Has Tom Brady Lost Some Influence?

November 14th, 2021

Did the Bucs offense look hungry to you today?

Perhaps hungry to get home and relax.

The Bucs had won 14 of their last 16 before today, with both losses somewhat understandable/excusable. That’s ancient history now after absorbing a pounding by Washington this afternoon — WASHINGTON!!

Joe has to wonder if Tom Brady’s influence and positive stranglehold over the team deserves to be put under a microscope. Has it loosened? The offense shouldn’t have struggled like this against a depleted Washington defense.

Why did the Bucs look so disinterested compared to their usual game under Brady? Where was the mauling Bucs offensive line seen so many tines early this season?

Where were the sideline shots of Brady trying to jack everyone up? Perhaps that did come from Brady because he wasn’t playing well himself.

Just 14 first downs and 20 minutes time of possession? Are the tight ends that bad?

Heck, the game opened with a false start by the Bucs, something they worked on all through the bye.

The Bucs offense was outcoached and outworked. It’s a bad look, and a very rare look with Brady in command.

    Yes.

  2. Mike in Missouri Says:

    OJ Howard? MIA. Done.

  3. Gbobucsfan Says:

Sorry, I was distracted by another checkdown.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Brady looked really old out there

But Byron Suckwich called bad offensive plays today…..period!!!!

  5. Wild Bill Says:

Stick a fork in it. The party is over.

  6. ModHairKen Says:

These players partied for two weeks. Washington did not. The DBs are pathetic. These guys quit. They absolutely quit. The Defense is filled with a lot of big names who are too afraid to hold each other accountable. I’m a big critic of Sapp, but he’d never ever let this go on.

JPP is a physical wreck. 54 looked slow. Missed tackles. And Dean, Desir and Delaney are all terrible players with no pride.

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    CHECKDOWN BRADY

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t think fans truly understand how hard it is to repeat. We are getting the very best from the worse teams in the NFl. Let this be our wakeup call or not?
And Riverboat Ron outcoached our golf carting Arians. They deserved to win. We got our A’s handed to us bigtime.

  9. FlumundaCheese Says:

What about the defense? They look hungry?

  10. Miller5252 Says:

After that first hit Brady took today, he really didn’t want routes to develop and wanted to do the Pats check down offense. I think it’s time for Evans to start demanding the ball. Against a team like this he should be beating them or a back shoulder all day. Crappy coaches effort today. 2 weeks to prepare for a 2 win team and we get embarrassed!!!

  11. heyitsadam Says:

Well when Mike Evans returns the offense will be fine.

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

OJ Howard is a 1st rd bust

Just Like DE Joe Tryon will be in the next year

  13. GBUCin MD Says:

coaching is horrendous…every team has injuries so that’s not a valid excuse.. this team will be extremely lucky to make playoffs

  14. EA Says:

Shots down field also draw PI calls, very surprised at this offense today, something doesn’t smell right here

  15. captivajim Says:

brady has lost the fire in the belly…

  16. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Yeah………..something is rotten on the defense right now

Oh Yeah……..that’s all the third-stringers we have playing on defense in the secondary…………lol

  17. WalkdaPlank Says:

Mike Glennon was wearing #12 for the Bucs today

  18. unbelievable Says:

    It’s simple: THEY ARE SOFT

They got high on their press clippings after having a super lucky path to the Suoer Bowl and it shows.

It is what it is. At least we have last year. Cuz this year they are pathetic.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

    Did you watch the game?

The Bucs didn’t lose because of the offense.

They lost because they are having to play a 7th string corner who gave up 2 TDs on defense. They lost because the corners kept giving up plays and the defense couldn’t get off the field.

They lost because of injuries on defense. Those are, in fact, a big deal. You can’t have scrubs playing at corner and expect to win. Bowles needs to all-out blitz and get that defense off the field, either by giving up quick scores or getting turnovers. But to gutlessly sit back, let the other team pick you apart on that last drive, that’s just pure cowardness.

  20. Miller5252 Says:

You’re going pretty easy on them Joe…. I’m waiting for the story that talks about 19 plays 80 yards and 10:24 taken off the clock on Bowles D.

  21. Jimmy Vegas Says:

I still think not having AB and Gronk hurts the Bucs offense. Big-Time.
It allowed double coverage on Evans. Godwin was not 100% And the Bucs offense looks predictable…

  22. Waterboy Says:

Missed tackles that extended drives early on in the game were huge too. Not to mention letting Heinicke run 11 mins off the clock in the 4th quarter and then punch it in for a TD to close it out.

  23. richbucsfan Says:

There’s stuff going on behind the scenes we know nothing about. Their play indicates internal team problems. TE’s? Brate? OJ? They are the absolute last thought in Brady’s mind. Very poor performance as we all saw. Next week will be interesting. A divided team can’t win. Remember Brady’s comments about players on defense…dogs chasing cars… It may have come back to bite him…

  24. Rod Munch Says:

Maybe he’s mad that the team has trash like Darden out there bouncing the ball in the air for INTs while the coach is saying we don’t need more good players like OBJ.

  25. BucsFan81 Says:

They are done. In all honesty they look old and beat up. The injuries are stacking up by the week. You are looking at a wild card team at best and that might be a stretch depending on who else gets injured.

  26. WhereisBucsDef? Says:

Sure, some blame on Brady/Off but past two games defense has let the team down when it was needed the most. 10m drive from the worst offense in the league….oooofff.

  27. unbelievable Says:

    Lol Rod.
    Give it up.

They absolutely lost because of the the offense. That’s what multiple turnovers will do. Scoring 2 touchdowns against a 2-6 team is PATHETIC!!!!

They also lost because of the defense.

They sucked on both sides. They are pretenders. Nothing more.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs fall to the #4 seed, thankfully for us the Saints and Falcons lost.

Can you imagine that, saying thankfully the Falcons lost. LOL!

  29. Rich 12 Says:

Tom just doesn’t look like himself..the past two games he looks uninterested..maybe this year he retires..I certainly hope not.

  30. sadbucsfan Says:

How much is Shaq Barrett getting paid? Was he even on the stat sheet today?

    Lol Rod.
    Give it up.

They absolutely lost because of the the offense.

    ———–

Uh, the Bucs get the TD to Evans with nearly 11 mins left in the game. 11 MINUTES. They didn’t get the ball again until there were 29 seconds left.

    That’s the offense? LOL!

  32. PassingThru Says:

    @Joe

Did you honestly take a look at how Riverboat Ron got the maximum out of the minimum talent on the field? Did you notice their play variation on offense, which kept the Buc defense off balance? Did you see anything close to the same variation by the Bucs on offense? Do you realize that with AB out, Gronk out, Godwin limited that plays were needed to get the lesser receivers open? Did you see that?

    This team over out-coached.

  33. JimmyJack Says:

I will give some credit to the Redskins defense. They had a good game. But i do expect the Bucs to find some big plays. Everything was short instead. The few times Brady had to look for a biscuit he was pressured and not permitted to step into the throw.

The only answers our offense had today was dropped passes. The last 2 weaks have been mostly mental errors.

  34. crazyBucs_CL Says:

Can we save the team??? Only Glazers can.
I hope the see clearly what coaching we have.
Fire BA and his high school coaching staff.
We got a team 6-3 without coaches. Plug some young hungry guy as HC, maybe just maybe we still may have a season…
TB12 is calling the season on his part….. he will be out… and he DON’T WANT TO GET HURT.
Start Trask when the opportunity comes ….
Wow the painful/dark time came much sooner that some of us thought it will.
    Sad;Sad;Sad

  35. Oneilbuc Says:

I rest my case same team Jamies had and you got the same results!!!

  36. Waterboy Says:

Teams have watched the Saints and are playing over the top and preventing the deep shots. Forcing the Bucs into the middle of the field.

  37. unbelievable Says:

    Read my full post.

    OFFENSE + DEFENSES.

THEY BOTH SUCK. lol At giving either one a pass

  38. Oneilbuc Says:

I like BA but it’s time for him to start coaching now!! And again you can’t mock God Joe !!!

  39. Wild Bill Says:

The Bucs looked terrible on their very first possession. After a bye week they should have been fine tuned and totally prepared. They came out boring and flat. Only Fournet showed showed up. There are no excuses for this game. Truth be told the Bucs have struggled in other games against teams with poor records. Even Brady has looked way off his game. Other than a couple of lop sided wins the Bucs look mediocre. Sure there is time enough to turn it around. But two ugly losses in a row with a week off in between is hard to accept.

  40. Waterboy Says:

Fire BA, lmao. I want what you all are drinking.

  41. Bradinator Says:

Certainly looked like Charlie Checkdown today with the exception of 2 passes. An awful lot of 3 and 4 yard passes to Fournette.

  42. SOEbuc Says:

We are so banged up. DB can’t stay from getting hurt. I don’t make excuses, it’s just not fare at the moment. Long rest of the season. Is Carlton Davis on the Bucs roster cuz I have not heard a peep from anyone, including JBF, our #1 CB name even being said.

  43. tampabuscsbro Says:

Why are people in here arguing whose fault it was.

    IT WAS BOTH

  44. Allbuccedup Says:

Yes to all. He actually looked disinterested. Maybe hes lost it lets hope not.

  45. Oneilbuc Says:

If Jamies was the quarterback it would be his fault. I’ve been telling yall it’s a team game . We win as a team and we lose as a team. Ain’t no 1 player is the reason why we lose or win . And to my real bucs fans. Don’t let the national media fool yall with it’s all Brady. Forget Skip Bayless !!!

  46. unbelievable Says:

    Brady threw 1 long pass……

    ONE.

That’s inexcusable. He’s done after this season , and we’re going back to being the bottom feeding cellar dwellers we’ve always been.

That’s what soft teams do. And this team is soft AF.

  47. Listnfrmafar Says:

I keep reading about Brady and check downs, do any of you know that is how he played for 20 yrs? Problem is he has no one to check down to. Joe you could be right, maybe the Unvle Buck BA coaching is a stronger influence than a stern discipline one. Brady works hard maybe players are saying F that I still get paid.

It will be interesting who BA throws under the bus now. Brady has nothing to do with D, he’s probably getting sick of having to play from behind. Wait, maybe BA is a genius and is playing possum, losing on purpose so he can stage another sweep comeback. NOT! Maybe he should stop throwing jabs at Bill Belichick and try learning from him.

  48. MarkV Says:

He will forever be the GOAT, but looks like he’s lost some of his fire. After 2 straight weeks of subpar play all around him…we’re was the blow up, like we saw at Chicago last year. If what I’m feeling is true, I’m afraid this may be his last year.

  49. PassingThru Says:

So what happened to the fans who opposed trading OJ for a CB? Actually it was a moot point, because you were not going to get an “average” CB for OJ, not unless you throw it a decent midround pick into the pot.

Defenses were able to take Evans away because Godwin was limited. The rest of the receivers are not as good as many of you think, they look good only defenses are forced to cover Gronk, Antonio Brown, and a healthy version of Godwin.

  50. GBUCin MD Says:

im worried…. I can’t go back to the way it was before last year…. somebody at 1BUC please figure this S— out..

  51. brooks Says:

    Told you all

  52. Jerry Strickland Says:

Since Brady has played for the Patriots and although he beat them on the Buccaneers side of the ball you could see his heart is still with the Patriots. I have no idea where his playing mind was today but it was not winning a football game for the Buccaneers. I think maybe he feels like if he winds up with a bad season with the Buccaneers he will be traded back to where where his heart really is and that is with the PATRIOTS.
You could see he did not have his heart on winning the game for our beloved Bucs. So sorry guys you deserved better.

  53. Rob Says:

I don’t want to offer excuses because the Bucs looked truly horrible today, but I have to think the extra games last year and off-season full of praise really has caught up to this team. Football is an emotional sport and I think this team looked mentally gassed and somewhat uninterested coming out of the bye. Not a great sign for us to repeat. The injuries in the secondary have really caught up to us. Missing AB and Gronk is really hitting the offense. The other teams at the top look a lot hungrier than we are, and think it’s going to take a big swing for us to turn it around. Shows how hard it is to repeat.

  54. G.Marosi Says:

I will admit today we did play bad almost came back but didn’t finish.
WFT played good defense, capitalizing on turnovers and keeping TB12 off guard.
We still have 8 more games with only 1 tough opponent in my opinion.
Let’s see how we do rest of season?

  55. Austin Says:

We need a come to Jesus, need a fire lit. This season is far from over. Either Tom needs to light the fire, or someone needs to light Tom’s fire. We can’t pack it up and give up. That is the old bucs, and idk about you but I’m not going back to the old bucs. We are better off now than we were last year. If we stay healthy, our only loss is to the Ram’s. I’m a very firm believer in injuries throwing wrenches in our game plans. Once we get healthy, we’ll be set. We caught fire before the playoffs last year and I’m confident it’ll be a repeat this year. But we absolutely CANNOT play the blame game and give up. Our team is far too good for that we’ve came too far. 2 years ago we’d kill for 6-3, now we’re bitching about it? With massive injuries?? Come on now

  56. Anonymous Says:

They have a target on them this year. There is a reason so few teams have won back to back in the salary cap era.

  57. Destinjohnny Says:

Think tb12 is starting to slip a bit boys

  58. Weak fans Says:

Man, some of these comments are more pathetic than the game.

We lost because our coaches are terrible. They’re too interested in being buddy buddy with the players. It doesn’t work.

How dare any of you question Brady’s will after one game. Maybe his receiver literally tossing the ball to an opposing player pissed him off this game? Maybe it’s the fact that despite relatively not serious injuries nobody who has been hurt all year can find their way back onto the field? They talk about Evans and Godwin but we all knew that when AB was still out they were going to come away with the loss. They can’t win without him.

Bottom line, our coaches suck, they still haven’t fixed the problems with penalties and dumb plays. I refuse to believe the entire team is incompetent so that leaves me with the only explanation that it’s the coaches.

  59. Nerdelbaum Frink Says:

Doesn’t anyone get tired of this sensational, hyperbolic FEAR AND WHINING AND CRYING every time there’s a little slump?

You lost a game to a bad team. It happens. Get over it and stop pretending the sky is falling.

  60. Eddie Marz Says:

There’s a reason Brady loves Brown and Gronk. They have sure hands make good adjustments and make proper reads of the defense. They make Brady’s day a lot easier. Brady really struggles with the receivers that are left.

  61. BT Says:

1st in tds and yards per game. Top 5 QBR and passer rating. Yes, Brady is done. Bucs fans are clowns.

  62. Steve M. Says:

    N. Frink and BT here both right.
Why doesn’t all the negative Nancys here
be like TB12 and know that when you are losing, it’s
possible to fight and comeback !

  63. Steve M. Says:

The Chiefs already lost 4 games and almost lost
a 5th. Do you think the Chiefs or their fans have given
up on the season ? Duh, of course not. Have faith Bucos !

  64. Mike Says:

Pathetic, deranged comments by phoney Bucs fans, especially about 44 yr old Tom Brady!! Probably the same ones that were whining last yr at this time and probably the same ones that were waving their pom poms during last yrs SB run!!!!

  65. Popcorn Says:

I find it weird that this is all about the offense when the defense gave up an 10+ minute drive to end the game after the offense brought them within 3 with a whole 10:55 left in the game. The offense didn’t get a chance to even get on the field to pull off a chance to mount the comeback. That ending drive was an embarrassment right when the offense had started to gel. You can’t win games by giving up drives like that.

  66. Popcorn Says:

And that theory I am reading that Brady was checking down because he got hit is not logical. . He gets hit every game people! It was more than that. I don’t really know why, but to say it was because he got hit makes no sense unless he got hurt. It’s probably because he either wasn’t trusting his Oline, or wasn’t trusting his receivers, or both.
