Manbeast Taylor Played Five Positions At Clemson

Joe admits it. He’s intrigued by Rendrick Taylor, the versatile, athletic manbeast fullback the Bucs signed yesterday along with four other guys out of their recent rookie minicamp.
Tom Balog, beat writer for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, explained the Bucs’ fascination with Taylor on Saturday.
Watching the 6-foot-2, 274-pound Clemson player being tried out as a fulltback and tight end, move around Saturday through special team drills, you wonder how he got here … as a tryout player.

And Joe’s been doing some digging. WBTW-TV in South Carolina reported that while Taylor is listed as a fullback on the Bucs’ roster, he played receiver, tight end, linebacker and running back at Clemson. And Joe talked to a Clemson official on Monday who didn’t want his name published, who said that Taylor is “a rare athlete who needs to stay in one position and get some great coaching.
Taylor also was injured throughout his college career, including missing the entire 2008 season.
Surely, all those injuries dropped his draft stock.
Joe has no clue what the future holds for Rendrick. But Joe imagines a 274-pound fullback with his kind of athleticism could do some damage on 3rd-and-1.

That’s great that the Bucs have an athletic guy to try for full back, I am a little scared about the injury history though. That seems to be a sore subject for Full back for the past couple of years. Also Joe, do you have a picture with this guy’s shirt on??

Dont have time to watch the video, but we’ve needed to find a Mac Truck for fullback since Alstott started getting injured. Lets hope this guy makes it.

We already have a physical blocking fullback in Chris Pressley. I would much rather hope this guy can be a blocking TE for us and help get the running game going. If so he could end up seeing a LOT of playing time.

We NEED a blocking TE and a REAL FB. I hope this guy is good in his blocking skills and switches between blocking TE and FB during games and of course 3rd and 1 situations.

He is a tryout player for a reason people. Remember what they drafted: football players: not combine specialists and workout warriors.
They have the offseason to do some homework and see if he has a fit, if not, so be it.

Rendrick Taylor didn’t just have some injuries in college. He missed 31 of 65 games in his 5 year college career. He missed 7 games in 2005 with a broken wrist, 6 games in 2006 with a broken arm, 3 games im 2007, the entire 2008 season, and two games last year. This dude is big as a house and made of glass.

sgw94 – Steve, you say we need a blocking TE. Are you sure? Don’t you think that’s being a bit greedy seeing as how we already have the best blocking WR in the NFL (allegedly) in Michael Clayton! And he’s got the contract to prove it.

This guy is nothing but a work-out warrior . He played 5 positions at clemson , but he played ALL of them so badly that not only didn’t he get drafted , but no team even offered to sign him as a free agent. He had to try-out.
Don’t get your hopes up people. He’ll probably be flipping burgers in September with Larry Brackins and Anthony Mix.

He didn’t attend the combine , so he didnt have to worry about drug testing.
