Tom Brady Creates “Arbitrary Pressure” For Young Players
January 13th, 2022Coach Brady shared one of his secrets today.
A couple of weeks ago on SiriusXM NFL Radio, receiver Cyril Grayson told a tough-love story about how Tom Brady hurt his feelings last year. But the end result was Grayson’s career shifting in a better direction.
Brady was asked today after practice about how and why he pushes practice squad players and youngsters on the roster.
It’s all part of a master plan.
“I think it’s important, you know, to put a lot of pressure on guys because you don’t know how they’re going to react. And if they’re not in there playing, you don’t get to see it very often,” Brady explained.
“When they get their chance, you know, you don’t want it to be their first time in a pressurized situation. So I am tough on those guys. Sometimes I do something that I kind of, you know, force the issue and create some arbitrary pressure just to kind of see how they react. It’s not like Mike [Evans] needs that. It’s not like Chris [Godwin] needs that. But young guys who haven’t played, they need that. And you want to see how they respond to the adversity.”
How cool is that? Brady is such a master at working with young players, and old players, and coaches.
Joe can only wonder how Brady has pushed Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Jaelon Darden at times.

I guess Brady put too much pressure on AB….

Can we nominate Brady for HC of the year? LOL
January 13th, 2022 at 5:40 pm
Darden needs a push all right. Like, a push back to the practice squad.

I think that Brady is not only the finest football player in history, he is the finest athlete in history. His leadership and positive-influencing aura is hard to measure but I’m sure is unsurpassed in any sport.

Swampbuc
Haha. Thats pretty good. Yah. Darden is not ready for bright lights yet
Hopefully next year. Cause look at vaughn. His pre limited chances in games were drops/fumbles/ missed blitz pick up
Some players take longer. Hope the kid can turn it up a notch if he gets snaps

Wonder if future MVP Karen Roger’s does this? This is where Belichick gets credit, he taught Brady to play situational football. If he were playing the Eagles in the elements expected Sunday, he’d have the team practicing with huge fans blowing, saturated footballs and the sprinkler system on full tilt.

This has to be killing Oneilbucyall, OralB, August & Buczilla.

Swagbucks couldn’t agree more. He’s done nothing for us.

There is no doubt that Tom Brady would have been great in any previous era of the NFL going all of the way back to the beginning. All NFL players are playing up to higher standards than ever today. TB is capturing records and setting the bar higher for people playing in the next thirty to fifty years. He’s the GOAT.
Go Bucs!

Nothing new here. MJ, Kobe, Ray Lewis etc are legendary for putting pressure on new players trying to see how they react. Hell magic had a young player cut because he felt he did not approach practice the right way. Winners like that want to ensure that EVERYBODY is prepared to play just in case your number is called. As we have seen this year, that has been valuable. Thats what the greats do. Set a standard that all must meet.

Hold on a sec Jimbo, if anyone has benefitted more from the rule changes than Brady, Ben would like to know whom. For medicated Pete’s sake, they made up the Brady rule, because his of his ACL injury. You don’t think Joe Montana, or Steve young would’ve had longer and more successful careers if they had the same rules? Brady is tremendous, and I’d never take anything away from him. We play in the era we’re born into. But to suggest that Tommy would’ve had anything close to the same career if he had played in an era where you could literally kill the QB, is just nonsense.
What the Giants did to Joe Montana in the 1990 NFC title game, would get you kicked out of the league now. Harry Carson, or Leonard marshall, Ben forgets which, buried Joe. On the way down, he bent his hand back (intentionally) breaking his hand, and destroying his elbow. Along with a severe concussion, it effectively ended Montana’s career early. He didn’t play for again until a meaningless regular season finale in 1992. Nobody respects Tommy more than Ben, but his longevity has in great part, been shaped by the rules

Ben saw first hand the “arbitrary” pressure he put on young recievers in NE. If they dropped a pass, they didn’t need to worry about dropping a second, because he never looked at them again. He scared the hell outta plenty young, inexperienced recievers. It got so bad, that the young guys were so afraid of dropping passes, that it messed with people’s confidence.

Listnfrmafar LOL 😆 😂 why would that stament be killing me lol 😆 😂??
January 13th, 2022 at 9:26 pm
@ Ben–intertesting take can you give examples of where that actually happened? Or is this how YOU remember it happening? Curious.
January 13th, 2022 at 10:51 pm
Nkeal Harry basically said that narrative was bs Ben in an interview last year. Had nothing but praise for Brady helping him but you know more than the player who was there. Brady played in both eras or did Drew Bledsoe accidentally get crushed . Maybe the Bills player just wanted a signed Brad helmet when he tried to take Brady’s head off. Your stick is lacking one thing. Basic facts.

Actually I agree with much of what you are saying, Ben. Just two responses.
The NFL is perpetually changing the rules, which changes the game. The bar is also being raised for what is expected over time as well. Today’s atheletes are generally superior to those of previous generations.
Montana, Young and Elway might each have had a chance to be called the GOAT under the right set of circumstances for all that I know. I saw them play. I did not see Sammy Baugh or Johnny Unitas play for example, so I can’t say anything about them.

So does the the typhoon mean we won’t get injured??? Lenny, Ke’, Bell, Gio. Are they all active? That’s a run, pass, and block for Brady and the dump down.
January 14th, 2022 at 1:25 am
Ben Green I agree 👍🏽 💯 % on your statement bro!! I’ve been saying the same thing bro!! Brady is a all time great quarterback but to call him the goat ?? I just can’t do say that because I can’t ignore what Dan Marino did in 84 and I was just 5 years old but he put up 5,000 yards in one season back then !!! I grew up a oilers fan I watch Warren Moon throw for a lot of yards back in the 80s and 90s ! I watched Elway , Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Montana, and they played in a much more physical League than today or 2007 !! A lot of people believe that Jordan would put up 50 points a game in today’s basketball. So we have to do the same thing in football because of the rules !!!!
January 14th, 2022 at 8:19 am
Ben & Oneilbucyall, Montana, Young all running QB’s, Moon played until 40-41. Marino didn’t win a damn thing, all Miami did was throw which goes against your stupid statement. Brady’s been playing for 22 years the rules were different when he started. How many penalties are thrown for hitting Brady after the pass? Not enough. He gets hit more than any one player on offense except linemen. The players you mentioned didn’t go out because of getting hit they retired because they couldn’t perform anymore. As for tough on young receivers, how do you think Edleman, Branden Cooks, Hogan, Dorsett, Mitchell achieved? They didn’t whine like N’keal Harry who still sucks by the way. Especially for a 1st round pick. Haters will always hate.

Argue, debate, and bench race all you want. Criticize to where your ego may drive you to feel empowered.
Very few of any words spoken that satisfies your armchair head coaching statuses make you all sound ignorant.
“THE RECORD BOOKS TELL THE TRUTH”
What’s your claim to fame?
January 14th, 2022 at 9:37 am
Listnfrmafar. Lol 😆 🤣 Brady must be your daddy Lol 😆 😂!! But go compare defenses between those teams and you will get your answer !!!
January 14th, 2022 at 9:40 am
Listnfrmafar Jim Kelly , Montana, and Moon were not running quarterbacks lol 😆 😂!!
January 14th, 2022 at 2:53 pm
If John Brown turns out to be a good receiver.
He should change his first name or take the nick name,
Antonio.
January 14th, 2022 at 5:31 pm
I think our next head coach should be TB. Make Gronk an assistant or TE coach.
January 15th, 2022 at 10:16 am
Could be closer to a SB win this year ! Rogers got the only award .he needs MVP of the NFL!! He could careless about a team trophy so he doesn’t need a SB victory !
