Joe noticed a question in the comments on this here corner of the interwebs, and it was a good question. So here is the answer.
The question was when is the last time the Bucs beat the slimy Saints by double-digits?
Joe — and the guy who typed the question — are of the belief the Bucs will be in for a dogfight. The slimy Saints have the Bucs’ number in the regular season. When the Bucs win, it’s almost always a one-score game.
The key term here is regular season. Last year in the playoffs the Bucs beat the slimy Saints by 10. 🙂
So Joe did the research and while the Bucs’ last double-digit win against New Orleans deserves an asterisk.
The last time the Bucs beat the slimy Saints by double-digits was a 23-13 win at New Orleans on the last Sunday of the 2010 regular season led by the notorious Josh Freeman. The asterisk is deserved because the slimy Saints began pulling starters late because they had the division locked up.
You may remember that season. It was the last time the Bucs had double-digit wins until the arrival of 17-game-loathing, salad-bar-hating, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.
The Lost Decade.
The 2010 Bucs lost a wild card tiebreaker to the Packers who went on to win the Super Bowl.
The last double-digit Bucs victory over New Orleans that you cannot slap an asterisk on came during the Chucky administration — in 2007 in Tampa before a soldout crowd.
Cadillac Williams had a pair of one-yard runs and Joey Galloway had two touchdown catches from Jeff Garcia, including a 69-yard bomb, for a 31-14 win.

This game is a litmus test of the Bucs coordinators IMO. BL needs to call less predictable plays and Bowles needs to make some 3 and outs and get off the damn field!
I have no expectations from ST except for the kickers.

I just want the Bucs to keep the foot on the gas pedal. I want to see the Bucs run up a score and then keep scoring until there is absolutely no doubt the saints are beaten. I see nothing wrong with that. The Bucs have been beaten by 35-40 points and no one said a dang thing. That is what I want. Bury the Saints and then pile on more freaking dirt.

Sometimes I like to think about how history can be changed by one small action.
The 2010 Packers would never have won the Super Bowl if not for a single bogus call against the Bucs. When the Bucs are playing the Lions that year, a certain Tampa tight end (who shall not be named) was incorrectly called for offensive pass interference, negating a touchdown that would have won the game for the Bucs.
With that victory and the remaining games they won that year, the Bucs would have been the wild card that replaced the Packers. No Aaron Rodgers Super Bowl ring, he’d be in Dan Marino territory now, and the Raheem-Josh Freeman dynasty would have been born (okay, maybe I’m dreaming on that one).

Wrapping up the division and going for home-field advantage… I have a feeling they break the streak tonight and put a pounding on the Saints.

They had Brees all that time… They do not have a QB half that talented today…
Stop the run and it should be one of the Bucs best games against the Saints in years….
People were so sold on the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, No one thought the Bucs would hold them to 9 points and Zero TDs..
