Waiting On Jamel Dean

January 10th, 2022

Bucs CB Jamel Dean.

Of all the players dinged up for the Bucs, none trigger Joe more Jamel Dean and his new hamstring injury.

The Bucs cornerback tweaked it yesterday in the win over the Stinking Panthers. Today in his day-after presser, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians had no update. It seems the Bucs are still waiting on test results.

So Arians wouldn’t guess what Dean’s status will be for the Eagles game to being the playoffs.

Why is Joe triggered by this? Well, there seems to be a fatal flaw in the Bucs’ defense. Take out one of the top three corners, Carlton Davis, Sean Murphy-Bunting and/or Dean, and this defense totally falls apart.

Joe has no idea whether it is because of personnel or scheme or a little of both, but it is disturbing if not depressing how removing just one of those corners so often Pearl Harbors this Bucs defense. It shouldn’t be like that.

Joe can think of no other defense that plunges into the toilet so quickly when you take away one player or one position.

It’s almost to the point Joe would rather have Davis, SMB and Dean healthy over Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul. For a guy that drools over a pass rush, that’s how bad it is for Joe.

Last night the Panthers completed a pass over the middle with 4 Bucs defensive backs within 5 yards of the receiver, but not one back was any closer than that. There were no other Panthers in that zone. In a zone defence you have to tight cover any receiver in your zone. The Bucs have been vulnerable on pass defence.

I may have missed it at the game yesterday but I saw the panthers out on the field stretching but not the bucs. However, I may have been in the beer line.

    Glass Joe

  5. Nick Says:

We need to replace this guy next your ASAP. He has never been able to stay healthy and on the field. People that are injury prone always end up costing their team when they need them the most.

You can’t make the club in the tub.

    HUH????

All 3 of those turds started in Week 1 against the Cowboys and got LIT UP.

When will you admit the “Gravediggers” just aren’t that good? That’s a mediocre NFL secondary and NONE of them are a true shutdown corner.

When all three were hurt, didn’t you see what replaced them and how they played? And you call Davis, SMB and Dean “turds?” You would have thought Mike Smith was back in the building.

  9. Snook Says:

Anyone have a count on how many Bucs players have missed time due to hamstring injuries?

    Its gotta be over 10.

  10. Cobraboy Says:

Fortunately, the Iggles (still hate them going back decades) are not known as a serious rock thrower.

I’m more concerned about their run game and Hurts running around like a headless turkey.

Hurts is what you get when Shaft and Heinicke make a Love Child. 😉 😉 😉

bun is the Walter Mitty of JBF.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Dean or Davis or SMB over Shaq & JPP……..not me…..I’ll take the pass rush and a missing starting CB.

  13. SlyPirate Says:

The Eagles don’t have a single win against a quality opponent. The Bucs can outscore the Eagles. Dean can rest, if necessary.

  14. firethecannons Says:

    and we needed kyle trask?

  15. Bucs Guy Says:

Joe I think you missed the boat. The key to the defense is not Shaq, JPP or any of the corners. The key piece is LVD. He is the best coverage LB, he keeps Devin White on track and e eryo e else as well. He can blitz, run stuff and doesn’t miss tackles.

  16. WillieG Says:

Is the training staff to blame for all the hamstring injuries? It no longer a coincidence, it’s a pattern. To me, that points to the training staff.

  17. HeyItsAdam Says:

The Bucs training staff should really have these guys do some toe-touches before the game starts……

  18. BradyBucs Says:

The pass rush is what won us a Super Bowl. We could have had 4th stringers at corner and still won the Super Bowl with how much pass rush pressure we got on those injured O-Lines of Green Bay and Kansas City.

  19. Sc.Bucs fan Says:

I don’t have a good feeling with the secondary going to the playoffs. Dean seems to give guys lots of room then makes tackles after seven or 8 yard gain. Haven’t seen him break up a pass in a while. SMB seems afraid to tackle people. Maybe its the elbow but you don’t see him mixing it up.

  20. Jersey buc Says:

Joe. don’t know what it was like with smith in the building. Brady buc just talks noise like Ben green. Just band wagon fans that just hoped on or not fans at all

  21. Irishmist Says:

Next training camp, the Bucs need to bring in 4 or 5 super hot yoga instructors. Maybe that would get the guys to concentrate on stretching a little bit more.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Man there are some terrible takes in the comments on this one, lol.

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Jameela “Peanut Brittle” Dean is soft as a Twinkle filling. I’ve never seen a player show fear like he did on national TV against Dallas. Thru showed a close up of him and you could see the fear in his eyes. Dax was like in Water Boy, “Where’s my beeetch? There’s my beetch!”

  24. Bucfan Says:

What is up with all these hamstring injuries? Starting to believe we need a new trainer. I don’t see other teams this late.in the season with this many hamstring injuries. Would like some analysis on this.

To be cut. Certainly not a starter and he has a different type of injury every week.

  26. TruthSpeaker Says:

People have so much to say about Dean now but when he making plays you all be cheering. So called Buc fans, more like sometiming fans coming from a true fan

So wait, you mean in the 1st quarter of the 1st game of the season, the secondary didn’t look good vs the NFL’s highest scoring offense…

Amazing info bro, thank for sharing.
