Rough week ahead for old school football heads.
Joe understands some old school football fans who follow the Bucs won’t like this.
Some will try to have you believe a right guard is as important if not more so than a quarterback. And you don’t need a good offense to win championships, among other prehistoric football axioms.
Joe is confident those same folks cringe when they hear or read or watch that Quarterback-X will face Quarterback-Y in a game.
Well, this is going to be a rough week for them. So unless you want to pretend you’re Amish and fully unplug yourself from all electronic devices until Sunday night, there is no way you won’t see, hear, watch this between now and Sunday night.
Tom Brady will face Bill Belicheat when the two legendary NFL leaders will match wits in a pivotal game on Sunday night.
To that end, Tom Curran of NBC Boston got into a back-and-forth with Belicheat trying to get the grumpy New England coach to discuss his former quarterback leaving him for the Bucs.
Enjoy and just a friendly warning: There is no way to escape the Brady-Belicheat storyline from the Bucs’ next game. This is going to be the most-hyped regular season NFL game in years. And it’s all because of Brady and Belicheat.
Prepare accordingly.

Bill will rush 3 give Bucs the run and make sure TB12 doesn’t break the all time passing yard record in his house. Stopping the game to celebrate that would be another thorn in his side.

By continuing to call the Patriots cheaters, you are in effect calling your quarterback a cheater. Which Superbowl do you want taken away? Maybe Brady brought more than just great qb play. Maybe they cheated last year.

SB is clearly on crack because Brady was phenomenal in that game and shredded the Rams defense even without AB in the line up.

Brady looked “phenomenal” ……….lol.
What just because it was the first game he ever threw for 400 yards and lost with only 24 points?
He looked “phenomenal” when he only threw for 276 yards and 5 TDs!
However we may be spoiled by now and expecting too much of him.

Well obviously it’s all going to be about Brady and the Pats — I don’t care. We’re Super Bowl champs, why would I care what the national narrative is. Also, as just a football fan in general, it’s an incredible story line. I, do, not, care if the Bucs are not the focus.
The only thing I do care about is Bowles sticking to his god awful plan of rushing 4-guys all game long when they’re getting zero pressure and doing nothing to mix things up. That is very concerning. How much attention Brady vs Pats get, I don’t care.

TB Bucsfan – I also totally agree. That was about an easy an interception that one could have. And he muffed it. Can’t have brick hands in the secondary. It changed the game.

I read that first time SB & thought ‘What? Brady was 41-of 55 on the day & just a tad shy of 75%. How is that not looking sharp?’
On thinking about it a bit more though, I agree with you, somewhat. Of those 41 completions, Fournette was 3-for 3 & Bernard was 9-for-10. That’s a lot of short completions to RBs, with majority of their yards gained coming on 2 plays. Brady was 0-for-3 deep in the 1st half, but improved in the 2nd half going 4-for-6 deep. By the time he hit his first deep completion though, Bucs were trailing 21-7 & never really came close after that.
Still, Brady had a very productive day stat-wise, but we had trouble sustaining too many drives, especially early-on. Some of that is on the play-calling, and some of it is just poor execution.

If Bucs can’t run the ball this week this is a problem. Brady can’t be the entire offense and they have to run the ball. The way the defense is playing we’ll be playing catch up like we always were before Brady got here

@DR……..I haven’t re-watched the game but I wasn’t completely knocking Brady. I think there were some bad routes and some miss communications happened way too much.
LVD was the only player that stood out on D to me.
However I was watching the game with a friend of mine who was going through some life changing events

i kinda felt as if the bucs weren’t going to give it their all vs the rams…
and it appears that they didn’t…
i think they were thinking ahead to this crazy week of football vs the pats…
not a single person in the bucs organization wants to let tom down this week…

Couldn’t really eastablish much run game due to it being a gunslinger match. The score dictated the games content. Hard to run when you are playing catchup. There won’t be a return to the promised land if we cannot stop the attacks.

Funny stuff. It looked like Belichick enjoyed it as much as having to surgically remove his own appendix with a butter knife.
Belichick is full of excrement. Brady wanted to stay, but the contract offer was pathetic. It was a one year deal, that’s all that was offered and Robert Kraft wouldn’t intervene. What a sensational deal, playing behind a porous offensive line and having zero starting WRs and TEs. Yet all the Patriots had to do was give him a two year contract at $25 million per, the same contract Brady signed with Tampa Bay.
I’m wondering when the honeymoon period between Belichick and the press will end. Belichick has produced a culture that discourages his players from talking freely, making the press overly reliant on Belichick. It helped Belichick immensely that Brady was always careful to never make a revealing remark, that leadership was an example that the other players followed.
The interviewer, Tom Curran, is one of the few reporters who isn’t intimidated by Belichick. I expect more reporters might be willing to take a harder line towards Belichick in interviews, maybe not this year, but sometime soon if the Patriots cannot turn it around.

Brady’s passes got longer as the game progressed. The short dink and dunk passes were scripted prior to the game, which happens every game. Once that script ends, Brady can call his own plays when he deems it necessary and the passing game opens up.
Watch for it.

PassingThru … Got a hunch you nailed it ref the scripted plays at the start. Against the Rams we went 3 plays, Punt; 3 plays, Punt; 6 plays, Punt on our first 3 drives of the game. Our 1st drive of the 2nd qtr was 16 plays for a TD … so much for scripting.

When I see an old timer complaining about the way things are today I have to laugh. We give ourselves away with phrases like “back in the day” or “when I was young ”.
Once I stumbled across a quote from Aristotle going back about 2500 years regarding the youth of his time. All I could picture was a bunch of kids drag racing in their chariots in Athens. 😄(This thought should date me to the middle aged and younger as well.)
Here’s the quote. “The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. Belichick’s responses in the interview was as typical and as bland as you will get from head coaches across the league over time. I’ve seen him be more belligerent when he was in the mood, though.
It’s the media’s “job” to try to stir up controversy. More fun for we/us fans. Fan’s focussed on football itself hardly pay attention to that stuff.

Obviously Belicheat wants to win the game but I imagine he doesn’t want to lose and have Brady carve them up. So look for them to play a lot of coverage and dare the Bucs to run. When they know Brady has to pass they will probably bring the house. I believe Belicheat is going to bank on the Bucs lack of patience with the running game. If the Bucs continue to run on first down we will play right in to The Pats hands. We need to mix in the run a little more and be more unpredictable.
