Run Defense Hits A New Level
October 3rd, 2021So the Patriots rushed the ball eight times tonight for a grand total of -1 yard.
That’s also known as perfection in run defense against an offensive line with some talent.
But Joe and other Bucs fans almost have grown used to this and have stopped considering how the Bucs week after week after week make offenses one-dimensional.
It’s been an amazing display of run-defnse dominance since the start of the 2019 season, but Joe’s never seen anything quite like tonight. Again, 8 Patriots runs for -1 yard.
Of course, the Bucs’ pass defense is messy and leaky, and Richard Sherman needs oxygen and a nap. But Joe suspects that will tighten up over time.
At this point Todd Bowles should be able to make better adjustments and nearly assume the run isn’t coming.
Next up, the Dolphins’ putrid running game.

Is no one else concerned that “one dimensional” is not an advantage when our D sucks against that “dimension”?????

AMAZING.
Pray Winfield and davis are okay.
and trade for a CB.

Tryon monster hit tho!
October 4th, 2021 at 12:00 am
Huge props to sherm! Wasn’t in the nfl a week ago and put in major work tonight. Get that dude an oxygen tank and an iv! My hat is off to him tonight. I am taking this W!
October 4th, 2021 at 12:00 am
And when it comes down to 4th and 2 do you think that run D is a factor? You are brain dead if you dont.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:01 am
Bucsfan…agreed on Sherman…can’t hold anything against him when he hasn’t payed in forever
October 4th, 2021 at 12:01 am
Thank goodness.
We need another defensive back right now.
Sherman still looks like he can play, despite the rough night. He should help.
Davis thing (haven’t read news) looked like a quad tear or quad tendon tear. Geez. And on a damn punt.
If we can get a solid run game (steady) and stop screwing up screen passes, maybe the offense can finally carry the load. At least when Gronk comes back and/or OJ is closer to 100%.
Given the issues we’ve had, I’ll take 3-1. Also happy to see the might Rams get punked at home today.

Run D continues to impress. Vea clearing out the whole right side for Tryons sack was awesome. Sherman…. Did pretty good for 2 days worth of practice, nothing got by him for a deep catch. Need to start making calls for CB, and after Winfield in concussion protocol for the last part of the game, we may need help there too. Everyone is going down
October 4th, 2021 at 12:02 am
I’ll say it.
The ref’s screwed us. Several times.
SEVERAL times.
Grateful we won…but their thumb on the scale should be investigated.
That Devin White punch was the ONLY reason that receiver didn’t catch that ball. Anyone declaring otherwise is either compromised or dumb as a box of rocks.
But we won anyway. So screw you, lying, cheating refs.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:02 am
Ease up on sherm joe… I for one am glad he was in there. They tested him early but strayed away later
October 4th, 2021 at 12:03 am
You can just see the athletic skill and veteran experience of Richard Sherman. No conditioning. No preseason. No practice. And he was inches away from making big plays all night. Give him three weeks.
But gotta make a trade. Go get someone.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:03 am
Now we need to learn how to cover the shallow middle and the screen pass. Why are we surprised that teams are doing this? C’mon Todd, scheme in a fix.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:04 am
Yeah sherm def got beat, but not bad all things considered. Considering its a quad I don’t expect Davis to come back any time soon. Really hope we can get at least one of the other guys back… May e Dean?
October 4th, 2021 at 12:04 am
Todd it was shaq not Devin
October 4th, 2021 at 12:05 am
Why is 24 out there on the punt unit? Joes, please ask Bruce. Pls. Absolutely insane/criminal use of our top DB, under the circumstances.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:05 am
Mac Jones completed 19 straight passes, tying Tom Brady (Week 1, 2015) for the longest streak in a game by a NE QB over the last 30 seasons
But we can sure stop the run…
October 4th, 2021 at 12:05 am
Yep, who are we gonna get to help out now…CD is out two or three weeks minimum and we may not have Winfield for a week.
Anybody else concerned that ALL our wins were sloppy as sh!t and the one team that had a good D and a good O kicked out @sses!!!
October 4th, 2021 at 12:06 am
It was raining. This is fake news!!!
October 4th, 2021 at 12:06 am
That’s right Jmark, we are the best against the run…60/70% cuz we are good against and the rest is cuz we suck against the pass
October 4th, 2021 at 12:07 am
Tip of the cap to Richard Sherman!
October 4th, 2021 at 12:07 am
Frank — Arians should fire himself for having Davis play special teams in driving rain. Unreal. He and Vita are the two guys the defense just cannot afford to lose right now.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:07 am
And to TB12 for recruiting him to play with the Bucs!
October 4th, 2021 at 12:07 am
Also, how bout that Joe Tryon? His speed on that sack was sick. Jones never saw him coming.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:08 am
Now how about that pass defense? Eeek.
Cockrell has done decent though, and Sherman played good all things considered. Only got badly beat once, and he was clearly lost before the ball was even snapped.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:09 am
ModHair — well said on Sherm. That guy is an athlete. And confident. He’s going to help a huge amount going forward. Great work by Licht.
I didn’t even know Winfield was hurt. Ugh. We need more DB help asap.
October 4th, 2021 at 12:10 am
Todd, it was hard playing 11 on 16, but we did it. So many bad calls starting from the beginning when a punched out fumble got reversed! Now I don’t know what a catch is anymore. He bobbled it, but than secured it, took two steps, ball gets punched out, fumble called, how does that get reversed? Now that this over hyped match up is over, can we relax and play some football?
October 4th, 2021 at 12:11 am
Sherman led the team in tackles & I think he recovered a fumble……give him a break…..a few days, at least to get into football shape……what do you expect.
Glad to have him
October 4th, 2021 at 12:12 am
I don’t know why you’d bother to run at all when you can so easily pass on this defense. I mean, I really don’t know. I think the only reason coaches do the token run up the gut is because if they don’t, some idiot reporter will ask them why they didn’t run the ball. If I’m coaching, maybe you do a 3rd down draw or something, but otherwise I’d just sit back in shotgun and throw short passes all day.

October 4th, 2021 at 12:20 am
Comical to watch teams try and run really
October 4th, 2021 at 12:20 am
Vea
October 4th, 2021 at 12:27 am
I thought considering Richard Sherman had not even had an NFL practice since last season and he goes to a new team with basically three days of practice and definitely not in football shape he played a hell of a game. Sure he gave up some plays but nothing over the top and did recover a fumble. I will bet you he won’t be in game shape until after the next game. We got some sacks tonight with Tryon coming up with two big ones. Hopefully the defense starts to come around, but we may be without, SMB, Dean, Carlton Davis and Winfield next week in the secondary. I’m not sure if Licht can pull another starting corner out of his ass this week.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:02 am
Hey BugsBro (Bucsbro) worrying about da Rams isn’t gonna fix or help out that secondary Tampa has. Must really “Bug” you that your Bucs got clobbered by L.A. doesn’t it? Even Tom mentioned that tough loss last week on the road!!! Hell your Bucs were Damm lucky that ball hit the crossbar while struggling to beat a team with a rookie QB!!!! SHAME BUCSBRO. SHAME..
October 4th, 2021 at 9:06 am
Sherman needs a nap such a bad take
October 4th, 2021 at 9:35 am
Thank goodness because the opponents are passing anywhere on the field if they get the pass off within three seconds
October 4th, 2021 at 11:20 pm
Sherman did a good job, which is more than I can say about your appraisal of his effort.
