Joe’s appreciation of Ndamukong Suh grows weekly, a little more than usual today after the legendary defensive tackle sacked Matt Ryan twice.
It was the fifth and sixth sacks of the season for Suh, matching his 2020 total. More important, Suh is improving as this season marches on.
He is five seasons removed from his last trip to the Pro Bowl (2016 with the Dolphins), but Suh may be having his best season since he was a force on the 2018 Super Bowl Rams. Defensive tackles just don’t do this at 34 years old. Warren Sapp had 10 sacks at 34 with the Raiders, but Sapp was a one-of-a-kind Hall of Famer.
Suh is, too, Joe believes.
Suh has missed just two games in his storied career and has been an anchor on excellent defenses, and Joe is putting the Bucs’ stout run defense since 2019 in that mix.
Obviously, Suh is in a fantastic position playing alongside Vita Vea, but that doesn’t detract from his production.
During these historic Bucs times, Joe believes our beloved fans are watching future slam-dunk Hall of Famers in Suh, Rob Gronkowski, Mike Evans and Tom Brady — all at the top of their games.
For a little perspective, Suh now has 70 1/2 sacks, a huge number for a defensive tackle. Geno Atkins, also drafted in 2010 like Suh, was an eight-time Pro Bowler who racked up 75 1/2 sacks. He is out of football this season after 11 years with the Bengals.
Joe will be rooting hard for Suh to find his way to 10 sacks this season. That may mean the Bucs have to cough up more cash in the offseason, but it will be well deserved if he stays healthy and hungry to keep playing.

Suh is my daughter’s favorite player and I love the dude too. Having two all time great hall of famers at defensive tackle would be awesome. He definitely deserves a raise as well after Chris gets paid.

Agree 100% Joe. The only thing you didn’t mention the doesn’t show on Suh stats, how much he’s helped grow all the other lineman on the Bucs D. I think it’s a big reason for their success.

Suh is a consummate… pretty much everything, a fascinating story and I only know a little about him other than he and McCoy . He has an amazing off field story too.
VV had a happy day too… I’d love to see a clip put together with all the holding against VV that never gets called. The guy is just now understanding the game and how he can not only play but dominant

There is some poetic justice of sorts that Suh basically replaced McCoy. Nothing against McCoy…Suh is just preferred on so many levels. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is Suh’s last year/victory lap.

Robert: Evans is the only dude EVER to have 7 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in the entire history of the NFL, and he’s on his way to 8. And he did some of it with some BAD QB play.
And he’s still getting better.

Man what a day for the bucs defensive tackles. Nacho even got two no stat bad snaps from falcons center. Man what a difference Davis makes. He is a shut down corner. First game back after 8 games and he dropped 2 picks and had : other passes defensed.

Suh is still awesome but I don’t think you can say he’s at the top of his game.
I think he peaked a few year ago.

I think our Defensive Tackles are one of the most unheralded strengths of this team. I’m not saying THE biggest strength (O-Line, QB, WR, etc.), but Vita, Suh, Nacho, Big Stevie, etc. have not only been playing well this year (even dominant at times), but those DT’s spearhead this historic stretch of our League leading run-defense we’ve had the last few years.
We just don’t talk about them as much in terms of being a strength of this team as the other position groups of strength, nor is the position as glorified as others on the field….that’s why I say one of the “unheralded” strengths of this Team.

Munch, you must have a McCoy doll in your bedroom in your Mom’s house. You can’t compare McCoy and Suh, other than they were picked one man apart in the same draft.
Suh is 10 times the player McCoy ever thought of being.

Doosh-. Did you see some of Evans catches today? Dude makes acrobatic sideline catches look routine. No, he doesn’t yac, but he is ELITE at high pointing the ball, sideline catches, contested catches and red zone catches.

Anyone disrespecting Mike Evans is a fool. The reason Godwin catches more is he plays the slot. Mike is as tough an outside receiver as has ever played the game. Strong, rangy, deceptive speed, great hands. Great attitude. He is HOF.

Ive been trying to figure out where all this Evans hate comes from, other than dipsquats that worship AB. I think part of it is he makes it look so effortless…it never looks like he’s going hard, but he definitely is. And with TB, he’s generally not going to throw it to a covered receiver so ME is getting less of those jump balls like when Jameis would just heave it into double coverage. But, how many other HoF receivers never complained about not getting the ball enough? How many would have quietly shared the field with AB and Godwin?

Suh just seems to have a knack for making plays at critical times in the game.
His ability to play at a high level this late in his career is just one more feather in his cap.

ME’s humility and team first attitude is unequaled in the NFL. He always is giving credit to someone else in interviews. Appreciate that greatness is not always touting your play but instead encouraging and lifting up those around you. Let the stats speak for themselves! It is a great time to be a BUC fan and enjoy watching four (if not more) HOF players.
