Weather Silly Talk From Bruce Arians

December 11th, 2021

Joe loves Bucco Bruce Arians, but when a yellow flag is deserved, Joe has to throw it.

Tossed at the head coach yesterday was the notion that the Bucs would benefit from 80-degree temperatures at kickoff tomorrow at 4:25 p.m. against the Bills.

Arians was buying in.

“It should be beneficial to us,” Arians replied. “It’s going to be warm for them, that’s for sure. You can only turn the heat up in your building so high without dehydrating everybody. I’ve been down that road, too. So yeah, it’s nice to have home field advantage.”

Joe wishes Bucs head coaches would stop claiming the home-field heat is an advantage. Just stop it. The evidence isn’t there.

Last year, Joe didn’t see the Chiefs fall apart in Tampa when they beat the Bucs on Nov. 29 on a hot day. Two weeks later, the Minnesota Vikings dominated time of possession in Tampa — 39 minutes to 21 minutes for the Bucs — during a 1 p.m. kickoff on a humid 78-degree day. Yeah, the Vikings lost, but they didn’t wilt.

So many Bucs coaches over the years have talked about how opponents were bound to crumble in the extreme September heat and humidity in Tampa, or be overwhelmed on a hot December day when the visitor is coming from a cold climate. It just doesn’t work that way.

In fact, Joe would suggest opponents are often energized by the warmth and pristine conditions. (For those wondering, the Bucs haven’t played a warm weather game since hosting the Bears on Oct. 24).

There might be one quarter’s worth of sun on the field tomorrow before very comfortable conditions settle in. The weather should be no factor. What should matter is the Bills having no pass rush and no No. 1 cornerback against the Bucs’ historic passing attack.

Throw, baby, throw!

Vikings play and practice indoors. Well aware of that. Bills practice indoors, too.–Joe

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

LOL……………the advantage is for the bucs…..

I’m sure any football player ain’t thinking about the WX once “toe meets leather”

  3. Rayjay1122 Says:

Weather is no advantage, what is an advantage is an ultra loud environment like in domes. One day maybe before the year 2100 the Tampa Sports Authority and Bucs ownership will be smart enough to finally go that route.

  4. Kentucky Buc Says:

Indoor facilities don’t have humidity. It will be a small factor with the breathing. Pats struggled in Miami for years because of it.

I’m sorry guy but that’s NOT correct. I’m trying not to be too disrespectful and I’m “trying” not to “assume” your lifestyle, but it seems CLEAR that you in no “Real Way” work outside for a living.
And I’m Not talking about strolling around a football field on occasion and breaking a light sweat here. I’m talking about REAL WORK… NOT a light workout in an ac’d and controlled environment with pleasurable drinks at your fingertips!
If you ever had a job that required “actually” working outside in a rotisserie environment like we have here, you wouldn’t have just embarrassed yourself with this article. It’s probably advisable to remove the article because it reveals your work environment and lack of understanding Far Too Clearly… That sounds nice, but there’s no evidence in recent Bucs history and Joe is only concerned with the football. it’s not exactly going to be grueling and extreme conditions tomorrow. Of course, Joe is not writing here about a roofer or a AC guy going into an attic when it’s 110 degrees up there. Or the landscaper logging 12 hours during the Tampa summer mowing season because he’s four days behind after a rainy week. –Joe
You have a very soft work environment and I got to say, I’m a bit jealous of your job verses mine but stick to your side of the road.

Oh, and I want to point out that if you find yourself in need of the type of service that requires someone to “take on” that rotisserie so that you don’t have to, show some appreciation and understanding for that poor bastard and give him or her a tip. Believe me, they “had to” EARN IT! They Clearly don’t have the wonderful job that you have.

    Humbly,
    A Fellow Bucs Fan

    GO BUCS!

    Repeat after me:
It’s NOT the heat, it’s the humidity.

It’s NOT the heat, it’s the humidity.

It’s NOT the heat, it’s the humidity.

  7. gp Says:

The weather is an advantage but pales in comparison to the advantage that cold weather teams have at home when hosting southern teams.
Also, it’s more of a “vacation” from the cold for them. Sometimes that “vacation” feel will translate into some sloppy play but I don’t expect that from this Bills team.

    Anonymous must be a caddie.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    I dunno.

In a ground-and-pound game, I do think the warm weather is an advantage for the warm-weather team.

Neither the Chefs or Vaxkings were ground-and-pound games. The Vikings ran the ball a lot and nearly doubled the Bucs’ time of possession.–Joe

  10. Steven007 Says:

I have long ago done away with the notion that the weather helps this team at all. It’s no different than the notion that the opposing team being injured will help us. Or that their clearly inferior quarterbacks will help us. It’s simply has never worked out for us. Bottom line is we have to play our game against the team we’re facing and outperform them. The so-called advantages have never been what they’ve been portrayed to be.

  11. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

I think it totally is an advantage.

  12. Bojim Says:

Anonymous. We get it. You work outside. 😁

  13. Listnfrmafar Says:

Once again BA & Anonymous rambling on about who knows what. Joe, who is our #1 corner??? It should be an interesting game. Any takers I’ll give you 10 to 1 odds Bucs first play from the line of scrimmage is Lenny up the middle?

  14. SB Says:

I am from St. Pete but live in Montana now.
Let me Assure you there is a Huge difference between 85 here and 85 in Tampa.

  15. Jay Bee Says:

321 Bucs , sidecar right, toe to leather, fire them cannons, moving right to left on your radio dial, say Hallelujah. Bucs win Bucs win BUCS WIN.

  16. BucTooth Says:

Mr. Listnfrmafar you stold my thunder i agree with you 100 percent first play by us on offense called by Leftwich of course is a run by Lenny up the gut for one yard or no gain you can bank on it i hope i’m wrong. Come on man.

  17. gp Says:

    Listnfrmafar
Just for fun, I’ll put a dollar on that.
If I win, deposit my winnings in the red kettle. I’ll do likewise.

  18. Roy T. Buford Says:

I remember September of 2010. The Steelers were coming to Tampa and the heat was in the mid 90s. What a big advantage this heat would be for the home team! And with Charlie Batch at quarterback the bucs got blown out. Yes, crazy talk.

  19. Kentucky Buc Says:

If you think humidity has no affect your nuts.
. Ninkovic on one of the talk shows yesterday said it was like he couldn’t draw a full breath when he played at Miami. Doesn’t mean it correlates to wins and losses but the big boys especially will struggle with it in the second half.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

gp, you’re on provided it doesn’t shut Joe’s site down easiest dollar I’ve ever made.

  21. crazybucs_CL Says:

    @”…It’s NOT the heat, it’s the humidity….”
    —————–
Is December FGS, is going to be great for both teams. Game start 4:25 PM and sunset is @ 5:34. Humidity around 60%
Did you watch last Monday game??where you rather play???!!!🥶

  22. gp Says:

    Listnfrmafar
I envision a sweep to the right with Godwin carrying and Lenny leading.
Cha-ching for the kettle and just a little good karma for the both of us!

  23. Cobraboy Says:

@Joe” the Vikes also practice and PLAY inside.

    Bills play outside.

  24. Sparky Says:

Don’t the bucs practice indoors now too? And yeah, you’d think the weather would have an effect but it just doesn’t seem to show up in the final score. The fact that the players stay so hydrated, and are really only going hard for 10 seconds at a time for 5 minute intervals and then they get a break helps too. How often do you really see an NFL player winded, other than if they just ran the length of the field? Maybe if we go up tempo, no huddle for the whole game, but thats just as likely to wear our guys out too.

  25. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

I believe it for sure matters in September and October when the humidity is super high… I grew up in St Pete but live in Tennessee now and I don’t think I could deal with that humidity anymore!! I’ve gotten used to heat without the air sweat!! Lol
