Triumphant Return

October 24th, 2021

Joe loved when defensive coordinator Todd Bowles blitzed then-rookie safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. early last season.

It was effective and Winfield reminded Joe of Rondé Barber coming after the quarterback.

The Bucs have not blitzed Winfield too much over the past year, at least not enough for Joe’s taste. But today against the Bears, on Chicago’s second play from scrimmage, Bowles sent Winfield from the right side. The result was a blindsided Bears rookie QB Justin Fields. Winfield recorded the strip/sack and Chicago recovered for a six-yard loss.

The play set the tone for the Bucs defense, Joe believes, and it certainly got in young Fields’ head.

Joe also was glad to see the Bucs have confidence in Winfield to explode into the backfield after missing the last two games with a concussion.

Tampa Bay needs the playmaker version of Winfield, and it’s damn good to have him back.

It was so nice seeing #31 back. He gives this defense an attitude. They are a better unit with him on the field.

    Welcome back stud puppy!

He’s going to make a play this weekend that helps us win a ball game.

Love this kid, wish I said make a play to “set the tone”. Vea and AWjr are my two young dudes looking great.

Bucs should make Sherman and Brady player Coaches… pay them league minimum at positions and give multi-million dollar coach contracts to them thus freeing up salary cap monies for signing Big Time free agents before trade deadline…. Worst case scenario Goodell pops a coronary artery🤣

Can’t wait to get bunting back but it might be after the BYE.

LOL! This TV coverage tonight… No, there is literally no such thing as a river in the sky. What a bunch of fake news d-bags.

I kind of like the popped artery part, Buckaroo. 😏

  8. Casual Observer Says:

Exactly right, Joe. Need him blitzing more. He is a sure tackler.

Just this week I was rewatching him giving the peace sign to Hill in the SB, and his great interview after the game.

Can we see all of Goodell’s emails? Asking for a friend

After a shaky start to the year and an absolute ridiculous amount of injuries to the DBs, The gravediggers are looking good. Of course the pass rush has picked up the last several games and that helps.
Shaq and JPP have been awesome!! JPP needs to get healthy though, they’re gonna need him down the stretch

Pass rush doesn’t work without coverage and visa-versa.
Our back-ups did damn well tonight regardless of the quality of the receivers or QB.
Experience is going to be key as this season progresses.

after that blitz Fields was never the same, he knew they had zero chance

Keep in mind , it’s been Miami and Chicago !! We all know if it’s a playoff caliber team it’s the same old guys not quite getting there. Fans bitching to blitz, complaining about the backup corners, etc.
That then leads to abandoning the run out of panic to score points and that only hurts the defense and team overall.
