear-we-go-again loser mentality reminiscent of the Jameis Winston era.
“The good news is everybody that is on the roster now that would remain understands, you know, making plays in key situations and being able to handle the pressure and all that part of it,” Moore said. “It’s just the belief in who’s running the offense that’s really what’s going to determine their ability to come back in those types games and be able to make the plays when they need to make them.”
Can Kyle Trask be that leader? Nobody knows.
Is there a realistically available veteran QB out there who could match the trust the Bucs had in Brady? Doubtful.
Regardless, the Bucs life must go on and Joe trusts Bucco Bruce Arians and general manager Jason Licht to find a trustworthy quarterback who protects the football and can lead men.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:07 pm
Man Remember during Joe’s justification of Jameis he wrote articles about how leadership of grown professional men was overrated.
This site in 2019-2020 was a trip.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:13 pm
For that reason alone they can never even think about bringing Winston back here because the here we go again mentality would be instant as soon as a near pick is thrown.

tampabuscsbro, there are two “Joes” that write on here. There’s reasonable Joe and unreasonable Joe. Unreasonable Joe thought Jay-Miss was a special talent, a franchise QB, and the Bucs failed him. Reasonable Joe knew the team had to move on from an obvious draft bust.
Reasonable Joe wrote this article.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:18 pm
If Kyle Trask was in the draft this year he’d be the first QB off the board
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:21 pm
@ Pewter Power – did you miss Joes article earlier today about the Bucs bracing for Tom’s retirement… Licht’s quote revealed they knew they could not win with Jameis..
“We were in this situation a couple of years ago where Bruce [Arians] and I both said we’ll have to look behind door No. 2,”
When time for Winston to be resigned, they were saying ‘we’ll HAVE to look behind door No. 2’… they were moving on before Brady was available!
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:24 pm
Carr or Wilson would be great options to trade for if they are available and the Bucs are serious about competing for the Sb still. I have a funny feeling that the Titans may be ready to let go of Tannehill too, but that dude is not the answer in Tampa and neither is Garrapalo. Unless the Bucs are going to transition to a run 1st team and led by the Defense
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:24 pm
The question is will they believe in the coaches. They all know the true AB story and if it does come out Brady left because of lack of faith in the coaching staff then BA and his cronies may lose the locker room, if Bowles didn’t secure that already.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:31 pm
Joe – How plausible is would it be to attain Russell Wilson?
I recall him requesting some “say-so” on decisions in Seattle that didn’t go in this favor. Brady is obviously Brady and had a lot of “pull” as a Buc. Could Mr. Wilson be enticed by that?
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:33 pm
Brady left them with all the tools they need to carry on !
General Patton bitch slap to Buc Nation from the GBoyz on down!
This hand wringing and whimpering is repulsive and contagious.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:33 pm
Face facts it will never be what it was with Brady, not even close but lets put that aside and focus on what we can do now this year, we can make this powerful defense we had great again
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:34 pm
Thanks, Todd! Way to wreck the Bucs future with the goat in 42 seconds.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:36 pm
With what the Bucs would have to spend on a veteran QB, they would lose the availability of signing some of their own FAs like Godwin, Fournette, Jensen and Whitehead. If they roll with Trask, he may not have the benefit of those players. Tough spot but I would like to give Trask a chance to prove himself over signing the likes of Bridgewater, JW, Minshew, Trubinsky, Wilson and maybe even Garapolo.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:43 pm
Deshaun Watson. Absolutely can bring a team back, exudes and instills confidence in winning games with teammates.
Grow up gang, bout off the field.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:45 pm
They also could not win with BA’s System. That is why they had to change it for Brady. No Risk It No Biscuit does not and will not work. It is only good for interceptions.
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:47 pm
Of course maybe unless you are playing the Bucs secondary!!
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:47 pm
Watson’s off the field drama aside, even before all that he pouted and threw a tantrum about the hiring of his coaches and refused to play for the team… He is no better than Antonio Brown or wose!
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:51 pm
it will only take a couple of losses to loose the left over confidence/desire to excell imparted by Brady .. We’ll start with the inevitable penalties..
It took Brady 6 or 7 games in ’20 to get comfortable with bucci & BL’s system–how long will it take for any QB we’re likely to get ? or we play Trask .
with next season’s schedule -we’ll be lucky to win 8 games
February 2nd, 2022 at 4:52 pm
After an owner uses the phrase “we can’t have inmates running the prison” and all that statement implies, let’s see what kinda guy little Tye might be..
#naive
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:08 pm
Why should I believe in Bucco Bruce last gasp road show? Is this gonna be The Bucco Dynasty coach staff for years with him off to retirement pond in Ga. and BL taking over? Awwww. I just do not like it. One and done Ariens? 8-9 retirement time? Nahhhh.
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:14 pm
A quarterback has to earn the trust of his players…….and in order to do that, he has to play….
Give Trask a chance to fail….maybe he wont.
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:15 pm
“hear-we-go-again”?
*here
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:30 pm
Speak on it Joe. These people with no faith didn’t know this was going to happen some time soon? Terrible. JL a great GM. Panthers may be the top dog in the NFC South. Bengals went 4-11 last year. Don’t tell me you know.
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:33 pm
Say Joe..I believe. I believe if our Bucs do not get an experienced QB who can read coverages and get the ball down the field to our great receivers? we are gonna be in a world of kimchee and back in the cellar. And we’d better get a pass rush. Thats what I believe.
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:39 pm
If we could get Carr I’d be happy.
I also don’t have a problem seeing what Trask can do.
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:47 pm
Reality check; Bucs are fortunate to have Trask available. Right now he’s the ONLY QB we have on our roster. And what’s really cool … he’s not costing us an arm & a leg (Trask’s 4-year contract is for only $5.5 mil TOTAL). So this year he’ll be making slightly less than $1 mil; then $1.2 mil in 2023 & $1.4 mil in 2024.
Compare that to Russell Wilson’s $37 mil CAP hit this year. Or to Garappolo’s $26.9 mil CAP hit this year. Or to Watson’s whopping $40.4 mil CAP hit this year. Oh I forgot, some want to trade for Rodgers; his CAP hit this year is $46.7 mil. Surely we could get Cousins cheap; his CAP hit this year is only $45.0 mil.
The math isn’t that complicated. Bucs right now rank #19 in the NFL with $7.7 mil of CAP space left, based on having only 46 players under contract … with 21 of those making LESS than $1 mil each. And of those 21, more than likely less than half will make the 53-man roster. We’ve got 26 free agents, and at least 23 of those played a decent number of snaps last year.
IOW we’ve got a LOT of contracts to do & not all that much money to do them with. I’m convinced that we’ll break free quite a bit more CAP space before all is said & done, BUT … you can buy a LOT of groceries for the difference between a $1 mil QB and a $45 mil QB.
The BIG question is ‘Can that $1 mil QB get the job done?’ Me thinks we’ll never know unless we give him a fair shot with the 1st team. He’s got a decent pedigree & has had a year to improve things like his mechanics, etc. Give him a shot; IF it works out, we’re golden. IF it doesn’t, at least we’ll know AND in the process we’ll be able to upgrade several other critical parts of our TEAM with the salary CAP saved. It’s worth the gamble.
February 2nd, 2022 at 5:51 pm
Must have on offense regardless of the QB – Godwin, Jensen or Cappa (prefer both, but may be limited by $), Fournette and a healthy Wirf
Like to have: Gronk (or high draft pick TE), Bernard, other WRs step up more regularly
Other: Veteran RB, veteran TE both at a low price for 1-2 years
February 2nd, 2022 at 6:34 pm
@tampabuscsbro oh you got him now!!!
February 2nd, 2022 at 6:42 pm
Look at those stupid numbers DR posted for the QB’s and Brady came in at $50 mm for 2 seasons. Kraft & Patriots organization is pissed Brady didn’t mention Patriots or Patriot fans in his retirement IG. Maybe Kraft shouldn’t of let Belichick offer him a one year $14mm contract.
Gunnin, your insane, Watson is a spoiled criminal. If BA was against AB, you think he’d go for Watson?? Why not bring Ray Rice back as a RB? Are we to believe one man over 20+ victims?
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:00 pm
To the stunted mutant, at 6:42 bereft of intelligence. STOP TALKING. I breached your nonsense and you yesterday, and you’re still the nonsensical…thing. Noise, noise.
And DR…with the excessive long diatribe at 5:47…do your homework. Brush up. Looking at a silly site doesn’t make you a GM on “cap hits”. 🙂 Educate yourself…wait for it, on…that a player’s “cap hit”, is to the CURRENT team he is signed to, in the exact structure of the CURRENT contract with THAT team.
NOT…and I repeat NOT, the acquiring team. Study, Danielson. We would be the acquiring team, for Watson. Switch the “trade” tab on OvertheCap….to see what Houston eats, at a minimum, there. Then negotiations, between GM’ s both in New England prior simultaneously overlapping, as to what part of salary is further kept there, for the draft picks compensation.
Quiet, kids. Study. Shhh.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:10 pm
Don’t want whining Rodgers, Overpaid Wilson and Deshaun ” will he ever play again ” Watson. Too much money and they are all head cases in one way or another. Either stick with Trask or bring in a bridge QB Jimmy G. or someone else.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:11 pm
Gunnin, so you would like to mute me because I don’t support your plea to replace the poster boy of professionalism with the $46mm dollar hold out accused of sexual harassment by 20+ females? That’s actually a insult to Brady. I have a daughter, apparently you don’t.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:31 pm
I’m down with signing trubisky. Before you laugh go look at his stats on the worst offensive team in the league. Sign him to a 4 year 7-8 million a year deal.cause if he balls out he we have 3 years of a very very an team friendly contract. If he doesn’t work out the final years are voidable and it is no harm no foul. But seriously go google his stats with bears. He was above average and had no weapons on the worst offense in the league and still got them to the playoffs two years. He is a Josh allen clone who actually got to sit and learn for a year behind his clone. I really would be happy if we sign him. We could then sign back most of our free agents and make a splash signing or so. And then draft best available hopefully a first round wide receiver. We need some juice at that position. Then go d line cornerback. And get the best free agent kicker and punter.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:33 pm
Trubisky will be Bucs starter next year if he doesn’t succeed you see what we have in trask. We will not get another big name quarterback. They are ego driven no one will want to follow Tom Brady and be compared to him for the whole season.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:46 pm
Jimmy G is universally loved and respected by his team mates, it’s management that isn’t sure about him.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:17 pm
Trask will get that leadership ability. He does not have it now, no QB in their first game has it, great QB or not.
Has anyone asked any players how they feel about Trask, they should know. Until then, or until he fails, I will be on Trask’s side in this.
I was on the JW bandwagon for two years and started to climb back in season five, but the wheels came off that wagon.
Not another Jameis chance, Garropolo is too fragile, and Bridgewater is a dink and dunk guy. Anyone else is champagne on a beer budget. The Bucs can’t even afford to pay guys that are already on the team, much less the $40 million dollar man.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:33 pm
@DefenseRules … Exactly!
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:59 pm
As always agree with D.R.
I might take it even farther. Give Trask a chance but don’t put the pressure on him.
Keep the outstanding OL together and then sign Playoff Lenny and save ROJO’s money now that Vaughn has shown he can play and again should be a bargain.
Yeah I realize Fournette might be a stretch but we should at least kick the tires.
So then we go like the Colts and Titans and protect the QB by working hard on a solid running game and utilizing our possession receivers…ME13 and CG14 made scatter brained and scatter armed Jameis look good they can do the same for Trask who more than likely will make better decisions with the ball..especially if we don’t need him to win the games but simply keep from losing them…ala Fameis Jameis.
And there is the draft…most mocks have us picking two defensive players…A&M’s DL Leal and Miss State DB Emerson.
I think if we can put it all together we can still make the playoffs and then see what happens…perhaps not a SB but maybe one the year after.
February 2nd, 2022 at 11:43 pm
Derek Carr had 14 INTs and 13 fumbles last season, playing in a very safe west coast offense. Put Carr in this Bucs offense, tell him to force the ball downfield, he’s going to throw at least 20 INTs, then, because he’s afraid to throw the ball, he’s going to hold it too long and lead to a bunch of strip sacks.
I’d much rather have Winston, who is a lot more productive, and isn’t afraid to make plays. Yeah, he will throw an INT on the last play of the game trying to make a play, while Carr, I’ve seen it with my own eyes, will literally throw the ball out of bounds so he doesn’t mess up his stat sheet.
Winston, pre-Arians, threw on average 14 INTs a season, same as Carr last year. Put Carr in this offense, you’re getting the turnovers with no upside.
February 2nd, 2022 at 11:52 pm
I believe!
I believe Brady brought the team back against the Rams, and in 42 seconds Todd’s Bowels ruined the Buccaneers franchise. Glad he was interviewing for jobs during the week leading up to the game, brilliant to blitz the Rams to a 21 point lead, and what a genius to leave Cooper Kupp uncovered, or against a falling down SMB who was having a terrible game before.
Genius. Amazing he hasn’t gotten a head coaching job yet. (sarcasm)
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:31 am
I’ve posted it before but Deshaun Watson might be the most talented quarterback they could get and because of all the stuff going on with him it might be a reasonable rate.
I really don’t know all the stuff going on with him, I don’t know if he’s going to be suspended, I don’t know if it’s jail time, I don’t know what the cap number is … So I really have not done the research on it but based purely on quarterback play … it would be awesome
February 3rd, 2022 at 7:34 am
Do you really think after Watson’s history and current situation he can get a licker room to believe in him. One word TRUST, ain’t gonna happen. If I were Licht, I wouldn’t trust him, one bad season and he takes his ball and goes home. Ahole.
