Bruce Arians Is Pretty Confident Bucs Thought They Had A Win In The Bag
November 15th, 2021There is a difference between confident and cocky. Being cocky can get your tail kicked.
That seems to be what happened to the Bucs yesterday. Joe has detailed that Buccaneers Radio Network analyst Dave Moore said the body language of the Bucs prior to the game was one of a team thinking it had a win just by showing up.
Moore added his fears were realized head-up-their-tails play early in the game. The Bucs never really recovered.
In his day-after presser, Arians, while not mentioning Moore (Arians was too busy yesterday to listen to the Bucs’ radio call), echoed Moore’s observations.
“I think, you know, when we practiced as well as we did last week, I think they assumed they were just going to go out and play good,” Arians said. “And that is something we will address.
“Just because you have a great week of practice — you have to show up on Sunday.”
This is very hard to believe when the team is full of veterans like Tom Brady, Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul, Shaq Barrett and Richard Sherman, all of whom who have played in multiple Super Bowls.
One guy who didn’t show up with his head in the clouds, Arians said, was inside linebacker Devin White. Arians couldn’t praise White enough.
“If everybody played with a passion and energy that Devin played with, we wouldn’t have any problems,” he said.
“He should have been Player of the Week with the game that he just had and the way he played the game. We will use that as an example of everyone to play with.”
Hopefully, this will be a costly lesson that won’t repeat itself. But dang, it’s really a stretch for Joe to believe the team as a whole, with so many veterans, would be this undisciplined and sloppy.
It really smells like there is something else going on behind the scenes — Joe’s sheer speculation — because something isn’t right on the surface.

Bucs need to cut a major player to shake things up (JPP) & Bruce needs to check into rehab says Pete
November 15th, 2021 at 2:05 pm
When you are a coach and make this kind of statements (and I agree with him) you have to take under consideration that some veteran players can get pissed….I am an old school kind of guy….but today players have even more power than coaches…..And your locker room can react……Hope it doesn’t happen….
November 15th, 2021 at 2:10 pm
Sounds like a coaching failure to me.
November 15th, 2021 at 2:16 pm
they have been reading too much of their own hype and have lost the edge.
they gotta get that eye of the tiger back!. Where is Adrian when you need her.
November 15th, 2021 at 2:17 pm
something is/was not right. Brady had this look of, lets hurry up and get this game over with. He was very unenthusiastic. Shut down JPP for a while, maybe even the year. He is playing in pain. And while that laudable, it serves no purpose.
Defense better start kicking in. Because as you witnessed yesterday, Brady is not going to have a great game every game. Somebody else is going to have to save the day. Our D could not get off the field and probably secured yet another unknow QB a future deal. Ruck up Bucs. Nobody feels sorry for you. The rest of the NFl delights in your misery. Giants are ah comin.
November 15th, 2021 at 2:26 pm
Not buying that the winning veterans are doing this possibly the younger guys think the sun shines up their arses. Could be respect issues in the locker room? Isn’t that what coaches are supposed to manage? Maybe if the head coach went to meetings or his staff stayed late they could, I don’t know get more work done? Just saying. Where the head goes the arse follows.
November 15th, 2021 at 2:29 pm
We have people starting in the secondary who normally wouldn’t qualify for our practice squad
November 15th, 2021 at 2:29 pm
Something is up…. Post the Patriots game, the team has only been dominant in two games (CHI and MIA). Brady hasn’t been quite the same either. Maybe Belichick put a curse on him during their secret meeting… Who knows, but I do think there has to be some sort of issue behind the scenes.
November 15th, 2021 at 2:33 pm
in before Ben Green quotes his imaginary sources to tell us what the problem is.
November 15th, 2021 at 2:36 pm
“Player of the week”? LOL
For what? Getting roasted in coverage?
November 15th, 2021 at 2:49 pm
Second time I agree with Pete today (at least mostly) although I also agree with beeej that some of it does come down to your weakest link and you can only hide it so long. I’d at least consider sitting a guy who consistently has dumb penalties or loafs even if it hurts the team short term. Patriots are known for doing this. No one player is greater than the team. Anyone remember when we cut Hargreaves and the effector had on the rest of the secondary?
November 15th, 2021 at 2:54 pm
The D has been mostly mediocre all year…it’s the O and #12s play over the past two weeks that’s really cause for alarm.
November 15th, 2021 at 3:02 pm
‘It really smells like there is something else going on behind the scenes — Joe’s sheer speculation — because something isn’t right on the surface.’
I have the same gut feeling Joe. No concrete reason why, but guys just aren’t making the big plays this year. They’re not rising up and grabbing the bull by the … oh ya, horns. Something’s off.
November 15th, 2021 at 3:15 pm
Joe ” It really smells like there is something else is going behind the scenes”. I said the same thing this morning on a facebook post and got roasted. I responded we will see. If they play like crap against the Giants its bound to come out.
November 15th, 2021 at 3:23 pm
During warm ups Devin was only one smiling pumping people up!! Even signed tons of autographs!!! It did seem the energy was way off with Brady & co prior to game…
November 15th, 2021 at 3:31 pm
The players are sleepwalking through the season.
This is a good time to play young guys more then vets.
November 15th, 2021 at 3:32 pm
Something isn’t right, the game smacked of poor preparation and poor discipline. I realize this is blasphemous, but I’m getting the vibe that Arians is in the process of losing this team.
November 15th, 2021 at 3:33 pm
joe sniff it out…that’s your job man…
come back with the scoop – be the man…

I’m thinking we’ll need a post for the top 25 most ridiculous theories behind what this supposed actual issue (other than flat not playing well) is.
I will be checking often for some good reading!
November 15th, 2021 at 3:50 pm
If BA or BL pissed Brady off, this season OVA! Wouldn’t doubt it, the old blow hard doesn’t know how to shut up.
November 15th, 2021 at 3:59 pm
I can’t believe that TB12 is tolerating this BS! He should be kicking ass and taking names in that locker room. Total BS that these players feel entitled to take liberties on game day; something has to change and change quickly.
Let’s Go Brandon!!!
Peace, out
November 15th, 2021 at 4:18 pm
Even Stevie Wonder Ray Charles & Helen Keller could see that they sucked in that game. That was pathetic. Brady should be laying into this team by now. They need to have a players only meeting at some point & try to figure things out again.
November 15th, 2021 at 4:18 pm
unbelievable- Go re-watch that 4th down play that Gibson walked in on in the game-sealing drive.
JPP signals to White that he needs to play outside. White was inside JPP. JPP is waving his arms! White remains inside, the ball goes outside for an easy score. Afterwards, you can see LVD turn to look for White like “where were you?”
It’s one little play (game-changer), but an example of a player doing their own thing.
Stats mean nothing if you lose. They played undisciplined and it cost them.
November 15th, 2021 at 4:21 pm
I think Arians also needs to get back into the details more. From all his comments he’s semi retired again already…
November 15th, 2021 at 4:32 pm
Bad week to premier ‘Man In the Arena’…
November 15th, 2021 at 4:43 pm
I think I figured it out. BA is able to not take responsibility for the shenanigans that is going on because he doesn’t take any credit for anything (or so he says). Now I like him, he’s a straight shooter, at the same time, he’s the head coach and something is up with the players, he needs to step up and correct it. The coordinators are doing their thing, the players were policing themselves, but something is off.
I hope we can get it together, based off last year, we hit our slump, hopefully we can get out of it. The hunger definitely doesn’t appear to be there as much, and I get there are injuries. I saw a highlight and I don’t know why we have JPP out there as much. He did one move and stopped. I don’t know what the answer is, but the Giants absolutely have to be destroyed next week. It’s a home game, so we should be fine. Seems a big issue is us on the road.
November 15th, 2021 at 4:47 pm
BA said in the presser that the reason for check downs was that hit Brady took early in the game.
“You have to protect the quarterback otherwise he will get rid of the ball quick”
Taking a hit like that at 44 ain’t no joke. I hope he’s not dealing with fractured ribs or punctured lung like Drew Brees was last year.
November 15th, 2021 at 4:52 pm
I’m starting to think Uncle Bruce, is not getting his team ready to play. Saying stuff like this.
Any NFL team, can beat any other team, come Sunday.
What he said, falls squarely on the Head Coach.
November 15th, 2021 at 4:53 pm
Watching NFL live they were analyzing what’s wrong with Bucs, first defense they said why is Vea and Shaq dropping back is pass coverage? They should moving forward especially Vea. They said balls dropped that shod be ints. Host asked should they be concerned about Brady, the answer was no, too many dropped balls, ints that shouldn’t be on him and penalties. Sounds like a coaching problem to me.
November 15th, 2021 at 4:58 pm
From what I’ve gathered, Uncle Bruce didn’t have his team ready to play.
November 15th, 2021 at 5:09 pm
So uh, yesterday I was feeling a bit lazy and tired. I skipped all my pregame superstitions, nor did I do my halftime superstitions.
I was weak!! I said to myself, “That ish ain’t real. Superstitions don’t work.”
I’m sorry.
November 15th, 2021 at 5:20 pm
Who was calling the check downs??? Brady or Byron??? Why didn’t Brady take over long before our longest 40 yard play??? HOW CAN YOU MAKE A WINNING ASSUMPTION WITH THIS BUCS DEFENSE AND A QB THAT ALMOST KNOCKED US OUT OF THE WILD CARD WITH A HEALTHY TEAM???!!!
November 15th, 2021 at 5:36 pm
Something must have happened prior to the game….time will tell. There was zero intensity. The first three plays were the same as the prior game. There is internal issues that this cadre of reporters haven’t yet to expose. Brady is the thermometer…he was cold as ice. There is dissension or alcohol/drug abuse, family issues, something deep and distracting that has infected this team. It’s way more than terrible DBs. They were awful at the beginning of the season but Brady easily won those games. It’s a different feel now. It will come out.
November 15th, 2021 at 5:38 pm
Should have reviewed my preseason predication chart, where I’m 100% on picking Bucs games, and they’d have known they would lose that game. No idea how you go on the road, against a team that gave you a hard time in the playoffs, and think you’re going to easily win it. Anyone with any common sense knows that yesterday was the Redskins Super Bowl, and yet the Bucs approached it like a preseason game. You’re going to lose 100% of the time in that situation.
BTW coach, that preseason picks chart, where I’m 100% correct, has you losing to the Giants. I’d really really like to be wrong (although that’s also the last game they lose this season on my chart, so I’m not worried about the Giants loss if I get everything else correct).
November 15th, 2021 at 5:45 pm
It really smells like there is something else going on behind the scenes — Joe’s sheer speculation — because something isn’t right on the surface.
I know Joe there is something weird going on with the Bucs, It seems like a melt down.. Hope not..
November 15th, 2021 at 5:50 pm
Maybe Brady does not like playing old time Buccaneer Football?
November 15th, 2021 at 6:00 pm
That’s the way I’ve been feeling lately Joe.
November 15th, 2021 at 6:02 pm
SOEBucs, you mean the guy that brought a rat infested locker room and wannabe coaching staff to the SB? Did it ever occur to you that the WR’s were not open when he wanted to release rhe ball and all he had was a check down? Or maybe if Gio catches that ball on the 3 yard line he scores? Or maybe, just maybe D doesn’t let Washington hold the ball the entire 4th qtr and gives Brady a chance to win the game. How about Darden shatting himself and causing an int.
November 15th, 2021 at 6:04 pm
Yadda Yadda Yadda… move on . Org Bucs Fans…
Agree with NPR…
LET’S GO BRANDON! 😆
November 15th, 2021 at 6:16 pm
Brady is hurt. Plain and simple
November 15th, 2021 at 6:23 pm
Second time in 2 years you bad mouth Brady…hope he retires and then see what happens!
November 15th, 2021 at 6:43 pm
@BFM – Yes I remember that play clearly!
Just one of many examples. Between missed assignments and missed tackles… well, it was just embarrassing.
November 15th, 2021 at 6:43 pm
During Tom’s interview the guy made sure he repeated BAs comments about the team being “dumb”. You’ll notice Tom asked him to repeat it, answered, and ended the interview. I’m sure he was thinking I’ll shut all this down, I’m Alvin and y’all are the chimpmunks! Don’t get to cocky BA or you’ll be frying fish tomorrow. Tom has been saving their butts all season and y’all can’t even protect him! Smdh
November 15th, 2021 at 8:25 pm
B.S. excuse. Do your fuking job!
November 15th, 2021 at 8:43 pm
Hopefully we get somebody to replace Donovan Smith (draft or FA), draft at least one maybe two CBs, another DE, another DT, another S, maybe another LB & depending on whatever happens at TE. They definitely need to go out in FA & sign at least one FA CB & they were crazy for not trading for one. They should’ve.
November 15th, 2021 at 9:08 pm
Unless the Bucs suits and coaches have had a massive change of heart, Donovan Smith is more likely to get a contract extension than he is of being replaced.
November 15th, 2021 at 11:29 pm
Don has been solid this year and was most of last year. Don’t create holes that aren’t there. We have enough aging guys to replace as well as depth at corner
