Bucs QB Tom Brady.
Tom Brady doesn’t want to hear any excuses.
He’s as bummed out by the injuries to the Bucs as the next person. Only it directly affects Brady. His three key targets, Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and Playoff Lenny, are all hurt. Godwin will not be back this season. Playoff Lenny won’t be back until the playoffs. Evans, who knows?
So dealing with injuries was a topic when Brady spoke to the local pen and mic club today.
“We are just going to have to keep adapting,” Brady said. “You lose a couple of guys in a game and then, you know, different guys with COVID and so forth that you lose.
“So you have to keep adjusting and adapting to figure out how we can adjust the best we possibly can.”
Brady admitted he’s been working with several backup receivers and running backs this week to try to help them impact games.
Brady tried to put a good face on the injury subject, even smiling when he finished speaking. But while he was answering questions about the injuries to his offensive teammates, Brady kept shaking his head back and forth, like a combination of feeling awful for them and the bad luck and timing of all the injuries.

Lady luck has certainly turned it’s back on the bucs going to need some backups and the remaining starters as well as the coaching staff to stepup if they want to have the chance to repeat going to be an uphill battle for sure

The sad part is the first guy you look at to step up is Tyler Johnson. Hes had a lot of snaps letely and done nothing asode for a few nice blocks.
It would be nice if we could count on a first round TE to step up but I gave up on him 3 years ago.
Our backups are pretty bad and proven to be overrated. Hopefully they proove me wrong.

I’m curious who’s gonna fill in for Godwin. Losing Godwin the receiver is one thing, the biggest hit will be losing Godwin the blocker. Evans and AB ain’t gonna be blocking like Godwin, Scotty and Permian can’t, I really think Tyler Johnson is the only guy that might be able to fill in. Run game and quick passes are going to get hurt the most. Gotta find a new to block on the run gam, maybe extra lineman. Giant blow to the Bucs!

Thank GOD we will have AB back for this game. He can take over a game all by himself.
Tyler Johnson is the only backup receiver I would keep next year.
Scotty Miller and Darden are helpless against press coverage, and could not get open last game if their lives depended on it.
OJ Howard is a bust, big time.
A real shame we wasted a 1st round draft pick on him. Does anyone realize how many really good players we missed out on, because of him ?
I get sick just thinking about it.

I remember when people used to say Tyler Johnson could/would eventually replace Godwin if/when he leaves via free agency. The respective athletic abilities of these two receivers could not be farther apart, now that doesn’t mean Tyler cannot succeed now that we need him but he will never be the equivalent of Godwin. Here is to hoping that for the playoffs we can have a lineup of Evans, AB, and perriman at receiver to go along with gronk, playoff lenny/ rojo. That lineup could still give a realistic shot at the super bowl in my opinion

Such is the NFL – luckily the defense is almost entirely healthy, hopefully it can stay that way through these last 3 games.
Last year we had to win key games without Vita Vea, Cappa, Antonio Brown, and Antoine Winfield.
We’re just going to have to adapt and run the ball a bit more and get the tight ends more involved.
I said it before, but at least we’re getting basically a month before the playoffs to try and adapt.

The Bucs aren’t putting a lot of guys, who they say will be out for the rest of the regular season, on IR. I wonder if they’re so up against the cap that they can’t afford to sign replacements.
OR, are they hoarding money for next years cap, and even if it’s only a few hundred thousands, you can still roll that over to next years cap. Not all players are active each week, so just signing some guys who won’t be active anyways, maybe it’s just not worth it.
It’s just odd since you normally expect teams to be really aggressive about using IR slots to bring in people.

What did he have to say about three points over the last six quarters and zero points at home against a wing-T QB imposter?
What did he think about his decisions to keep lobbing up highly inaccurate long overthrown floaters on third and short when he had guys wide open for the first down?
He played like an idiot against the Saints.

adam – Actually with AB and Perriman back it might not be that big of a difference that you need to make. AB should slide right into Godwins spot, and will likely perform about the same. Meanwhile with Perriman, you could put him outside in the Evans role and just have him run deep routes and keep a corner occupied. Obviously with Perriman there is a giant drop-off in talent, but he is big and fast and will catch a pass occasionally.
The big difference is with Rojo vs Fournette. Leftwich can’t be an idiot and just call a bunch of RB screens and flares like he does with Fournette. Rojo can’t catch worth anything, and throwing him the ball 7-8 times is going to end up with drops at best, and worst he’s going to knock the ball into the air trying to catch it and end up with an INT. Should be a 3-pass limit to Ronnie, much the same way the Vikings would severely limit passes that went to Adrian Peterson. Ronnie is an excellent runner, I believe, and if you just allow him to run the ball, and don’t try to make him into something he isn’t, I think he’ll reward the team with a big day rushing the ball. If they try to make him into a pass catching back, it’s going to be a very bad day.

Rod, I tend to agree with your assessment above. Perimen almost certainly will occupy Evan’s spot. And we all know AB is still one of the best to do it. I too like rojo very much as a runner. Clearly he’s not a reliable passcatcher but lately he’s caught the few he’s been thrown. Will be interesting to see if they throw to Vaughn again.
Off topic, it’s interesting to see that both ex Bucs kickers, Anger and Gay, both made the pro bowl. Ironic.

The key for the offense is the o-line. They’re going to have to play like the pro-bowlers they are. We cannot have another performance like last week. As long as they can give TB a clean pocket, he’ll find targets, backups or not. We know Miller can catch. We know Brate can catch. We know Perriman can catch. We know Gronk is TB’s security blanket. Just a matter of the receivers getting open and TB having a little time to go through his progressions. If Rojo and Vaughn can just have decent games, we should be ok.

Darden is now on the covid list so we’ll definitely see a new returner this Sunday. Probably why they were trying some guys out. Nunez Roches too, which is more of an issue.

Swamparse, when a ball drops right in a players hands o. The 4 yd line, that so called floater and it’s dropped. Not really his fault and when OJ, Vaughn and Brate drop key 3rd passes not really Brady’s fault. This offense is so basic and predictable I’m surprised they can score at all. When all of us are watching the game, how many times can you call what play is coming? Exactly, so how easy is it for a DC?

Steven007 – At the time I said the Bucs would be pretty stupid to let Gay walk, he showed enough as a rookie that you knew he was going to be good. He lost the team 2 games that year, and that was an issue, but if you’re going to draft a guy, that’s what you have to put up with. I said at the time that by year 3, he’s going to be a pro-bowler, and sure enough. We could have had a kicker for the next 15-years, but people have zero patient.
Even Roberto was still bouncing around the league up until this year. He’s another guy where if they just stuck with him, I strongly believe he’d still be kicking today. However the huge downside with Roberto was the lack of leg strength, his long was only 43 yards and he wasn’t really a guy who you wanted kicking over 50. Where as Gay will one day kick like a 63 yarder in his career.

What I sense from Bucs fans posting since the Saints loss is that with our starters out, we won’t be competitive. Although that may end up being true, I doubt it. With backup receivers in the lineup for the next 3 games, it will take some time to develop timing. If anything, because this Sunday’s game is only a few practices from losing 3 elite starters on O, I think this game against the Panthers might be the rockiest. With another week of practice, against the Jets, we should be better, and then in the last game against the Panthers, our O should be better and we should win, even if the Panthers beat us this week. I have faith and hope in this team, but c’mon man, when you lose that many elite athletes/starters, it takes TIME to regain form and figure out a competitive approach. Thus, I wouldn’t be shocked if we somehow lose this weekend, but I expect improvement against the Jets. We shall see, but in my 40 years of watching football, I am optimistic. For the playoffs lets hope we get back a few starters, and then, anything – ANYTHING – is possible. As it stands now, if we win 2 of the next 3, we’ll win division and have an OK playoff seeding. What was our playoff seeding last year? Don’t lose faith Bucs fans!

D-Rok, the defense actually showed me a lot against the Aints Sunday night. That’s why I’m so disappointed in Bron, TB, the OL and the backup skill guys. And Gronk. And the idiot kicker. And the shanking punter. The D put out oe of their best performances of the Bowles regime and all Boron could do was to keep calling plays that were either pass/run options (TB loves to pass) or long developing passes. Horrible gameplan and no adjusting.

Agree that our D had its best game since the SB – by far. It seems the D was the only unit on the team that had its head screwed on tight and was down to play, and let’s face it, the D was dominant. Only 9 points. It was a horrendous game by most/all except the D.
To defend the offense, think about it: The offense may start slow (several times this year) but they count on all 60 minutes with the stars to get points and win over the course of the game. This game, our stars/starters got taken out rather quick, and the back-ups simply were thrust into an unexpected role, but still, when you are 2nd string, even 3rd string, you practice/prepare as if you will see the field that week. IMO, the backups were either caught off-guard (“OMG, Godwin went down? What do I do?”) or simply weren’t coached/practiced well enough to take the field after starters went down.
Circling back, yeah the D was on fire this game. The rest of the team was ice-cold, overall. Yet still, I have optimism we can at least be competitive and not look inept again in the coming 3 weeks. We’ll hopefully get a few injured starters back for play-offs, and then we’ll see.
Let’s SEE what this Bucs team is made of this year. Are they soft? Can they overcome adversity? Let’s see. Until then…

Yes, if a D gives up 9 and the opposing D gives up 0, the D gave up too many points. Go back to you pro vax or anti vax protest, I’m sure you get off on controversy.

It’s going to be up to the offensive line to hold for a 4 count.
The normal 3 count isn’t enough for any receiver except Gronk.
The running game I’m not counting on much.
