DEE-Fence (Boom, Boom)… DEE-Fence (Boom, Boom)
October 25th, 2021While the Bucs have one of the offenses for the ages, the defense brought out every long-time Bucs’ fans’ beating heart.
For decades, the Bucs were known as a defensive team. The Bucs first got to the playoffs (and NFC title game) on the backs of a punishing, stingy defense that hit like heck.
Even when the Bucs were awful in the late 1980s and the early 1990s, teams that came to the Ol’ Sombrero knew they were in for a physical game the way the defense hit.
And of course in the Glory Years, the Bucs had one of the most ferocious defenses the NFL has ever seen.
So last night watching the Bucs create more turnovers than points allowed, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports said it’s time to bow in respect to Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.
Bowles’ defense was superior in every way to Matt Nagy’s offense. It’s honestly as simple as that, because Brady didn’t even need a good day to claim a huge win here. TB12 ended up throwing four touchdowns … but even his aerial dominance came when the game was already out of hand. The real game ball belongs to the “D,” where Shaquil Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul and Co. consistently got in Fields’ face, pressuring the unsupported rookie into crucial mistakes early and often.
The last time the Bucs forced more turnovers than points allowed was their 2010 shutout of the 49ers at Candlestick Park.
What blows Joe’s mind is the secondary is so beaten up from injuries, the Bucs might hold open tryouts to find tire salesmen, gunsmiths or bridgetenders who can play corner. And yet the defense stomped the Bears.
Incredible!

What a glorious sight to see!
I stated it earlier but, that’s how a rookie QB SHOULD look against a superior football team.
Top ‘O the hat Coach!

Our backup CBs looked pretty good.

This was against a rookie QB. I’m not taking away from the dominance. Perspective. Don’t get too happy Defense. You’re facing a guy this week who knows you.

A great pass rush will make superstars of any corner with decent hands.

My favorite player is Vea. It is fun to watch him plow over the enemy.

This was the first time I remember feeling bad for the opposing quarterback… and I liked it.

Minor correction, Joe. Not Ol’ Sombrero but Big Sombrero, according to Chris Berman, who made the term popular.

Hey Joes: any update on LVD? Bucs Defense has been historically good in the part. Tampa Two, anyone? 🙂

orlbucfan … No one ever mentions it, but Kevin Minter has been playing some really good ball in LVD’s absence.

Standing in for Lavonte David, Kevin Minter was targeted four times in coverage and gave up two catches for a paltry -2 yards. His teammate Devin White allowed all three catches in his coverage for 29 yards.

Yes this great defensive performance was against a rookie QB and a team with a coach that has no clue what he is doing. I’ll take it though lol. Bottom line, you play who is on your schedule. If they happen to be a dumpster fire then oh well. In my book it’s more reason to enjoy the players and coaches we have now because it won’t last forever.

Monterey looked good. Was around the ball and out a good Rosh on fields once.
Not LVD but definitely a good place to have as the defence didn’t drop off as much as it could have.

What about earl Thomas any thoughts on bringing him in at corner for a few games at least till we are healthy and then letting him give us depth at safety. Maybe if Edward’s can play cb move him in to slot cb role idk desperate times calls for desperate measures. I’m sure sherman could speak with earl for us. Arians would be smart to shop some vets who may still have a interest in playing one more time then me young guys who will have trouble understanding the playbook

That was the perfect team to play with a depleted secondary.

Hey Jason Licht, I played corner in high school 30 years ago. I’m good for at least as many plays as Sherman ran. Hit me up!
