Bruce Arians Says There Is No Need For Him To Talk To Todd Bowles About Shaq Barrett

Sometimes a glaring weakness or a sudden dropoff in play from a player will prompt sort of a meeting between coaches to hammer out a plan to repair the issue.
Such a meeting of minds won’t be necessary, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said yesterday.
In his day-after presser, Arians was asked if he plans to meet with his defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to discuss the lack of quarterback pressures from the Bucs’ sack king, Shaq Barrett.
Arians said there is no need. Bowles is aware.
“I really haven’t said anything to Todd,” Arians said. “I think Todd knows and Shaq knows it’s time to get to the quarterback.
“He got shut out in [the Rams’] game. People are very aware of him, but that’s not an [excuse]. He needs to get to the quarterback, as do a bunch of other guys, and finish it when you get there. Just one sack is not good enough.”
That one sack came from Will Gholston.
Joe has sensed a pattern with Shaq dating back to his first year with the Bucs in 2019, when he had 19.5 sacks. This pattern became more obvious last year when teams knew they had to take Shaq out.
If Jason Pierre-Paul is playing less than 100 percent or not playing at all, and opponents can devote two and three blockers on Shaq, he gets neutered. (Shaq was often neutered by one blocker on Sunday.)
So that means the Bucs must find someone else to get consistent pressure on quarterbacks while JPP nurses his sore shoulder.
If somehow Shaq can get turned loose, he will certainly help out the injury-riddled secondary.

i miss seeing white blitzing up the middle all the time. He had 9 sacks last year for a reason… USE IT….. he is not great at coverage anyways. At least not as good as david.

I think the pressure has to come from the front 4 with the secondary ailing right now. We need the bodies in coverage. Every time we blitz White or David, it opens passing lanes.

Shaq is not doubled, or certainly tripled a lot of the time. He simply needs to beat his man. I watched Myles Garrett put a clinic on over the weekend in rushing the passer. Cleanly beats his match up against the left tackle with quickness and bend. We need those kinds of wins from Shaq or the others. Now I get that Shaq is not Garrett, even though he’s paid like it, but the reality is he’s a plus pass rusher and he needs to play like it.

Hello Mr Tryon, step up young man, if you are going to fill in for JPP, then please cause the offense to notice you, and have to focus on you more which helps free up the front 7, and namely Shaq.
We have heard so much about Joe T, but he is not anywhere near yet on the field the way he has been built up by others in their press conferences. I know he is young, but he is needed now to show out more. The pass rushof the front 7 is invisible right now.
If JPP is that instrumental in helping Shaq do his thing, then Joe has to step up, and the sooner the better. Young rookie or not, the games will still be played, NFL does not care if you are a rookie or a 15 year vet.

Just a matter of stepping up your game. These Buc pass rushers need to get it done, no excuses or find someone else that is hungrier. Coach them up better, make them play harder. I don’t see too many Buc players on defense going all out. Especially White and Barrett. They are the main cogs in that defense, start playing like it for their own pride.
Shoot, Gronk, Godwin and Tyler Johnson on Sunday all took hits and came through and stayed aggressive. Evans had good numbers but doesn’t look like his head is right. Hopefully Brown plays, he hustles, blocks, catches everything. Guy is a blue collar player, maybe a diva when it comes to celebrations but he goes all out on every route.

Joe that trend also applies to Vita Vea.
Look at Shaq’s production last year when Vea played, versus when he didn’t.
Seems to me that Shaq needs both Vea and JPP to be successful. And even with them in the first 2 games this year, he still only mustered 1 sack (and 2 QB hits I believe).

This is extremely disappointing. I never imagined that the defense would be this inept. All this talk and literally nothing to show for it. White and David are AWOL. JPP is mysteriously injured while all we heard was how healthy he was. Shaq is gone, after saying he wanted DPOY and the sack record. Idk what it is, but they need to answer the call NOW. I understand injuries happen, so while I’m disappointed in the secondary I get it, although there’s no excuse for AWJr. Idk where he’s been, but I expected more from him.

BUCS HAVE ONE OF THE WORST OFFENSIVE PLAY CALLERS A FIRST GRADER CAN COME UP WITH BETTER PLAY CALLING. BL NEEDS TO GO TO SCHOOL WITH SEAN PAYTON AND RAMS OC AND DALLAS OC AND BILLS OC WE GOT ONLY 10 OFFENSIVE WEAPONS USE THEM RIGHT AND REALLY DON’T MATTER IF AB WASN’T PLAYING. ON DEFENSE MAYBE TODD BOWLS WANTS A RAISE…. IDK ANYMORE ESPECIALLY THE PLAYERS WE HAVE ON OFFENSE IT DON’T MATTER HOW BAD THE DEFENSE IS. ONE OF THE GAMES WE PLAYED BRADY AND OFFENSE SCORED IN LIKE LESS THAN TWO MINUTES AT START OF GAME THAN NEXT POSSESSION WE GO BACKWARDS TO THE LAME BORING OFFENSE. I DON’T GET IT ANYMORE
