Tom Brady Vs. Aaron Rodgers? The Old Man Gets The Edge

Joe has noticed some old-school NFL writers in the national media are leaning towards Aaron Rodgers getting the NFL’s MVP award this year over Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.
One guy who does not seem to be jumping on that pile is former Belicheats beat guy Ron Borges. Now typing for SI.com, Borges admits the race is close. He gives the edge to Brady simply because Brady is the glue that holds the Bucs together.
Why, you ask, when Rodgers led the Packers to the same 13-4 record as Brady in Tampa and did it well enough to nose the Bucs out for the valuable home tundra advantage? In the end, it comes down to the numbers.
When all was said and done this year, Tom Brady became only the third quarterback in NFL history to lead the league in all four of the most significant quarterbacking categories – completions (485), attempts (719), yards (5,316) and (43) touchdowns. Only Peyton Manning and Drew Brees can make that claim. He also joined Brees as the only quarterback to pass for over 5,000 yards multiple times.
Certainly the analytic geeks can come up with New Wave mathematical equations to argue Rodgers was more efficient than Brady … or more accurate … or had a better touchdown-to-interceptions ratio. Of course, how did things work out last weekend for the NFL’s chief stat geek, Chargers’ head coach Brandon Staley? He crunched the numbers, and they crunched his team’s shot at reaching the playoffs when he over-thought the final seconds of L.A.’s game with the Raiders?
Borges also points out two things that give the edge to Brady. How many teams would have crumbled after furniture-tossing, bicycle-winging, tantrum-throwing quitter Antonio Brown went mental on the sidelines and walked away from the Bucs for good (after doing topless jumping jacks in the end zone)?
Also, Borges astutely observes, when all the Bucs injuries were piling up like empty cans of Big Storm Brewing beers in Joe’s living room on a football weekend, the stabilizing, calming force for the Bucs was Mr. Seven Rings. As long as Brady was upright, it was going to be OK.
Borges also threw some icing on the cake that Joe has been typing about for over a year now: The Bucs were the NFC’s fire hydrant in a dog park when Brady arrived. His talent, high standards, drive and sheer will to win turned this franchise totally around.

Brady wins this hands down in my opinion. His stats alone are better than Rogers then factor in all the injuries that TB12 had to over come. BRADY is the real MVP

It’s not even close. One guy cost his team a win with his antics the other guy pulls wins out of losses with backup players. One guy spends all day complaining complaining yes always complaining about cancel culture- the irony of this is rich and probably lost on Qaaron- the other guy gets his teammates millions in bonuses and is always available to play and has some funny comments too. Value? Pretty clear who the MVP is.

I am not sure if the voters factor in the fact that TB12 is doing all of this at the age of 44 as mentioned by another reader. If it is not a factor I think it should be. Brady is simply off the charts amazing and the easy choice for MVP for anyone who has eyes and a partially functional brain.

the injuries on the offense asdie, when you’re starting 4th, 5th, String corners and pulling secondary off the streets to field a team other teams will score. TB continued to score as did the other team to WIN the game. how many other QB’s could have done that and kept their team ay 5oo? Brady willed this team to a franchise best 13 wins!!! Karen Rodgers would have whined about how the team wont spend to help him but he wont restructure $$ back to help create space to better the team. Brady is a team first guy and Karen is a ME first guy.

I don’t pay attention to a ton of national media but the guys I see AND their guests just say, “Oh Rodgers, obviously, but…” like a throw away line. Like it’s already set in stone. And I don’t friggin get it!! It’s not even close. Brady should be a cinch!

I always hated Rodgers, but when he started red-pilling everyone, i have grown to like him. Screw all the writers and haters, he is allowed to do whatever he wants medically to stay healthy and it’s nobody’s business but his own.

Even if I wasn’t gifted with an inherent Bucs fan bias, I’d like to see Brady win the MVP just to witness a Rogers meltdown.
Love it when he draws from the pseudo intellectual bag of contemporary labels to explain away his issues. Like so many today, nothing is their fault, it can all be attributed to others.
Not much of a gambling man but I’d wager a buck he’d throw out terms like ‘cancel culture’ and ‘woke mob’ as reasons he didn’t win. Haven’t read all the articles on his previous vaccine faux pas, but everything I did read was laced with excuses about his definition of immunized verses vaccinated.
No matter your vax, anti-vax stance, his misleading “immunized” was tantamount to a lie.
If he would have simply apologized for misleading the press instead of blaming his lie on our cultural status, he might have replaced his ‘crybaby’ status with ‘respect.’

Budd, maybe so and right or wrong he cost GB a loss due to the NFL protocol. He didn’t have to take the jab but he did have to follow the protocol rules which he did not and apparently the organization knew about it. Slap on the wrist, no suspension. Brady accused of deflating balls, 4 games. Where’s the justice?

@ClodHopper: I agree completely. It’s so ridiculously lopsided in favor of Rodgers that it feels like I’m watching CNN’s coverage of the Trump administration over the 4 years he was in office. I’m not political at all and don’t care about either side, but it was so biased that it made me question whether there is a larger agenda at play that is beyond our understanding.
In Brady’s case all I can think of is possibly (1) he once had a MAGA in his locker or (2) the corporate media and those that work for it are run by the same billionaires that own the teams that Brady has been making look bad for two decades. They have no interest in seeing Brady receive any more accolades.
Deflategate, which was unequivocally proven to be a false accusation, is a great example of what they’ve been trying to do to Brady for years. Look up the MIT professor on YT who proves the balls weren’t being purposely deflated. The fact Brady has gone on to play in 4 more Super Bowls and win 3 of them since that joke of a witch trial actually provides the best evidence
Regardless, only Skip Bayless (as usual) and Jeff Saturday have been speaking up for Brady. But even Skip said’ “Brady should absolutely win it, it’s not even close, but he won’t” and ominously left it at that.

In the end, who cares?
MVP’s are nice awards and worth a conversation or two, but awards don’t win playoff games. A true MVP is more concerned with next week’s opponent over another trophy for his man cave.
