Richard Sherman, Justin Watson Enter 21-Day Return Window
December 8th, 2021The Bucs announced two players have entered a 21-day window to be added to the active roster.
And Joe is wondering if there is a hidden message here.
Richard Sherman, which Joe expected, was entered into this window. Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians noted earlier this week that he was going to have Sherman cross-train as a safety.
The other player that Joe is very surprised that is placed in this same 21-day window is receiver Justin Watson. Just Monday, Arians sounded as if Watson’s season was done short of injuries to receivers currently on the active roster.
Joe has two thoughts when it comes to Watson: Is Scotty Miller still messed up from his turf toe? On Sunday at Atlanta, Miller, who is used to stretch the field, logged four snaps. Breshad Perriman, who also is a stretch-the-field guy, had 59 snaps. Telling. (Thanks Sean Sullivan!)
So also there is this to ponder: Sherman is being cross-trained at safety. What positions does Mike Edwards play? Watson is a receiver who stretches the field. What position does furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing, fake V-card flashing Antonio Brown play?

I thought Brady was forever soured on Watson
December 8th, 2021 at 10:50 am
I think Joe is on to something. And I suspect Miller is still hurting somewhat.
December 8th, 2021 at 10:51 am
A body is a body, especially when that body knows the offense.
December 8th, 2021 at 10:54 am
Of course Bruce brought back Scotty Miller too early, that’s what Bruce does says Pete
December 8th, 2021 at 10:54 am
I seem to remember Watson being decent on Special Teams. The Bucs could use his help there.
December 8th, 2021 at 10:56 am
Maybe Brady doesn’t like Perriman, and Miller is still hurt. I don’t think they’re cutting Brown and Edwards. I think they’re looking for quality depth for the playoffs.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:00 am
Those are some interesting parallels Joe. Could be a stretch but you never know.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:02 am
LOL AB is not gettin cut and neither is Mike Edwards..

Joe in Michigan:
Good point. If memory serves, Watson led special teams last year in tackles.
Bucsfanman:
Transactions on Tuesday or Wednesday are usually a tip off to something coming down the pike. Often, though not always, it’s a clue someone is hurt and team is CYA’ing at that position in case that player cannot play on Sunday.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:04 am
Good point about special teams, Michigan Joe.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:08 am
If Perriman is so fast, why not try him on special teams? Love to see Sherman as safety.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:19 am
I said it before. The cross training of RS and now this seems like AB and Edwards might be cut or suspended for the rest of the year by the team.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:21 am
puff puff pass andrew. NO way that happens
December 8th, 2021 at 11:22 am
It could be. Now one of the Joe’s thinks Sherman is no longer a quality NFL corner. So perhaps Arians is trying to squeeze whatever juice is left in that orange and believes Sherman can have enough left to sometimes play safety?
It’s not uncommon for old corners to move to safety. Even Ronde Barber played some safety late in his career.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:29 am
A fresh legged Justin Watson may be just what Special Teams needs. With all the targets on offense (even without AB), I don’t see him playing much on O.
Then again, I thought Mike Williams and Josh Freeman were going to be Hall of Famers.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:38 am
It is well documented that AB followed some good advise and got the jab after brandishing the counterfeit v-card. Not sure if Edwards did the same. As far as I know this is only strike 1 for Edwards.
December 8th, 2021 at 11:56 am
Yeah Joe, I forgot about the suspensions. Too much Titos last night!
December 8th, 2021 at 12:11 pm
Has sherman really had to tackle his career. He is accustomed to shutting down half a field in his prime. I tried to find tackling highlights and they are all ints
Not sure him at safety is smart. Obviously would be more a free safety but you still have to tackle and hit. Especially after watching him in limited snaps this year , he appears slow
He is smart and a ballhawk but not sure this is wise idea.
December 8th, 2021 at 12:29 pm
agree with Pete… BA brings guys back too soon .. I think Devin White was NOT really needed against dixie chix…. now he’ll play ,still hampered by hip injury & mending quad pull ,against Bills at less than 100%…..He should have been rested last wk
December 8th, 2021 at 12:35 pm
joe, when did watson ever stretch a field..lol give me a break.. we need ab for the run. if we can run the football, we can take pressure off the whole wr group.
December 8th, 2021 at 12:47 pm
To even suggest releasing Edward’s or ab is moronic
December 8th, 2021 at 12:52 pm
Wow! How does Goff win player of the week over Brady and Godwin?
December 8th, 2021 at 12:59 pm
i never thought i’d hear of justin watson again…
i thought he was being phased out at this point as merely part of the back end of the receiver group with jameis…
it will really surprise me if he’s back on the roster…
but joe from michigan has a very good point…
he was def one of our top tier special teamers…like a top 5 guy…but not top 3
December 8th, 2021 at 1:37 pm
Maybe I’m wrong, but aren’t AB and Edwards already off the active roster right now while they are suspended?
It’s not like they would need new players to replace AB and Edwards because they have already been replaced. BP was signed to the active roster after the AB suspension. Carlton Davis was activated off IR to replace Edwards.
December 8th, 2021 at 1:56 pm
You wasn’t looking in the right place for RS tackling he played the run on his side as good as the pass
December 8th, 2021 at 1:57 pm
Yes and no. They are placed on a special list (would have to look at the name) where they are suspended.
December 8th, 2021 at 2:04 pm
John:
Name of the list Brown and Edwards are on is:
“Reserve/Suspended by Commissioner”

Watson is a very good Special Teamer. Our Special teams look bad. Maybe he can help. At worst he ends up on the practice squad as call up. Can’t hurt.
December 8th, 2021 at 2:32 pm
Never watched him run, eh?
December 8th, 2021 at 9:59 pm
What? Can we please just get rid of Watson already, he’s terrible, throwing to him leads to more interceptions than catches.
December 8th, 2021 at 10:23 pm
Watson was the leading tackler on special teams last year. Doesn’t mean Scotty turf toe is acting up but he’s a damn fine backup compared to Darden at the moment.
December 8th, 2021 at 10:30 pm
When did Watson ever stretch the field. He is just a little bit faster than My Grandma and she uses a walker. He is a good special teamer though
December 9th, 2021 at 12:07 am
Justin Watson is also member of a very exclusive club, “wide receivers with a credited sack”
