Chris Simms Sings Praises Of Bucs Offense

One former Bucs quarterback is absolutely in love with the current Bucs offense. And Joe can only guess he’s including a sidelined lethal weapon in his analysis.
The former Bucs quarterback is Chris Simms. Tampa Bay has only hosted two playoff games since Chucky hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy aloft in the San Diego night sky. And one of those two starting quarterbacks in those games is Simms.
(The Bucs lost with Simms (2005 playoffs) on a controversial no-catch call on Edell Shepherd for a Bucs touchdown with 3:03 left that could have tied the game that ended in a 17-10 loss to Washington.)
This week on his podcast, “Unbuttoned,” Simms broke down Sunday’ overtime win over Buffalo and Simms began drooling over the Bucs offense.
“Their offense, it’s spoiled with riches,” Simms said. “It really is. Big offensive line. Phenomenal at pass protecting. You’ve got weapons that are mismatches across the board. You’ve got a good running back. And then you have a playbook that has everything. I mean everything.
“And then you have [Tom] Brady at quarterback. So not only do you have all of that, I would certainly put the Bucs offense at one of the five best offenses — on paper, scheme, plays, whatever — it’s one of the best in football.
“They have an answer for everything. And with Bruce Arians and [Byron] Leftwich, what I love about them is, their answers aren’t usually ‘Let’s find a four-yard completion.’ Their answers are ‘Let’s find a 40-yard completion and really screw you.'”
Joe can only assume Simms includes furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing, fake V-card flashing Antonio Brown in his summation that the Bucs offense is one of the best in the history of the game.
Because if Simms watched the full win over Buffalo or almost any of the game without Brown, Simms would have seen with his own eyes how this offense sometimes goes into snooze mode if not struggles.
There’s no way one of the top offenses in NFL history would have scored just three points in a full half against a defense like Buffalo’s unless the starting quarterback got hurt.
Anyone who has watched the Bucs in losses this season to the slimy Saints or to the WTF, or the second half against Buffalo knows this team misses Brown. That’s all there is to it. Anyone who suggests otherwise is simply not being honest.

“….a defense like Buffalo’s”. Only the #1 rated defense. Yes, weak pass rush but very good in coverage (unlike us). Yes we should have scored more, but Buffalo doesn’t suck.

I think this reaction to the Buc’s second half “collapse” is overblown and incorrect.
Yes the Bucs grew bored with the Bills after that first half much as my cat gets bored with the lizards when they stop moving and fighting…as soon as he grows complacent the lizard escapes. Is that good…no…but when you do it and get away with it it says something about the genuine quality of the team.
Meanwhile stop dissing Josh Allen. The kid played his heart out and carried the Bills to that comeback, giving up his body in the process.
The Bills should come away from that game with two lessons. Yes if you wish to turn Allen loose and maximize all his skills you can compete with the SB Champs. However your QB will have a short career.

I listened to him yesterday, and he said, from what he saw, in the second half Brady just flat out missed a few throws that he makes 99 out of 100 times that killed drives. If you listen to the entire segment, which is probably a good 15-20 minutes, I think he does a good job of being really fair.
He said Florio might have had a good point, that after Brady got hit on those rushing attempts in the first, he hasn’t all that accurate. That would make sense, actually, being a bit older than Brady, if you get hit, you might not feel it at the moment, but it’s also not the next day when you feel it, sometimes it might be a half-hour or later later.
Simms said that Brady’s mechanics looked just off in the second half, with the ball coming out low, almost at a nose down angle.
If true, if the rushing hits caused issues, it would be why Arians sounded like a nutjob saying no more of Brady rushing.
In any case, it’s amazing how Simms, who sounds half-tard, does such a good job with his commentary. He’s starting to have a pretty long history of being correct on a lot of different things, and gives pretty good insight.

Medicated Pete: Are you “Ivan The Insider”? He/you made these grand predictions (such as, Bucs will take an RB instead of Wirfs, GUARANTEED) and none of them came true.

There is no doubt we miss fake V-card flashing Antonio Brown, but Perriman isn’t exactly a bad receiver.
After all, he won that game for us.

Agree with Sims and Rod’s interpretation of of what he said and points on
Brady’s second half. No knock on AB , but I also think Brady distributed the ball
better and the offense was clicking on all cylinders in both the Falcons game and the first half of Bills game. Another thing the O line gave him plenty of time to
go through his progressions in those situations. IN the Atlanta game he was bouncing on his toes and even drifted to his right to complete a pass.

Permian was pretty good with Winston. I guess he’s still learning the no risquit no bisquit offense. Chris Simms is a good straight up commentator not like the CBS guys that were rooting for the bills the whole game. Saying the bucs should of got called for every PENALTY in the book when buffalo was holding like crazy and gave alot of late hits that were never called. I would never want to watch a BUCS game on CBS again I rather listen to the radio or watch on my phone than listen to them two guys again broadcasting a BUCS game. BUCS ALL THE WAY TO THE PROMISE LAND!!!

Joe, you’ve made this statement several times, but I have to ask. Why were the Bucs able to score 24 point in the first half without AB? Maybe’s there’s a legit reason, but I can’t figure it out. I’m not saying AB isn’t a great player. But, if he’s so important to this offense, why can they go on big runs at times and then sputter at others, each without AB. If he was so critical, you’d think that the O would be consistently good with him and consistently bad without him. They are not.

We have a great offense, but it’s not one of the best ever yet. Brady is the best player ever regardless of position. Gronk has a good argument for best tight end ever, but there is no Emmitt Smith or Jerry Rice on this team. Mike and AB should be first ballot hall of famers and Godwin certainly has the potential to be, but right now, none of them are legendary, all time greats. Our offensive line is damn good, but I don’t see any hall of famers on it.
It is easily our best offense ever and even though I prefer three yards and a cloud of dust, then throw a bomb for eighty yards, over dinking and dunking and throwing seven yard completions over the middle (please allow defenders to smash receivers in the middle of the field again), it’s been fun to watch.

I wonder how many of the batted balls Simms remembers from those games he started in 2005 – 2006? It would be tough, it seemed like he threw around 100.

I don’t know if 27 isn’t enough to win and averging over 31 points a game is a disappointment your expectations are probably a bit too high. A sputtering offense? Would you all be saying that if Bucs scored 14 points in the first half and 13 in the second? Tjat would be okay? They average 31 points a game what more do you want?

AB lied so he’s a snake. Great take, guess most humans are snakes since they lie. Get over your holier than thou self. He’s a football player not a saint. We scored 33 points and had like 420 yards of offense without him so it’s not like we absolutely need him buuut when he comes back and reaclimates himself with playing again this offense is really going to be a load to handle. Tyler Johnson and Perriman will have more experience playing as well.
By the way that so called controversial drop was exactly that a drop. It came loose on the way down in the end zone, saw the replay that game. I remember another Gruden game during the pre season I think against WTF and the Dexter Jackson bust lost a fumble on a return and Gruden challenged it saying the ground couldn’t cause a fumble……….true, that is if he is first hit by a defensive player. Replay showed he tripped over a blade of grass or maybe knocked down by a shadow or maybe he got scared but no one had touched him so of course the challenge was turned down. Positives:
The usual 100+- yards worth of Buccaneers’ penalties are suddenly gone in the Bills-game.
This happened last year about this time, where they (the Buccaneers) went from one of the most penalized teams, to one of the least penalized.
And.
Ya, AB (if he ever comes back) for being a “getting-open-in-the-red-zone” specialist.
