Harold Goodwin Is Basically A Bruce Arians Clone
December 30th, 2021Joe is getting a lot of questions asking what type of change Bucs fans can expect Sunday when Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians sits out with the COVID.
Arians appointed Goodwin interim head coach until he returns.
First, Goodwin said Arians is in constant communication with offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. So there likely will not be any changes. Basically, Goodwin said, he’s keeping Arians’ seat warm.
Goodwin will handle any in-game decisions but it’s very likely he will act how Arians wants him to. It’s not that he will have any access to Arians, but Goodwin knows Arians so well he knows what Arians would do in just about every situation.
Since Goodwin started coaching in the NFL, with the Bears in 2004, he spent all but a handful of years by Arians’ side — at Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Arizona and in Tampa.
So Goodwin admitted he can pretty much read Arians’ mind.
“I would say so,” Goodwin said yesterday. “And I view B.A. as one of my major mentors as far as my coaching career because, like you said, I’ve been with him a lot. I probably in some shape or form carry a lot of his mannerisms, too. I don’t ride the golf cart, but a lot of things he does, says, sees, I see the same thing, so it makes it an easier transition for me.
“My job is just to follow protocol as far as the things he wants done, how he wants them done and just make sure I follow through with them.”
Goodwin said his biggest gameday decision likely will be whether to punt or to go for a first down. The rest will be same ‘ol, same ‘ol.

This week we get to see a gameplan with Arians forcing Leftwich to open things up. Lets see what we get. Will it be run up the middle, run left, throw deep (aka, the Ray Perkins offense) or will it be more creative? I’m going to guess it’s going to be more conservative than normal and people will make excuses for Leftwich like they always do.
But we shall see, maybe he’ll surprize me and not be the ultra-predictable bore he is when he doesn’t have Arians or Brady yelling at him.

Ray Perkins RIP, but please stay far from the Bucs offense….lol
Ray liked 3 a day practices lol in the Tampa summer heat , not good
Glad to see Goodwin get a little pub, a good coach and a decent human being.
GO BUCS!!!!!

Nor am I worried. I will repeat what I said in a previous post.
If you go to the Buc’s site you will find that Goodwin listed as Assistant Head Coach/Run Game Coordinator.
Who knows, he may be first guy from this staff who gets a head coaching gig for another NFL team! People in the know at a much deeper level than any of us should be the decision makers in the NFL.
Go Bucs!

I recall Goodwin interviewed for the Bucs top job after Lovie was fired and impressed ownership. I guess he get a week to show them some more. Bruce won’t be here forever and Goodwin is one of 3 preferred successors…the other 2 will be busy interviewing in January and February
