Manhood Challenged; Manhood Reinforced
December 2nd, 2021The way Bucs defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh talked yesterday, the Bucs defense may have been dissed by just about everyone outside of One Buc Palace.
All last week the chatter everywhere was, “What will Jonathan Taylor do? How many touchdowns will he score? Can the Bucs keep him from hitting 150 yards?”
It was almost like someone forgot to say, “Um, when is the last time you saw any back run on the Bucs?’
The run defense, as Suh said, was ready.
“It was a great challenge for us up front,” Suh said. “The front seven for the most part – outside of that drive that you mentioned – we did our job.”
Suh seemed to suggest it isn’t about what other teams do, it isn’t about your big-name running back or what he may have done before you play the Bucs. It’s about what he won’t do on the Bucs defense.
“I think when it really comes down to it, it’s not so much about what other teams do against us, it’s about how we go and execute,” Suh said. “During that drive, we made a lot of mistakes and they took advantage of them and that’s what offenses do.”
The mistakes didn’t last long.
Sunday was yet another episode of a near three-year NFL soap opera known as “Thou Shalt Not Run On The Bucs.”

Bucs needed 5 turnovers to barely win. They’re still playing with fire. Every game is stressful to watch

Pete then don’t watch

I still say we haven’t really seen our defense.
Week 1 & 2 in the nfl are not telling.
Our secondary was already trashed by week 2.
So maybe we get to see the real D by week 15?
We’ve seen our real O & its bonkers…if both get healthy at the same time look out.

As BA explained, Taylor began to have success when we went into prevent defense mode, which I hate by the way. We were in max pass protect posture, which opened things up for their running game. The first 3 quarters really tell the story of the Buc’s running defense.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:33 am
I don’t see anything he said that was inaccurate.
We needed 5 TO to eek out a win and I’m thrilled to have won but you have to acknowledge that the D has not been great this year. Clean it up or get bounced.

It would help too if the offense sustained some drives. It’s complementary football. No ONE aspect should be expected to perform better than the next, especially if each play well.
That said, I’m glad these guys take it personally. That shows that they have pride in what they do. Players are returning and the secondary WILL improve.

All due respect, we are always in prevent defense and they only attempted 8 rushes through three quarters, because they were torching us and our “prevent”.
Which is largely why we’ve been so good against the run, everybody passes on us.. no need to run. Stats can be deceiving.

JT looked dangerous. Even with 5 TO’s they could have beaten us if they stuck with the running game. Probably would not have been 5 TO’s either if they did.

Yup

This is the modern day NFL. So which teams defense really scares you? Football outsiders ranks the Buccaneers as the 6th best defense in the league. Does Kansas city’s defense scare you? Does Green Bay’s defense scare you? Does Buffalo’s defense which was pounded by Indianapolis scare you? The truth is the offenses are more sophisticated than ever in the NFL. And blowouts are becoming rare. The Buccaneers have been playing cornerbacks that wouldn’t start for any other team. That is not the management’s fault. That’s the salary cap and injuries!
December 2nd, 2021 at 9:16 am
The only time teams can run on us is when we are playing the pass….
We need to focus on Patterson & PItts vs Falcons……they won’t run on us.
December 2nd, 2021 at 9:21 am
Robert, I Indy stuck to the run, that game would if been a Bucs blowout. Taylor was getting stuffed like a Thanksgiving day turkey. It wasn’t until Wentz started throwing Indy scored. What they didn’t do was go back to the run once they had the lead. Trying to stay in a shoot out with the #1 offense was a huge mistake by Reich and my guess is he didn’t sleep to well Sunday night. Stop with backup CB excuses, it’s been 10 weeks, figure it out they are Pros. Are the Bucs the only team that has lost DB’s? The Bill’s just lost their pro Bowl corner, does that mean Bucs will have their way with the Bill’s D? Maybe but that’s football. Dallas lost Lamb & Cooper far more game changing.

On one drive. Reason Indy went pass-happy is they couldn’t move the ball on the Bucs. And Reich knew Bucs secondary was a sieve once they had to use backups.

What alternate universe are some of you from, where could’ve/would’ve/should’ve means jack sh!t?

They won. They stop the run and they create turnovers, that is their defense. Their average at best against the pass. That is who they are until all the DB’s are healthy.
Not sure why it’s so hard for some people to grasp that concept, mainly some drugged up little boys who post constantly and never have a good thing to say. They remain nameless because the best thing all of you can do is ignore him

David, the verdict on Sherman is still out, Bucs don’t know if he can still be an impact player or not he hasn’t had the chance to get into game shape. Do you really believe when the starters come back the results will substantially change? Sure they’ll be better but substantially? Go back to Dallas game, Daks first game back off the couch and D shut down the run, the results of that game pretty much mirrored Indy game and Bucs starting DB’s played.

Manhood? Really? Have you been listening to cult member Josh Hawley?
December 2nd, 2021 at 10:43 am
If this team was perfect then none of us would have a reason to complain about but there are always some who would because they have their personal agendas for or against individual players. Quite a few up here hated our last qb and absolutely refused to give him props when he did well because of all the bad he did, they hated him for the man he was and we got a couple now who refuse to give Brady his props even though he is the #1 reason we have a SB title and are sitting at 8-3 because of their love of former #3. Anyone who’s been a Bucs fan for 20 or more years has seen everything a franchise can do to lose games. We have known more pain and misery as fans of the worst franchise in all of professional sports than joy, we have seen it all and felt it all. So you NOOBS who come up here telling us we’re not supposed to say anything negative about OUR Bucs please why don’t you go move to a facist country where they get to control how others think because you’re not going to control us. We love OUR Bucs as much as you so called “true fans” do so kill your noise. We still want to get that 3rd team title this year as much as you do. We are realistic because this offense has to score 35 points every game to even give us confidence that we will win because of our defense and STs are struggling and this Colts game just proved that.

What he said Oneilbucyall!
December 2nd, 2021 at 11:33 am
Is complaining and saying things like “If the Chiefs had their starting Tackles, they would’ve KILLED the Bucs” the same thing? Since the Chiefs didn’t have them and didn’t kill the Bucs, what’s the point of even bringing it up? The Colts did what they did, the Bucs beat them, so why play the coulda/woulda game?
December 2nd, 2021 at 12:38 pm
I don’t think it’s complaining to point out that Reich out clevered himself, he nearly pulled it off anyway.
I think I just miss the old NFL, and don’t like the arena ball nearly as much. Hard to have seen the great defenses we’ve had here, and try and compare to the current state of defense in the NFL.
I’ve pretty much given up on the “ when we get healthy” thing, as so many drop every week. So many more injuries nowadays, when the game is so much softer.
December 2nd, 2021 at 1:26 pm
One thing I’ve noticed. When Suh is chasing a player, they suddenly run faster.
December 2nd, 2021 at 1:28 pm
Jmarkbuc: I agree with you on missing the NFL when the defense had a fair chance.
December 2nd, 2021 at 3:27 pm
Well, this certainly contradicts Arians claiming that they were just playing pass defense on that drive and that’s why they gave up all the rushing yards.
Unless the mistakes Suh is referring to were the defensive play calls…

Pete should still watch. He just needs to up his meds.
