Five Bucs Named To The Pro Bowl!
December 22nd, 2021Five Buccaneers have earned the respect of NFL fans, their peers and coaches around the league.
And Lavonte David and Devin White are not among the honored.
Buccaneers outside linebacker and sacks king Shaq Barrett, center Ryan Jensen, guard Ali Marpet and tackle Tristan Wirfs join Tom Brady as NFC Pro Bowlers for the 2021 season. The game will be played the Sunday prior to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
Of course, the goal is for none of those guys to show up because they’re too busy preparing to play in the Super Bowl, not the glorified flag football game that is the Pro Bowl.
No surprise that the offensive line drew so much love. Their pass blocking collectively has been the best in the NFL. Marpet has earned super high grades inside the walls of One Buc Palace, Wirfs gets mad respect from around the NFL, and it appears Jensen does as well. They are all first-time Pro Bowlers.
Barrett is going to his second Pro Bowl. He got there with the Bucs after his 19 1/2-sack campaign in 2019.
Three Bucs were named as first alternates at their positions: wide receiver Mike Evans,LB Devin White and safety Antoine Winfield, Jr.
Other alternates (2nd or later) are Alex Cappa, Leonard Fournette, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski and Vita Vea.
Some may be surprised Vea didn’t fare better with fans, coaches and players. Joe is not.
Congrats to all.
The Pro Bowl selections are based on three voting groups, fans, players and coaches, each getting equal weight.

This is the most since I’ve been a fan! Very exciting. Wish Vea and David didn’t get shafted again, but hey the big boys up front finally got some respect. Kudos!

Awesome. Proud of you guys. Well deserved!
December 22nd, 2021 at 8:16 pm
Kinda harsh on Vea there Joe.

Also for David or White to not be a shoe in is ridiculous. That post pumped out by Buccaneers . com the other day showing David’s stats spoke for themselves.
Sad.
December 22nd, 2021 at 8:36 pm
Godwin should have gotten the Nod!!
December 22nd, 2021 at 8:40 pm
Many fans, players and coaches think Vea is a top 5 talent. Interesting.
December 22nd, 2021 at 8:49 pm
3 pro bowl offensive lineman and we barely ever run the ball – say that out loud 5 times
Really starting to think that Godwin getting injured might actually help us because we’re going to be forced to establish the run game, and teams are not going to be able to prepare for us the same way
December 22nd, 2021 at 8:49 pm
……wait.
No Durable Donnie?
🥲

Matt Gay is the K
Maybe Light is a genius after all
December 22nd, 2021 at 9:00 pm
Damn, that’s great for us and I’m surprised that we had that many.
December 22nd, 2021 at 9:30 pm
Must have been that awesome shutout loss on Sunday that put the others over the top.
December 22nd, 2021 at 9:39 pm
Matt Gay made the probowl……so there is that.
December 22nd, 2021 at 9:45 pm
Pro Bowl has lost a lot of its luster over the years. The game itself is a big yarn. And attendance has dwindled. I guess its still an honor of sorts among the players. But a lot of them opt out and say they are injured. So much for prestige huh? Just get to the big game Bucs.
December 22nd, 2021 at 9:51 pm
I think I was the only one here that said to keep Gay. If you’re going to suffer through a rookie year where he costs you 2 games, but showed obvious talent, then you just keep him around. If you draft a rookie expecting them to be perfect, you’re going to fail 95 out of 100 times, where as if you’re realistic about them, know a rookie kicker isn’t going to be a HOF from day 1, and give them more than one season to prove themselves, you’re going to look smart a majority of the time if they show promise their rookie year.

This should be the final nail in the coffin to anyone who blamed the offensive line between 2015-2019
December 22nd, 2021 at 10:08 pm
You just wanted to buy his jersey Fancy Man.
The double entendre would’ve worked well for you.
😀

DoooshLaRue – Actually that was a huge part of the fun of having a Gay kicker, getting to say stuff like he blew it. So for the first time ever, you are correct! Congrats!
December 22nd, 2021 at 10:17 pm
Debo Samuel? I feel like he is the flavor of the month, I don’t get it! He’s top 6 in receiving and not even top 18 in TDs! WTH?!
December 22nd, 2021 at 10:26 pm
Jaeyleaon Darden didn’t make it as a kick returner???? Robbed
December 22nd, 2021 at 10:35 pm
Darden is 20th in kick return average and 16th in punt return average.
The hard-on you bore have about Darden, literally complaining about him on every single play, even if he gets a good return you idiots complain about it, it’s not backed up by the numbers. He’s a very average returner, and he’s a rookie.
Then you have the fact you same idiots did nothing but complain all last year about Mickens returning the ball, he needed to be cut, then the Bucs cut him and you complain about how the Bucs were stupid to cut him.
You guys are complete and total bores who don’t seem to understand the NFL has changed. There’s almost no good return guys anymore. Instead of complaining and repeating what some idiot on the radio said, if you bothered to actually looks at the numbers, look at what other teams are doing, look at the complete lack of production in the return game for nearly every team, you’d realize that Darden is what you get now as a returner.
December 22nd, 2021 at 10:41 pm
Darden sucks. WHen he’s not sucking, he blows. He probably slept with Liz Franc.
December 22nd, 2021 at 10:43 pm
Pete’s glad all his fans & readers voted in Ryan Jensen. That was the one guy Pete told u guys to vote for. Thank you all
December 23rd, 2021 at 12:55 am
Cappa???
December 23rd, 2021 at 1:42 am
why not Godwin ? who has over 1000 yrds receiving in 14 games
December 23rd, 2021 at 6:23 am
I’m definitely a Vea fan, but not surprised at all he didn’t fare better. He hasn’t been as impactful as his return for the playoff run last year. Very much like Devin White. I am a White fan as well and see Vea, White and Winfield as a potential Sapp, Brooks & Lynch. I am a little befuddled as to why Donnie didn’t fare better.
December 23rd, 2021 at 7:30 am
Rod ok with you mentioning Darden’s average’s. I would ask you how many punts has he let drop to the ground without catching. That is an important skill for a punt returner.
Here is what I found for a simple sort on Pro football reference in Kick Returners average return with at least 10 kickoff returns (Darden has 15):
Kene Nwangwu 37.2
Tremon Smith 29
Tony Pollard 28.8
Braxton Berrios 28.7
Isaiah Rodgers 25.5
DeAndre Carter 25.4
Khalil Herbert 25.2
Byron Pringle 25
C.J. Board 24.8
Andre Roberts 24.7
Gunner Olszewski 24.7
Devin Duvernay 24.6
Isaiah McKenzie 24.3
Jakeem Grant 24.2
Godwin Igwebuike 23.9
Jamal Agnew 23.9
Cordarrelle Patterson 23.7
Deonte Harris 23.6
Jaydon Mickens 23.3
DeeJay Dallas 22.8
Ray-Ray McCloud 22.4
Rondale Moore 22.4
Brandon Wilson 22.4
Jalen Reagor 21.3
Avery Williams 21.2
Anthony Schwartz 21.1
Ameer Abdullah 20.8
Trenton Cannon 20.5
Jalen Richard 20.4
Kylin Hill 19.9
Kenyan Drake 19.2
Jaelon Darden 18.9
So on that metric, he is 32nd and maybe those Bucs fans eyes are correct.
