Lots Of DBs Did Not Practice
December 16th, 2021It’s not like the Bucs defense played stout football in the second half last week. A big reason is the defense collapsed after cornerback Jamel Dean went out with some sort of illness/wooziness.
So looking at today’s injury report is a bit depressing for Joe. Three potential starters in the defensive backfield did not practice today.
Running back Leonard Fournette (ankle), cornerback/safety Richard Sherman (Achilles), safety Antoine Winfield (foot) and Jamel Dean (illness) missed practice again today. Safety Jordan Whitehead (calf) was limited.
If Bucs fans are looking for something in the injury report to make them feel better, both of the Saints starting tackles, Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk, have yet to practice this week in preparation for the Sunday night game with the Bucs. Both are nursing knee injuries.

Dean was listed as concussion on todays report
So, that probably puts him out this week and next week if not more

Once again the DBs are riddled with injuries. At least the other backups are getting time and experience, which may off down the road. It stinks that LeShaun Jackson has not practiced for the Ravers either, with the Packers coming to town.
We will certainly watch intently for tomorrow’s injury reports.

Plan on a tough contest Sunday night. Lots of film from the Bills second half comeback on how to beat the Bucs with a running quarterback, a decent running back who can run a draw play, the prospect of being able to break tackles from poor technique defenders, and the Saints general ownership of the Bucs in the regular season.
Oh, and Brady tends to suck against the Saints defense, so there’s that.

Not the injury report the Bucs e-mailed Joe. Condition listed as “illness.”

Jordan:
Here is the screenshot of the e-mail Joe received from the Bucs of today’s injury report. Dean was listed as sitting out for “illness.”

It is my opinion that the Bucs PLAYED TO NOT LOSE in the second half and damn nearly gave the game away. Our play calling in the 2nd half was horrific. Do y’all think for one second that Mike Tyson would give the other fighter a chance to get his breath. And that timeout with 1:04 left????????? Tony Bobo said that was a good idea so they can rest. Well guess what. The Bills get to rest too. They showed Tom on the sideline saying “a time out?” I was yelling at the tv “why in hell isn’t the clock running”

Wow Swampbuc, that’s a awfully negative assessment, considering that the Bucs are 10-3 & playing at home (where they’re undefeated), while the Saints are 6-7 & even more banged up than we are.
Regarding the Bills second half comeback though, Bills only ran on 19 plays (25% run-pass). Allen ran on 12 of those; some were obviously designed runs, but most looked to be RPOs or scrambles. He made it work because he’s a superb talent. Plus Allen passed so much (54 times) that our defense was probably playing pass even more than usual. Can’t see ANY Saints’ QB pulling off that same type of performance.

no practice.. days off…veteran’s day….today is Thursday….how in a heck we going to beat them????

Should have gotten a quality db instead of a backup qb and kept Griffin

Wouldn’t surprise me if we drop this game. Lots of injuries again. And we constantly get outcoached and outplayed against the Saints.
Secondary has not been healthy at all this year and it’s looking likely that won’t be changing in the playoffs.
December 16th, 2021 at 6:55 pm
Well now that Wednesdays are walk through, those second stringers are really going to know what they’re doing out there. Oh and coaches don’t stay late, no wonder the D is running around clueless. Oh I forgot the players know what to do. The D has let up 23 points a game so the O is 23 points in the hole at kick off.

Could see us losing this game, it’s basically a must win for Saints to get into the playoffs. If they lose, they are going to be hoping for a huge mess for a handful of other teams.
December 16th, 2021 at 7:38 pm
I like this attitude of people actually having doubt vs the Saints, as opposed to last game when all the people on the message board said it was in the bag, no way the Saints win, blah blah blah.
Payton is probably the 2nd best coach in the NFL, behind Bilichek, and he has Arians number. Yeah, we beat the Saints in the playoffs, but Payton had a QB that couldn’t throw it more than 12 yards downfield. If the roles were reversed, if Payton coached the Bucs in that game, they probably win by 30. That sounds like a diss on Arians, but it’s not meant to be, I just think that highly of Payton, the guy is a prick, and a fantastic coach.
I wouldn’t be shocked at all if the Bucs lose this game, but I do believe they’ll win it… well, until I remembered it was on Sunday Night Football…

The Bucs should hire Medicated Pete.
December 16th, 2021 at 8:55 pm
Defense Rules – I generally like your takes, and you can also take your Pollyanna act and shove it. The reason this team is 10-3 is because the offense scores more than 31 points a game. When they don’t they lose or almost lose. The defense has been banged up. The old guys are getting tired faster. You know this given what I’ve read from you before. Stop suddenly pretending you’re some ignorant homer who doesn’t recognize an awful half of football when he sees it. And yes, the offense was culpable as I’ve also said – Brady was busy doing a Shaun King impersonation for most of the second half.
The rose colored glasses don’t look good on you.

This does not sound like a Super Bowl winning team.
A large list of different players every week. We did have a very soft schedule now that we’ve seen their records.
I will always keep the faith every week but this backup defense won’t be able to beat a top tier offense in the playoffs.

While Taysom Hill has had our number in years past, he is still a gimmick QB and NOTHING like Josh Allen. Bowles needs to focus on Kamara and designed runs by Hill. Stop that and the Bucs will be fine.

Anyone watching Thursday Night Football?
David Parham just sustained a very serious injury. It looks like a brain injury, more serious than the typical concussions we see from time to time.

“When they don’t they lose or almost lose.”
Exactly.

Dean was hurt most of his college career and now he’s hurt all the time in the pro’s.
MOVE ON NEXT YEAR!
December 16th, 2021 at 9:44 pm
PassingThru – I saw that and literally got sick to my stomach. And so strange, he caught the ball and landed like everyone who plays those positions does – obviously something went horribly wrong. I am so in the man’s corner, wishing the best.
December 16th, 2021 at 9:54 pm
Passing thru- You’re right, when someone’s arms are crossed like that with their hands fisted it’s called decorticate posturing, and it’s usually a sign of a severe brain injury. Too many times we see receivers get hurt like that, by slamming the back of their head on the turf, unable to protect themselves as they try to hang on to the catch. Vincent Jackson had stage 2 CTE according to his autopsy. It’s time the league admits that the outside of helmets need to be padded to help minimize these injuries, even if it eliminates that cool cracking sound when they bang their heads together.

Irishmist – right on.
December 16th, 2021 at 11:13 pm
TNF – Chargers are indeed dangerous. Three times they came away from inside the KC 5 with no points and lead by a TD with 2 minutes to go. Great game if you aren’t a fan of either team, the kind of game that causes my stuff to end up in the pool.
December 16th, 2021 at 11:37 pm
@Swampbuc But lost because of their aggressive coach. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. Can’t come away with no points that many times against a good team. The Chiefs are still a shell of their last year self. They aren’t going back to the dance.
December 17th, 2021 at 12:00 am
Whitehead getting back is very big, though. You think the Bucs have the least tackles, and you say “oh yeah Whitehead ain’t there.” Hope he can be one of the rare that remains healthy.
December 17th, 2021 at 6:30 am
Well, we’ve been playing with this all year and somehow managed 10 wins. I don’t like it but consider earlier we were without SMB and CD, our top 2 corners.
We cannot overlook ANY football teams if we want a bye in the playoffs. For all the reasons above, better coaching, better RB, having our number, TB12 with 2 losses to them, those are the reasons that we should zero in on this game.
