“They Didn’t Want To Work”
April 23rd, 2010One of the things the Bucs are trying to acquire is good character guys.
So far, their first three picks have character. If nothing else, they were all captains for their teams, which says a lot.
Speaking to Joe’s good friend Justin Pawlowski and Joe himself live on WHNZ-AM 1250 Friday night, Bucs new second round pick Arrelious Benn, a wide receiver out of Illinois, made a major impression upon Joe when he talked about how his college teammates sometimes bummed him out.
“I’m not trying to throw anyone under the bus but not everyone wanted to put the work in,” Benn said. “They didn’t want to work.”
Wow. That may make headlines in central Illinois.
When Joe asked Benn what he needed to work on, he laughed and said, “Everything.”
Joe loved his reasoning.
“I need to work on my route running,” Benn said. “I need to work on catching the ball. I want to be around for quite a few years.”
Benn told Joe that the things the Bucs liked about him was that he can stretch the field and that Benn was told by Bucs officials, “We need receivers.”
Glad someone at One Buc Palace reads Joe.

Tate and Willams are still around…and I like Benn.
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Ok, I like the pick. Let’s follow up with another WR maybe williams. That would bring major competition to our 2 biggest weakness (DT and WR). I like Shipley and maybe even Brisco too. Let’s get it done!!
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:18 pm
scratch tate..
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:19 pm
Were the Bucs ever high on Tate?
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:21 pm
I would love Shipley in the third. Come on Freeman said he would love to throw to this guy. Get it done.
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:25 pm
seven touchdowns in three years and only two last year?
uh oh……………

Eric:
Look who was his quarterback, a two-bit Mike Vick wannabe sans dogs.
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:35 pm
Gave up a fifth-round to move up three spots and select Benn with the No. 39 overall pick. So basically a fifth-round pick is worth three spots in the draft, but not Santonio Holmes or Ted Ginn or Sims.
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:36 pm
He had no reAL Qb, I mean really horrible QB play
April 23rd, 2010 at 8:41 pm
I thought good drafters went off actual production. So we have to guess how productive this guy would have been if he had a different QB?
Very suspect pick IMO.
BTW we could have had Holmes and half of Marshall…………..instead.

Good point , Ed.
My god , we’re stupid.
It’s official , DUmbinik has f*cked it up again…
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:06 pm
Benn is boom or Bust I saw him play his three years at illinos but he was extemley inconsitent his freshamn year he looked all world then had good sophmore year then a horriable Junior year 29 catches ooch shipley and Williams still on baord we still need a pass rusher too
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Joe, you said that you wouldnt be happy unless we came out of the 2cd round with 2 receivers at minimum. Now you seem to be fine with just 1? can you explain why the sudden change of heart or is it some sort of smokescreen that dominik has you under????
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
I’m so pissed off right now I could punch a hole in my computer screen.
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:15 pm
Saw him play against several Big 10 teams. He kind of looked like Clayton the way passes just bounced away from him…
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:25 pm
All the other good WR’s are already off the board, exceot Shipley , and he’ll be gone any minute….Looks like the only help Freeman is getting is Benn.
Thanks Bucs. Freakin morons ….
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Get rid of some of our 7th rounders to get more 3rd and 4th round picks! We need them!!
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:39 pm
wow what happened this guy is not the answer the scouting team is terrible.Tate could have filled a ton of voids
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:42 pm
Day number two is a bummer IMO.
April 23rd, 2010 at 9:45 pm
wow so yesterday we all screaming for wr’s now we get one and its not good enough??? its sick listening to some people! i agree tate was better imo but it is what it is…benn will make a difference!

joey mauro:
Joe still wants receivers. Badly. One of the receivers Joe wanted was Benn. Done deal.
Joe really believes these two monster tackles — Price may just play defensive end — quickly makes the Bucs a potential monster of a defensive line.
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:05 pm
I think Mr. White had some recent comments on the viability of moving guys around on the D-line. Id like to hear his take at some point about moving Price to DE.
Im sure he will enlighten us at some point.
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:06 pm
The only stupid thing the Bucs did was trade a 5th to move 3 spots for Ben??? Really? Were they that afraid that he was going to get picked? I mean they could have easy traded a 7th or 2… But a 5th?
Al Davis is laughing his ass off.
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:11 pm
@Fatsacks
Dexter Jackson was a receiver too. What we all wanted was a GOOD receiver.
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:42 pm
So, why did the Bucs trade that 5th rounder? Charity?
April 24th, 2010 at 7:00 am
Ok then, makes perfect sense…I appreciate you writing back with your honesty on this topic. Keep up the good work joe. Now lets get a receiver in 3 hours!!!! lol..
April 24th, 2010 at 7:32 am
Draft One more good recevier and Clayton is almost for sure gone by the first os september. I really Belive it will be Benn Stovall, Stroughter,Brown, and hopefully Gillard or antoher recevier
April 25th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Benn is very impressive, especially after he catches the ball. He runs with determination and attitude. This man is dangerous, watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOEqkXIzZFM
