Ain’t it great when a team routs a lesser opponent and its coach is miffed because his team didn’t cash in on opportunities?
That’s where Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians is standing.
Last night he loudly grumbled about points left on the turf of the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway. He scoffed that the Bucs should have scored 20 more points — he’s not wrong.
And if that did happen, the Bucs would have been toying with the 60-point mark. LOL (When did you ever think a pre-Arians Bucs team was capable of that?)
Arians said today at his day-after presser that it wasn’t players pulling back thinking the game was in the bag (though it was in the bag). It was lack of execution.
“We got that lead in Philly we kind of relaxed,” Arians said this morning. “I didn’t think we relaxed in this game. … Offensively it was, don’t miss field goals and score inside the two and it is a 50-point game.”
There is a benefit, though, from Arians’ perspective. And it sounds like this week’s practices won’t be just walk-throughs.
“Thirty-eight points, a few years ago, I would have been jumping up and down,” Arians said. “It’s nice to be able to get 38 and coach hard.”
And then Arians flashed a devilish smile. Seems like the offense will be going back to school this week.

Pete…I don’t know if we could have run the ball in. We heave seen both Rojo and Lenny stonewalled a few times near the goal line. Time to put some other formations in place inside the five yard line.

He is not wrong. 2 weeks in a row 3 points in the second half. Now be in a tight game and those situations and you can’t get the ball in? Or points. That is their job not matter who they are playing.

We had some of our best guys off the field and we won with a 35 point margin, he’s sounding stupid now.

It is not fun seeing Rojo get stoned at the goal line again. Nothey could not have just run it in, that was proven. There is nothing wrong with a Head Coach wanting the players to play to their ability.
Oh maybe some have forgotten, how the Bucs kneeled down inside the 5 against Philly, no it is not about padding stats, it is about execution by grown men playing a game with excellence.
They are playing for a championship, and that means being consistent. For as many points as they scored, it still feels like a hit and miss kind of day for the offense. They got the ball at the bears 25 yard line and got zero points on a missed field goal in the first half. That is not good.
Excellence is about being consistent in the little things.
Excellence is how you win championships.

The goal line fiasco reminded me of SB 51. I’m surprised BA didn’t keep feeding Fournette until he smashed through and over. Even TB12 and Sherman can’t believe that Marsean Lynch didn’t get the call when Butler intercepted Russell in the end zone

Arians is correct as usual. Yes we dominated yesterday but if you can’t see where coach is coming from and that his criticisms are on point then you are the one that sounds stupid.

Goal line offense needs some practice this week. That’s really the main thing.
Saints will be tough. They beat us twice last year, once in a blowout. They will play us hard. They aren’t as good as they were last year but they are still well-coached. Jameis is no Drew Brees by a long shot, but he’s better than the QBs we’ve been facing for the last month. Superdome will be full as well. That’s not an easy place to play.

Of course Arians has to sell it. They have to keep the rest of the league believing the Bucs have flaws on offense.
We fans know better. There was no reason to score more, so leave the points on the field and hope other teams, like the Saints, focus on those things and not the near-perfect first half.
This is fun and will only get better, go Bucs.

Tend to think that BA is kinda pretending to be miffed about leaving points on the field because that was a pretty dominating Bucs win. And especially in the 1st half where the Bucs scored 5 TDs in 8 drives & held the ball for only a tad over 13 minutes.
Obviously TB’s 4 TDs in the 1st half set the tone, but the Bucs rushing attack was a thing of beauty IMO. All 3 RBs averaged over 5 YPC, and we used a very BALANCED ATTACK (44.3% run-pass ratio). Bottom line was that the Bears’ defense had no answers to our attack.
At the same time though, our defense was more stifling than it’s been all season. The stats (5 TOs, 4 sacks, 6 QB Hits, 5 TFLs plus 2-for-12 on 3rd/4th down conversions) are scary good, and yesterday’s team could probably beat about anyone in the NFL. And that with at least 3 of our key defensive starters on the sidelines with injuries.
Well, as we all know there is ‘a house in New Orleans’ waiting for us this coming Sunday, and some might call it ‘the Rising Sun’ … but I don’t think it’ll be the Saints when all is said & done.

Missing Gronk & AB….in particular in the red-zone……& that run off the right guard hasn’t worked several times…how about a pitch to the outside…hard to cover from the 2…..or run off the left side. Roll Brady out for a RPO…..

Leftwich goes brain dead with his calls in those situations. Line up in that run formation and pass the freaking ball or pitch out wide and let your back do what is necessary to get in instead of running up our offensive lines backs.

On that Godwin play where he was down at the 4 inch line, Brady had Evans one and one, a guaranteed touchdown, but instead was reverse-greedy and tried to get Fournette a TD. He should have taken the free TD and got Mike his 4th TD of the day.
On the other drive, the issue was the Bears literally had everyone run blitz up the middle, and Leftwich’s stupid play call, twice in a row, was to run directly into that. People can rag on Rojo for that play, but there was nothing there. Short of having Mike Alstott, no one was scoring.

I honestly liked the fact that neither Brown nor Gronk were available yesterday. It was an opportunity for Brady further improve his chemistry with Evans, Godwin and Johnson.

In the SB, that’s fine to do, but the last thing we need is for Vita getting his knees blown out playing FB in a 35-point blow out.

one little thing that drives me nuts is ROJO being 7 yards behind Tom when he’s under center. That gives the defense a split second more to read the play. Also Tompa doesn’t have Gronk and AB. that’s a key a BIG key. the defense can double Evans and Godwin. So Humpty Dumpty stop bitching and whining

Rod…have to agree regarding Vea. Why risk him? Maybe spread the formation to create more room for the D to defend? Don’t know for sure. But I’m sure B, BL, and TB will go back to the drawing board.

This is why Arians is great. Winning is expected, and when you have a chance to beat the snot out of someone, you do it! Those plays you miss are practice for tougher opponents. Stay dialed in at all times.

Points on the scoreboard, and wins & losses, are the stats I follow most closely.
All the other other stats, are just window dressing.

BA needed to pretend to be angry to set the tone for this week. These guys will respond. I think that they lost 2 of 3 last year to the Smelly Saints and those asshats implied the last loss was a fluke will be motivation. Like Wirfs found motivation against Mack.
