The Weak NFC

As it stands today, the Atlanta Falcons, at 4-4, have a hold on the final playoff spot in the NFC.
Just ahead of them is the quarterback-challenged New Orleans Saints. Floundering Carolina (4-5) also has quarterback trouble and is right on the Falcons’ tail.
That’s how weaksauce the NFC has been this year, while the AFC has 11 teams with a winning record.
Hell, neither the AFC North nor the AFC West have a team with a losing record!
Joe’s never seen anything like it at this point in a season.
As of today, the Bucs have just two teams on their schedule with a winning record: New Orleans and Buffalo. That could change by the time the Bucs actually face their remaining opponents, but Joe wouldn’t bet on a nickel on it.
Joe is fired up to see the Bucs go on a strong run and finish out with one loss or less — at least 14 wins.
The pivotal game Joe is locked in on? At Indianapolis on Nov. 28. That’s a very physical Colts team, one that has played a lot better than its 4-5 record.

Not worried about the Saints, we get them at home. But Buffalo and Indy present very real challenges, for real!
Yes, Indy is a lot better team than their record would indicate, and very physical as well.

meh, I’d like to see a loss/another wake up call before we get to the playoffs….provided we make it. If they continue what they have been it’s gonna get ugly. but I think they bounce back strong.

Giants, Aints, Colts, Bills and Panthers will all be tough especially with the Bucs habit of committing penalties and playing soft defense.

@lambeau. Agree. The top teams are all NFC so far this year. AFC is a mess right now. Nobody’s really separating themselves from the crowd.

i was thinking we could drop a game to the panthers, especially since it’s also almost like a back to back (jets in between i think)…
but with that backup qb they have…pj smith or whatever his name is – that dude is just not any good – he can’t get it done vs, the bucs…

The AFC is far weaker. They just happen to play each other. But here’s the thing — any of them can beat anyone else, there are no weak teams or easy wins. Sorry.
If not for horrible officiating, Bears beat Steelers on Monday Night.
Stop with how “weak” this or that is.

I’m fired up to see the Bucs win their next game. Enough about running the table, winning 14 games.

Always concerns me for some reason when fans start ‘assuming’ wins. I wonder if the (then) 5-2 Bills ‘assumed’ that they’d beat the lowly Jags last week? Or if the 7-1 Rams ‘assumed’ that they’d beat the Henry-less Titans? Every week there are multiple upsets, for one reason or another.
Bucs will be fortunate to finish 13-4. That’d mean that we’ll have to go 7-2 in our final 9 games; not an easy feat. We didn’t even do it last season (actually went 6-3 despite a spectacular finish). I agree with Tom Brady when he said that going to a 17-game season was a ‘terrible mistake’.
Hard for starters to stay healthy for that many games (especially when the BYE has gone bye-bye halfway through the season) … and then look forward to (hopefully) 4 more games in the playoffs. That’s potentially 13 games after our BYE … without a break. And with quite a few ‘older’ starters. And with a number of players still trying to come back from injuries. Better to ‘assume nothing’ IMO.

Fans assuming a win has no bearing on the actual game. It’s up to to the players to stay focused. I expect to win every week and expect us to run the table.

Yes, NFC is split. A few strong teams, then drops off rapidly. Or maybe the div leaders just have good records because the rest of the conference sucks.
