Bruce Arians: Word Of The Week Is “Discipline”

If the Bucs’ run defense thrives on Sunday, then the Bucs should dance their way to an easy victory.
But that’s no longer a given.
The Tampa Bay run defense went from legendary (2019 through half of 2021) to just pretty good.
Bucco Bruce Arians has cited many factors, and a new one was made public yesterday with Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV, “Some of it is a little bit of young players messing up,” Arians said.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is a true dual-threat guy with a whopping 784 rushing yards in 15 games this season. Arians says his presence will call upon the Bucs to be sound and free of freelancing.
“Assignment football, man. You gotta know who’s got dive, who’s got the pitch. It’s just like running against the option,” Arians said. “But then he can drop back and throw it. Scrambling, we had a little problem with Sam Darnold, who’s a little faster than most people think. So we gotta be disciplined. “Discipline” is a key word this week.”
Joe really isn’t concerned, though a blown couple of assignments early could give the Eagles confidence.
One thing to watch: Joe expects Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh to play far more snaps than the part-time diet they usually are served. That should be a positive for the run defense.

JTS needs to quit playing like a headless pidgeon and actually tackle the quarterback.
And I like Cam Gill but he is a liability in the run game.

Training wheels gotta come off. Hopefully they can give 9 just a few things to be responsible for and he will do them well.

Run defense is of paramount importance against Phili, it’s the one thing they do exceptionally well.
I trust the edge will be better sealed off against the run with both JPP and Shaq set to return. I sure hope LVD can return, I think White is more confident and comfortable with him inside, and that’s pretty damn important as well for run defense. Hurts is more of an opportunistic thrower, using the threat of a run to set up his passing attack.
Last week the Bucs made adjustments and stifled the Panther outside runs; Phili will be quite a bit more challenging. If Phili can run the ball, this will be a tough game as it will keep the Bucs off the field and prevent the Buc offense from getting into a passing rhythm.
So yes, the watchword this week is discipline, with an emphasis on run defense and route running on offense.

The wind forecast is supposed to howl on sunday around gametime. A cold front is scheduled to move thru and winds up to 40 according to wind finder. I hope lenny is saddled up, cause we gonna need him.

EXPERIENCE MATTERS IN THE PLAYOFFS …
1. The Eagles haven’t beaten a team with a winning record.
2. 1st year HC with 2 playoff games as OC.
3. 2nd year QB with 0 playoff games.
4. The Bucs are the defending Super Bowl Champs.
Bucs control this game from start to finish.

They’re going to run sweeps and outside short throws to RBs, screen passes, etc. As BA said yesterday, tackling is key. White has got the speed, but he and the DBs have got to make sure tackles. If we can do that, we’ll have no problem with the Eagles.
