Are Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh as good as Warren Sapp and Booger McFarland?
Joe isn’t sure they can match that combination but they are very much in the same room. And the way Chase Goodbread of NFL.com sees it, the play of both Suh and Vea are a huge reason the Dixie Chicks didn’t upset the Bucs yesterday.
In fact, Goodbread believes Atlanta was so focused on trying to stop Suh and Vea that it provided the open lanes for Devin White to exploit on blitzes.
Strong up the middle. The interior combo of Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh on the Bucs defensive line was frighteningly effective. They shrank Atlanta QB Matt Ryan’s pocket all day, preventing him from comfortably stepping up in the pocket, and gave no ground against the running game. The Falcons offensive line collapsing on them was also one reason LB Devin White was able to run unabated to the quarterback on multiple blitzes up the middle. Suh notched a sack and three pressures, and the brute power Vea showed in pass-rushing situations late in a Week 1 win over the Cowboys showed up again Sunday. This is one nasty tandem.
It took a couple of tries for White to start blowing up Matty Ice’s throws, Matty Ice was having such a good game that even he was initially able to dodge White’s blitzes.
Now Joe has only watched the game once and will have to watch it again to answer this question but it seems both the Cowboys and the Dixie Chicks were using short drops and short passes for both Dak Prescott and Matty Ice to get rid of the ball.
Matt Stafford, the Rams quarterback and leader of the next team the Bucs will face, has a history of carving up the Bucs — and other teams — with three-step drops and a quick release.
Joe knows one thing for sure: If there is a way for Stafford to throw short passes after a three-step drop, Rams coach Sean McVay will find it.

In addition to short passes it almost feels like both teams decided to live with singling Vea and knowing while he will push his guy back that it would take longer than say Barrett blowing past a single block

Would like to get D. White going as well. He hasn’t played bad, but we need him to make those splash plays he usually makes. Of course the refs didn’t help him out last game.

Fat guys matter..
All the chat and attention to brady this Brady that.. cmon… its football and there are big guys doing their jobs winning their battles. Suh is huge and hoping he stays healthy a la brady methods so he can toss Olinemen around. Defense played better this week .. the picks were huge.

I loved the play where Nacho exploded up the middle. A good Win against a divisional rival. Against the Rams, the BUCS have to eliminate the penalties and play like they did in the playoffs!! Go Bucs!!!

If only Bowles could figure that out. The only way the opposing QB’s can throw the ball is quickly, this front 7 is causing them fits even if the sak # is low

The Suh-Vea combo is very hard to stop. Why compare Sapp-Booger? Booger can’t hang with Culpepper’s stats. Sapp is one of our Best. But Booger just can’t hang with Culpepper. Yeah, Booger did win a ring, on IR. Yawn!!! 20 sacks for Booger compared to 33 sacks for Culpepper. Booger never reached 7 sacks a season 6.5, Culpepper did it twice 8.5 and 9 sacks in back-to-back seasons. Culpepper played in every game as a Buc except 3 in 6 seasons.
Can not say that about the Booger.
Suh-Vea combo is a powerhouse. Love It!

Better than Sapp, no. Booger was a disaster. Via & Suh much better. Don’t forget Culpepper. He was on par with Suh not Via.

I’d replace Booger with Brad Culpepper Esq. Booger is overrated in many aspects…on the field and on TV. He sat out the SB run of 2002 and somehow fetched a 2nd round pick from the Colts ( blown on Sabby The Goat I believe ).

I think it takes our team a bit of time to wear the opponent down, but once we do, the flood gates open and its hard for opponents to keep pace. The overall discipline of both units can still improve…..cut out the turnovers and quit giving away first downs with unnecessary penalties (Davis/Jensen), this team will be difficult to keep up with. As the lead builds, the Bowles can become more and more aggressive which can then lead to turnovers, better field position, maybe even a quick score. The Bucs definitely have some room to improve….and fingers crossed we can stay healthy.

Only thing I’ve seen consistent from the D line in 2 games is Vea blowing up the middle. Don’t get me wrong Suh has been doing it, but if Vea was a little quicker he could of had a few sacks. Watching Vea just embarrass grown men is crazy. Suh and Vea make one hell of a team up front, a lot like David and white behind them.

What does SOP stand for I’m genuinely curious. Plus I’m old so I don’t know lingo these days. Except to he annoying as hell think kids and my kids do and bruh! Sapp was all world – but Booger was a JAG.
Culpepper was undersized – but he was more effective working next to Sapp than McFarland ever was…..
Vea and Suh as a pair are better than Warren and Booger for getting the job done.

The defense was slow to start. They allowed 25 points. They played like do we really have to do anything? Brady is doing it all. Then when they allowed the 25 points, they realized, oh yeah , we do have to do something. They did this in both games so far. To paraphrase Gizelle, her husband can’t do everything, that includes sacking the other team’s quarterback.
