Ali Marpet Update
November 22nd, 2021Ali Marpet was lost in the first half of Monday night’s game with an oblique injury. Joe’s heart sank.
Joe knows for a baseball player, that’s usually a month-long injury. But to hear Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game, Marpet may not miss much time, if any.
Arians said Marpet was “walking around good.” Joe has no idea what kind of test that is for an lineman with an oblique injury but Joe will trust Arians is plugged in.
“We have our fingers crossed he will be able to go next week,” Arians said.
That doesn’t sound awfully bad. It’s a good thing the Bucs have Aaron Stinnie ready to go. The guard started three postseason games including the Super Bowl last year when Alex Cappa was lost for the year in the Washington game. You barely knew Cappa wasn’t playing.
Same thing happened tonight. When Marpet went out, you barely knew he was out because Stinnie played so well.
Joe is guessing there will be an update tomorrow when Arians has his day-after presser.

Also Impressive that Stinnie can play either side so well right off the pine!

Stinnie is so valuable. Nice job stepping up again.

Stinnie played tough. O did not suffer at all.

Such a luxury to have a guy like Stinnie. You can say Licht may make some misses elsewhere, but he’s got a pretty good eye for OL.

Praying for Ali.

Aaron Stinnie has played himself into a salary increase.

OMG give the guy a week or two off crying out loud what do they do strap him up with some tape and send him out?

Man one good thing is if Jensen leaves as a free agent then between calls, stinnie, marpet we are still good on the interior. Definitely nice to have such a solid backup if anyone goes down though

I was surprised on TV that they said Vita wanted to go tonight. The Bucs will need him vs the Colts, so hopefully he’s good to go, as well as Marpet.

Who is this Ali Marpet? Get well soon or you may ride the pine. Stinnie wants the job.

stinnie is basically a starter standing on the sidelines at this point…
he can really play

Stinnie is a steam roller man! He’s trucking dudes out there!

Stinnie could probably start on a lot of NFL teams right now. Thank God we have him otherwise we may have never made it to the SuperBowl. With that said Chemistry is a huge thing for offensive lines. When you have five guys that have played together at a high level for two years now that is hard to beat. Love Stinnie but we need Marpet back soon.

Stinnie is our best offensive backup. He would be starting on most teams.

Obliques are far more important to athletes that throw and twist than a football player. This is why it is a longer injury for a baseball player.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:07 am
Oblique tears are more common among baseball players. I never experienced one, but I know they’re quite painful. Even a grade 1 will take you out of a game, so that isn’t a sign of the severity.
Grade 1 oblique will probably take him out until mid to late December.
Grade 2, that’s where it gets scary. If we’re lucky we’ll see him very late regular season (think January) to sometime during the playoffs. If we’re not lucky, you won’t see him in uniform until next season.
Those are just guesses. I’d like to see what that sports doc has to say, he’s usually on target.
Glad Stinnie is still here, he’s proven himself as a good backup IOL.

One quick note: To my knowledge, obliques describe a muscle group, lots of small muscles firing together. As with all small muscle group injuries, you don’t want to hurry him back, as that can seriously aggravate the muscle group and make it much worse.

Stinnie did a great job. Don’t let him get away Licht, Also Jensen very valuable. Needs to be resigned. Did Stinnie make the most impressive list. Should have.

Hope to see Ali back ASAP! The Giants pass rush was basically non-existent for the whole game. Brady had time to read a novel on most plays.

Stinnie is a stud. Not even sure why he’s a backup in Tampa. Should have cashed in on starting the Super Bowl.
