Bruce Arians: Carlton Davis Wasn’t Injured

So the scary news late last week was Bucs No. 1 cornerback Carlton Davis showing up on Friday and Saturday’s injury report with a bad hamstring.
It was unclear whether Davis would play Sunday, but he did. Aside from a dumb personal fould and a couple of minor miscues, he was solid and certainly looked healthy leading the Bcus in tackles with nine.
Asked about the injury after the game, Bucco Bruce Arians said Davis was never hurt.
“It wasn’t an injury, just a tightness. He’s fine. He’s fine,” Arians replied, rejecting the questioning reporter’s notion that Davis had been hurt.
That’s an interesting nuance to the injury report — a player with a muscle tightness (cramp?) that isn’t really an injury but it’s listed as one per league rules because he sat out practice.
Regardless, this is great, great news. Davis is healthy and there is no injury to linger — and hamstrings will linger. And now the Bucs are less likely to waste time on Richard Sherman.

While I agree it’s great news that Davis doesn’t have a hammy issue, I’m not sure that it would be “wasted time” if the Bucs look into Richard Sherman, IF he still can play at a high level.

Well they need to call somebody for help, either on the line or cb because the line isn’t applying enough pressure and the CBS can’t cover more than 1 second. On the bright side they have come thru in crunch time at the end of both games. Offense going to have to score 42 every game until they get it together

I agree with David. The D line is not playing like last year. Good but not great. They are not getting to the qbs like last year. Still stout against the run most of the time but Atlanta backs broke off some long gains too often. Last years sack heroes are just not getting there like last year. And the new hope rookie Tyron gets caught out of position on run plays by trap blocking. And last, Brady looked sharp early on but seemed off later on. A lot of his throws were off the mark. And what happened to AB? Not much of a factor. Gronk and Evans carried the scoring load. The two interception tds late in the game distorted the overall defensive picture. It was a great finish but the majority of the game the defense did not dominate. The Falcons moved the ball all game until the last couple of possessions. It seemed like the Bucs would take a nice game and then let the Falcons right back in it. Just got to say the first 2 games against non superbowl bound teams should put the coaches on notice. We are not dominating second tier teams. The two quick defensive tds at the end distort the actual close game the Falcons played.

JPP going sackless against Atl is a bit concerning to me. Is father time catching up? Like to see Tryon’s snap count increase.

I agree with David–Sunday will tell us a lot. I think Stafford could be big trouble against our CB2. I do feel good about Edwards being the nickel.

This is how our defense looked for the most of last season. If the QB got rid of the ball quickly like both have done so far, our D barely breathed on them. Yesterday out front four collapsed the pocket better than against Dallas, but our secondary has never been shutdown other than after the Washington game in the playoffs last year. I think it had a lot to do with how Bowles is scheming. But so far we have 2 wins. It takes 6 games to get a team working well together in my opinion. Just keep winning while we are continuing to gel.

Seems like the injury the Bucs have the biggest problem with. With all the hamstring issues I wonder why the sports science isn’t helping. Glad he’s good to go. If we lose Davis, that backend is really gonna struggle.

The elimination of the “probable” designation has manufactured too much drama on the injury reports the last few years methinks.

Joe….we will need Sherman….or if you don´t like Sherman, let´s pick another one……If we don´t add CB, we will be in trouble……Serious trouble…..

Defense started off slow last year PLUS they had injuries, It’s a 17 game season now. Joes gotta get something stirred up. 🙂

I’d rather see Winfield in the slot with Edwards and Whitehead at the safety

Every phase of the defense was off kilter. The CB’s will contnue to be trounle. Even Devin White appeared to be out of the game until the 4th qtr. David was the only one consistently playing up to speed. The pas sc rush is certainly not the caliber we had during the Super bowl. A few penalties did not help our cause. Had Edwards not run in for 2 scores, this would have been a poor game defensely. Thank goodness the offense stayed true to their ability. Things will only get harder into the season especiallyvas injuries begin tonpile up.

It’s pretty simple, when they can’t get to the Qb, secondary is exposed. That’s true for a lot of teams that don’t have a shutdown corner. They aren’t winning jack until they figure it out. They made Matt Ryan look like Joe Montana

I’m pretty sure everyone wants to know what was with the Squibb kicks?? No confidence in your special teams?? Bucs would of scored 70-0 if it wasn’t because of that B’s I was about to turn the TV off!!!!

Also offense was on point first series scored touchdown in 2 minutes what happened after that???? We need a new Offensive coordinator!!!!

Sherman is a very disruptive person. He will be bad for our locker room. I know we need help, but can we please look somewhere else?

Sherman is likely the best player on the street, but he is older, had injury problems the last couple years, possible league/legal problems, and baggage. He is not AB from last season. In order to get him on the field, he has to be in shape, know the system, demonstrate he can do it, and not get suspended by the league, and it needs to happen now. None of that seems likely. The guys up front need to do their jobs and get to the qb, Noone in the secondary gets paid anywhere near what the line are making. NO Excuses. JPP, Shaq, and Suh need to show up every week. It was prognosticated all off season that the defense was going to get after the qb. Noone was predicting that the secondary was going to ball out and win games for this team. Seems so silly to think a guy off the streets is going to save them. Hard pass on the lame antics and diminishing skills that is Richard Sherman.
