Jimmy Garoppolo Seems To Think He May Be Done In San Francisco

February 1st, 2022

Available?

A guy that got the 49ers to two NFC title games in three years may not be good enough for John Lynch and San Francisco.

Quarterback Jimmy GQ, pride of the Princeton of the Midwest, Eastern Illinois University, may be looking for a new home this fall. And since Tom Brady doesn’t know what he’s going to do with his life, Joe doesn’t find it out of hand to wonder what the Bucs will do for a quarterback.

After San Francisco choked in the NFC title game Sunday, Jimmy GQ admitted he doesn’t know what the future may hold.

“We’ll see what happens in these next couple days, weeks, whatever, but I love this team,” Jimmy GQ said after the loss to the Rams, by way of Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports.

So why would San Francisco and Lynch unload a guy that got them to a Super Bowl three years ago and came minutes away from a second trip on Sunday? Because Lynch drafted a quarterback in the first round in April. Teams with that much invested in a guy usually aren’t going to let him rot on the bench.

Lynch’s mistake could be the Bucs’ reward if Brady moves on, which Joe would lay money on happening.

Don’t like Jimmy GQ? All he does is win. And he’s a helluva lot better than the slop people pushing on Joe, like Teddy Bridgewater or worse, Gardner Minshew. Joe is getting harassed on Twitter. Please stop with this Minshew nonsense!

Jimmy GQ likely would have to be acquired through a trade. He has one season remaining on his contract, worth about $26 million.

I know for a fact from a equipment staffer that Brady has cleared out his personal belongings from his locker. He has left just team issued gear in it for appearances. This longtime staffer said he took his all his favorite items that he likes.

  2. Caleb Says:

San Francisco won in spite of Gorappolo not because of him. Him replacing Brady here would be a complete disaster. The Bruce Arians scheme relies on top qb play, does not try to hide them.

  3. Beeej Says:

I really can’t think of a better option than Jimmy G. Rodgers? One season, mebbe 2, at a gazillion dollars, then he’s done

  4. zzbucs Says:

I would like Carr or Cousins, seems very difficult both…..If not, I am all in with Trask….Doesn´t make any sense nor Rodgers nor Wilson beacuase of cap situation….The only thinng that I pray is no JW……

  5. Hodad Says:

He didn’t win Sunday Joe. When the game was on the line, he tossed an under hand pick. He’s been with two winning teams, that’s why he’s won. The 49ers won in spite of him, not because of him. He’s also injury prone. There’s no upside to Jimmy G.. I’d rather just roll with Trask to at least see if he can be a long term solution. I know, and you should know Jimmy G. is not that.

  6. D-Rome Says:

After all these years I *still* don’t know what to think of Jimmy G. There are throws he makes that has me thinking he’s an excellent QB. There are missed throws he has that make me scratch my head wondering how he could make such a bad throw. I think in the 49ers opening drive he missed a wide open Kittle in the first quarter when he had plenty of protection.

I think Trey Lance will be a bust like Hurts and Fields. Lance ran more in the few games he played than Jimmy G ran all season. Run first QBs never last in the NFL.

  7. Ash Says:

Yup would rather roll with Trask than jimmy g lol. Jimmy is terrible they drafted a QB because they had Jimmy don’t get it twisted he isn’t good.

  8. D-Rome Says:

    He didn’t win Sunday Joe.

The 49ers didn’t win. I seem to remember that the 49ers were up in that game when Tartt dropped that INT which would have guaranteed the victory.

  9. Killian Says:

You could do a lot worse than The Mustache. He’s accurate and doesn’t turn the ball over. Plus he could be had cheap. Not saying I’d rather start Minnshew over seeing what we had in Trask, but we’ve seen Jimmy G perform. He’s not equipped to handle the Arians Air Raid offense. Unless Arians was willing to completely revamp the offense, no to Jimmy G.

  10. Teflon Don Says:

Trash! The JOE’s gotta stop shooting low at the QB position.. (carr/garrapolo) This guy can’t get the job done! Cant go from the great one to this bum. Sorry aim higher!

  11. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

I think Jimmy G or Bridgewater would be okay if we can keep a strong line and weapons around him. If we can do that, maybe Gabbert or Trask could be the answer. I’d love to know how much Gabbert and Trask learned watching Brady the last 1-2 years. I think Minshew is garbage, please don’t come to Tampa. And JW isn’t coming back to where he failed so miserably, especially if Arians is here. There’s bad blood on both sides.

  12. Red86 Says:

We should consider Rodgers, Watson (assuming he changed off the field), and Carr. Or just stick with Trask.

Watson would be a tough sell, but he was good on the field when he had talented wideouts help. Personally, he’s better than Dak Prescott. The Texans are a mess of a franchise like the Browns of recent years.

  13. Kgh4life Says:

Garoppolo is a game manager at best. When you have a head coach/coordinator like Shanahan, he makes things easier for the QB, unlike BA’s system which is QB driven.

  14. STL-BucsFan Says:

No thanks, I’d rather see what we have in Trask. with a healthy DEF we could win the division with that alone. Use the $$ and Picks elsewhere LET’S F’N GO BOY’S!!!

  15. alaskabuc Says:

9ers win despite having Garoppolo, not because of him. Back foot throws, over throws, under throws, happy feet. There is a reason Lynch had decided this summer there would be no future in this. I would take Minshew or Bridgewater over JG, and they are both hot garbage themselves. Either try and swing a deal for Carr or Wilson or just hand the keys over to Kyle and lets see what the kid is made of. Hell, even take a flyer on a QB in the draft to compete with Trask and see if we strike gold on one or the other.

  16. Buc it. It’s over Says:

Jimmy G isn’t the guy. Why would we go all in on a middle of the road QB? Fitzmagic gives you the same chance of winning as this guy. He had the ball with 1:30 left and couldn’t get it done. Heck he didn’t get a 1st down.

  17. Killian Says:

Did Brady just retire on Twitter?

  18. David Says:

Carr just got ahead coach and is not being traded

What is the difference with trade potential and cap hits between Russell Wilson and Jimmy G? I would prefer Russell Wilson by far.

No thank you to Aaron Rodgers.

  19. Iron-Wombat Says:

    yeah Brady is done.

  20. Coburn Says:

Jimmy g just seems very streaky. Sometimes he makes decent plays, other times he doesn’t see a guy who is open or throws a bad pass

  21. Coburn Says:

And they seem to come in bunches

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Brady announced retirement…..

  23. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Brady just made the announcement. Thank you Tom!!!

  24. BuccoBDub Says:

    😭😭😭

  25. Tye Says:

I can’t say I would hate Jimmy G as a Bucs QB giving Trask more time, Plus he is only 30 so not likely to retire on us in the next few years…

Of the scenarios I’ve heard, Derek Carr (David retired 10 years ago) would be the most exciting for the Bucs present and future… Jimmy G is a close 2nd… then Dalton…

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bowles and BA killed a legend.

  27. Gunnin4Ya Says:

    Deshaun Watson. Go get him.

  28. Mike C Says:

    Tanks Tom

  29. Pruritus Ani Says:

Looks like the GOAT is really hanging it up for good. 🙁

  30. Smashsquatch Says:

The 🐐 is a class act. Thanks for two years of pure bliss.

  31. alaskabuc Says:

@Listnfrmafar- yeah, you nailed it. Time for grandpa to ride his fat @ss back to Georgia on his scooter.

  32. YoungBucs Says:

Thx Tom best football we’ve seen here.

  33. Mtbucsfan Says:

No nope not happening. I’m still asleep! This is a nightmare! Just when the NFC was about to be easy. Rodgers goes to Denver no Sean Payton. The NFC south will now be worse then the east…

  34. zzbucs Says:

    devastating news!!!!

  35. Oneilbuc Says:

Time for BA to go now because he ain’t changing his no risk it no biscuit offense for no one but Brady. The threat at running the ball is over now !!

  36. Stevie D Says:

Jimmy G is a disaster. The 49ers consistently win in spite of him not because of him. They have the sharpest coaches and schemes in the NFL. Bruce Arians needs a QB who can carry the team and offense. Would honestly rather have Carson Wentz or Kirk Cousins

  37. Jeff Says:

No! Not Jimmy. He’s terrible. He would crumble in Arians offense

  38. Colin in Canada Says:

Jimmy G to the raiders and Carr to the Bucs?

  39. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Started typing my opinion on how to treat the off-season and what the priorities are but the more I thought about it the more I realized how many holes we have with players becoming FA or retiring.

QB, RB, TE, D-LINE, DB, O-LINE (if we can’t keep Jensen), WR (if we can’t keep Godwin) are all positions that need some serious attention. Front office has their work cut out for them for damn sure. Going back to the mantra #itsabucslife lol. What a coincidence we bring back the creamsicle jerseys next year lol!

  40. Ed Says:

Of course like most of us here, we were rooting for the Niners to knock out the Rams, our nemesis. Jimmy G did nothing to help them win that game. Deebo Samuel was a titan out there.

Jimmy looked confused by the defensive looks and held on to the ball way too long. His indecisiveness is the complete opposite of Brady. The Bucs and any team that has pocket passers need QBs that have fast releases, can process their reads quickly and are accurate. Jimmy G appeared to be very slow with his delivery and Stafford was in the Kupp zone.

With all of this, the Niners still could have won that game if their defensive back doesn’t hold on to the easiest interception that Stafford possibly could have thrown. No thanks, Jimmy, I’d rather go with a younger QB that doesn’t have his bad fundamentals.

  41. Swampbuc Says:

All that loser does is gag. His defense bails him out until they can’t. He’s awful. Glad JL knows it.

  42. tampabayallday Says:

    Trask over jimmy pornstar G

  43. Bobby M. Says:

Dont be shocked if 49ers release/trade Jimmy G……then Brady comes out of retirement to make another run out west once the Bucs have made contingency plans and used up all the cap space. Brady takes his show to the 49ers along with Gronk and AB, that team is an immediate contender.

  44. Listnfrmafar Says:

Love to see it Bobby M. Finally a real coach.

  45. Rod Munch Says:

OK, you’re done there. Cool story, have fun somewhere else.

  46. Timothy Klaus Says:

Trey Lance showed a ton of progress between starts 1 and 2. Although he is athletic and can run, he’s very much a “pass first” QB. In limited play and with limited quality reps, he put up an 88 passer rating with 5 pass TDs to 2 INTs and a rush TD, too. Within Shanahan’s system and with the playmakers he’ll have around him, he’ll show you all why the 49ers moved on from nice guy Jimmy.

  47. PassingThru Says:

    @Ed

Actually, Jimmy G’s hesitancy increases dramatically toward the end of big games. I think the hesitancy is the product of him having a history of throwing interceptions towards the end of those big games. That last offensive series was telling: The first down pass was overthrown, Jimmy was worried as hell about the defender. The second down pass was nearly intercepted. The third down pass was classic Jimmy G, he looked like he was going to throw it twice before the actual pass, but doubt crept in leading him to hold it too long. He then misjudged the pressure (an endemic problem with Jimmy G) and threw a desperation pass which was then intercepted.

He’s a good regular season QB when healthy, but like many good to great regular season QBs (Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, etc.) he simply shrinks in the biggest moments of the biggest games.

  48. unbelievable Says:

He’s good… except in the 4th quarter of playoff games, where he has thrown 0 touchdowns and 4 interceptions…

I’d still take him over Checkdown Teddy though. Any day of the week and 3x on Sundays…

  49. Jonny Says:

Kirk Cousins > Garoppolo. Jimmy G is not a bad QB, he has some clutch gene in him. But he is very unimpressive of a thrower and also has the turnover gene to go with things. He cannot routinely throw the ball outside the numbers. He isn’t willing to.
