Mike Evans Lethal In Single Coverage
February 3rd, 2022Joe knew Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans was good. Joe didn’t know he was this good.
Yeah, Joe thinks Evans is on a path to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. We know Evans is a touchdown machine and has been the most consistent wide receiver to begin a career in NFL history.
Evans, quite simply, is money.
Joe didn’t think NFL defenses were silly enough to leave Mike Evans in single coverage. Joe was wrong.
In the days after Championship Sunday, the PFF tribe decided to calculate the number of touchdowns receivers had this year (including the playoffs) facing single coverage. Guess who leads the league in roasted single-coverage defenders for scores? Yep, that would be Evans.
And Evans didn’t even play last Sunday.
Please keep it up, NFL defenses. Please continue to play silly single coverage on Evans. With no more Tom Brady, the Bucs will need all the help they can get this fall.

Yep, he is too fast, too strong, too tall and too crafty to be covered by one guy.

The first couple of years he had in Tampa. For as good as a WR he is, he is an even better person. He matured from year one to year two well and then in year three he grew in major ways. He went from throwing fits and getting ejected to learning to keep his cool and elevating his game. I wish the media would talk more about his growth. Love Mike and the example he sets.

Best offensive skill player in franchise history, period..

He is so over looked all he does it score tds and get yards. Red zone he can’t be covered. Random question how come Winston couldn’t throw the fade in the red zone?

Not only is he lethal in one on one coverage, but when he draws the double team, he makes his teammates better as well. He also does this whether his QB is the Goat, a high draft pick, or some journeyman on his 7th team, AND he is also in his prime.

Mike Evan’s contract makes him the highest paid Buc next season at @ $20.6 million.
$16 m in salary and $6.6 m prorated bonus payment.
I wonder if the JL/BA will attempt to restructure his deal once again.
Lowering his salary to @ $6 mil and pushing more guaranteed money into 2023 and beyond would allow us to spend another $10 mil this season on needed free agent signings.
Only problem is he is going on 29 and we already owe him guaranteed money until 2025.

Well, with our new QB, especially if it’s a first year starter, teams will be able to leave him one on one more often. Brady certainly knew how to take advantage of one-on-ones better than most.

He dominated the best corner in the league. That should tell you plenty.

mike just gets more cerebral in his approach to the game as he gets older…
i think him having played with tom has even awoken this more…
i think he’s genuinely impressed with tom’s approach to putting in work…
and yes in one on one coverage, he’s getting so darn crafty out there…his use of hands, body and mind has elevated some, this past season in particular…
he’s kind of underrated throughout the league…

I actually saw someone suggest we trade him. Insane.

People sometimes forget how lucky we are to have guys like Evans and Godwin together on this team. Bother are top receivers and unselfish, team-first guys. The only regret I have about the 2 years with Brady is that he wasn’t able to feed Evans more.

My brother told me once
“Evans made Manziel look good”
Bucs need to take Evans.
Time told us all.
MIke is HOF in my book.

He played the role he had to w Brady considering how the offense was built he took a slightly lesser role. He’s the ultimate team guy. But don’t get it twisted this guy is a killer. I’d take him one on one against any one cb anytime. Mike will come out on top almost every time.
