“We Weren’t As Good An Option As Tampa”

Belicheat speaks

Joe’s not too into the Brady-Belicheat drama.

For Joe, it’s over. Tom Brady won a Super Bowl in Tampa while Bill Belicheat missed the playoffs and drefted a quarterback in the first round.

Scoreboard!

But it was interesting to hear the greatest head coach in NFL history on WEEI sports radio this morning talk about not wanting Brady to leave New England.

“We weren’t as good an option as Tampa. So I mean you’d have to ask him about all that. It wasn’t a question of not wanting him; that’s for sure,” Belicheat said.

Pressed about specifically wanting Brady to return after the 2019 season. Belicheat wouldn’t go there and sort of said “that dynamic” has been all flushed out.

For Joe, it was almost surreal to hear Belicheat talk about Tampa being the better option for Tom Brady. Sometimes Joe feels like a passenger on Flight 828. Keep in mind Brady made the call to come to the Bucs before the Patriots had all their COVID opt-outs last season.

Brady wanted a multi-year deal, the Pats only wanted to give him a low-balled 1-year deal. It’s not a mystery on why he left.

Bill can try to rewrite history all he wants, but the truth is already out there.

    Poor ole’ Bill.
I think he’s under .500 since, “you know who” left.
    Prolly, just a coincidence though.

  4. Youngbucs Says:

    Dolla Bill a liar lol

This is just going to be the best week ever for sports fans. I’ll bet TB12’s presser on Wednesday has 2,000 reporters on the call, LOL.

  6. Beeej Says:

Rod, I had the impression it was Brady who didn’t want a multi year commitment, which then let him escape (which is what it looks like Rodgers is gonna do)

  7. The Beer Whisperer Says:

    Just for fun.
Bill’s preprogramed response, to losing : “We have to play better, in all 3 phases of the game”

  8. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Uncle Bill, after the Bucs game : “We have to play better, in all 3 phases of the game”

Bills head coaching career without Brady is well under 500. Seller’s remorse.

Ya’ll are going to lose your mind
worry about Tom Brady hear we are just 3 games in the season opener and ya’ll still thinking about Tom Brady and the Buccaneers is going to win a 2nd Championship.
There’s a lot of good teams out there that Brady is going to face in 2021…
Ya’ll saw that yesterday when The LA Rams defeated him and his Buccaneers by 10 points 😂😂😂🍺

Beeej – According to the Boston press, Brady repeatedly wanted a long-term deal done, and the Patriots would just respond with shorter deals for way below market value. If my memory is right, they might have offered him something like 2-years/$30-million (total, not per season) with only the first year guaranteed. In the end, my understanding is they offered a pretty bad one-year deal. Now, knowing the history of Boston sports isn’t exactly at the top of my to-do list, so perhaps I’m getting it all backwards, but I do know they wanted Brady at a very very cheap price and wanted to be able to cut him without it messing with their cap.

A Very Buccaneer like record by Billy B B4 Brady got to the Bucs lol lol
Billy B’s record is 47% win percentage with the Browns and Pats

Bill will try anything to save face in this. He knew the crap would hit the fan in the NE region over this. Bill had to have something to say, but the writing was on the wall, Bill was trying to do with Brady like every other player, let them go before it is to late. But as we see, Bill badly miss projected on Brady talent being diminished.

You know Bill thought ahead of time about the hell to pay for this kind of decision being made by him not being more accommodating to Brady.

Bill blew this one, and no matter what is said about Bill in his legacy, Brady is the one that got away.
Bill has done well, but life without Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr is just not the same for Mr Belichick and his football legacy.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  14. Mr Bean Says:

People make it out more emotionally charged than it is. The Patriots “wanted” Brady back after 2019 to the extend that they were not going to pay too much for him when the offense was depleted and had no chance of winning short of a rebuilt. The Bucs who were loaded and just missed the QB piece “wanted” him more. Simple as that. As much as Pats fans are upset at Bill for not resigning Brady the Pats didn’t owe anything to Brady. The SBs were in the past. The future didn’t make sense with Brady leading a depleted team.

  15. Buczilla Says:

I’d rather know what DeSean Jackson did to Jameis, but the Brady/Bill drama is a snoozer and seems pretty obvious to me. Bill done f’d up, lol.

  16. Since76 Says:

There must be an asterisk by the claim of goat coach. Greatest with brady at QB. Below average without Brady. The numbers don’t lie.

    LIAR

    Dumb@ss

Face it Bill – you didn’t value Brady nearly enough – nor believe he could still play at a high level – and like everyone else who bets against the GOAT because of his age – YOU LOSE.

Pats will be lucky to even have a winning season at 9-8.

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

Is Billy Davis, Oneilbucyall? I followed this in New England, Brady wanted a 2 year deal $25 million just like Brees, not asking for Mahomes, Dak, Wilson, Watson money. Pat’s came back with 1 year 13 million. Adios Amigo! The Brookline Mansion went up for sale.
