Joe’s not sure former Bucs guard Ian Beckles (1990-1996) is a voice of reason when it comes to all things Bucs. But he certainly is a big voice unafraid to call it as he sees it.

On Antonio Brown getting busted for using a phony vaccine card to inaccurately prove his vaccination status to the Buccaneers, resulting in a three-game suspension, Beckles made it very clear yesterday what he thinks of Brown.
“He’s dumb. He’s dumb and he’s getting dumber,” Beckles said.
Brown’s actions, presumably falsifying a government document, didn’t surprise Beckles (or Joe), but Beckles termed them “miniscule” compared to the accusations leveled at Brown by women, as well as to his legal history and the video that circulated of his behavior in South Florida.
Therefore, per Beckles, cutting Brown for the phony V-Card makes no sense. It would feel like punishing a guy for shoplifting after he murdered someone and you accepted the latter, Beckles said. The Bucs knew Brown was a slime when they signed him, so you don’t release a guy for a minor crime after you were aware he had committed more egregious offenses.
Joe largely agrees with Beckles. The Bucs welcomed a guy with major issues and one who was accused of horrific acts. The phony V-card feels like a minor slip-up and one that should have been expected.
Yes, Bucco Bruce Arians said over a year ago that he would launch Brown if he screwed up. That very well may happen in two months — when there’s no chance that Brown can sign with a team that might beat the Bucs this season.

Aaron Rodgers was not suspended for this. Yes, I get it, AB is a repeat offender but what about Mike Edwards. From what I know Edwards has never had an offense… Doesn’t seem equal…

IMHO, the NFL has shown favoritism to Aaron Rodgers compared to Brown.
Why was Aaron Rodgers not suspended, and Brown and Edwards were ?

These are young healthy men- odds are overwhelming they’d achieve natural immunity without gene therapy shots. Then they’d be immune. Mr Beckles needs to put on his critical thinking cap and re-evaluate what is dumb.
Dumb rules were broken, the players have been punished, move on.
But keep worshipping the lying narrative.

Come on, people. Do not be stupid over this. If NFL teams (or your boss) cut people for doing dumb things, many would be out of a job. The guy remains a premier receiver and is needed for the playoffs.

I agree Alanbucsfan.
He deserves to be punished for lying, but the rule is dumb. If the company I work for had those rules we would lose over half of our employees.

Beckles has a solid point. The fact that he is vaccinated now mutes the fave V-card thing, it’s not hurting anyone else compared to his other foibles. Just stay calm, keep your heads down, and let’s see these guys back on the field for the final three games of the regular season. In Bucs uniforms.
Because they will damn sure be picked up by another team immediately. Like the Saints.

I trust that all JBFers know that the NFL does NOT have a vaccine mandate. They do however have different rules for the vaccinated & the unvaccinated in terms of team activities (like practices?) and that’s where the vax cards PROBABLY come into play. There’s still a lot we don’t seem to know about what REALLY went on and WHEN it all occurred.

Seriously are we expected to believe that the majority of these players that grew up under the jock umbrella NEVER did anything that could be construed as sexual harassment? And I am sure none of them except AB ever got angry and assaulted someone or possibly a woman or two or abused a child. Get off your high horses, the only thing legit in this entire article is AB is.either very stupid or just has bad luck. Give me a break with this public lynching.

To all that keep saying the rules are dumb, the players agreed to them. No excuses, no rationalizations, no dog ate my homework, you agreed, you follow.
Also, The players are not employees, they are independent contractors under a union that collectively bargained a contract with the NFL.
The players sign a contract willingly and knowingly with conditions and stipulations set out under the Union and the NFL. If they don’t like any part of it, they are free to go play in Canada.
The players made a commitment and some broke it, case closed.

It doesn’t make sense for brown to appeal. He is going to miss the next two games with that ankle anyway, if this drags out in appeal he Moses two games with an ankle then probably still gets the 3 game suspension right in time for the playoffs. Better they let it go and take the suspension now and be available for week 16,17, and the playoffs. We aren’t likely to have any trouble winning the division without them.

Anonymous is correct. That’s why neither AB nor Edwards will appeal this suspension. It would only drag the process our further, potentially taking them out for at least one more game. In AB’s case, it would be pointless as he’s obviously missing the next two games anyway.
