Bucs Have Talked To Richard Sherman

Desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures.
The Bucs are on a nine-game winning streak and may be the least needy team in the NFL.
That’s the great news.
The other news is cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting is out at least a month after wrenching his elbow in Week 1, and Ross Cockrell and Jamel Dean didn’t play well in his absence. Also, No. 1 cornerback Carlton Davis has a new hamstring injury.
So it seems that prompted general manager Jason Licht to pick up the phone, if you believe NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero.
A report this morning says the Bucs were among teams that reached out to legendary cornerback Richard Sherman, who in past years has represented himself without an agent.
Joe has no idea if Tom Brady is a buddy of Sherman and had a small part in the communication, as he did with other free agents since arriving in Tampa. Sherman, 33, has had personal and legal issues recently and has had no team after playing for the 49ers last season.
Joe isn’t high on signing Sherman for various reasons, but Joe also is not privy to the whole truth on the Murphy-Bunting and Davis injuries.

For all Richards antics, yes get his vet presence in the Secondary room during the week, and game days. He brings something this secondary needs, CONFIDENCE, whether you like this guy or not, get him signed like yesterday. Anyone see the scared look on J Deans face during the Dallas game? I sure did, and the way he concedes first downs simply by lining up.
Richard brings confidence and will not back down, and concede first downs.

This is why it was a huge mistake not signing a veteran defensive back. The secondary was a weak spot even during the championship run. Without a pass rush, it’s the worst back end in the NFL.

With TB12 in the building guys know they gotta act right so I’m not worried about that – and he’s gotta be at least as consistent as Dean on a down-to-down basis, even if he’s not as athletic. If he takes less than he was asking for in FA to chase a ring, I’m down.

We could give up a lot of air yards today with out CD 24. To me Dean is not a good football player. The pick-off of Drama Queen Rodgers was and probably is the only play he’s going to make. In pressers he doesn’t come across as being intelligent and seems very childlike. I hope I’m wrong and he turns out to be a good player but I’m not confident that he will.

He is not too old, – he played great last yr and is much better than “don’t make a scene” Dean. Prob with Dean is he makes a scene every time he gets burned. Richard Sherman got in trouble once in his entire career and has been a model citizen. I would personally love his presence for these young DBs, I’d feel infinitely better. As it stands right now, I see Stafford throwing for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns, so we’re gnna need to hold on for dear life and win shootouts if we want that home field advantage

I will willingly accept however this works out. I’m sure he would know what he is stepping into by signing here. And he would have a great chance to chase another ring. He’s obviously a bright guy. But if he is unwilling to play for what we have to offer, it means he isn’t the right guy for this time and place.

Depth is what kept us healthy at wr last year for the playoffs. If Sherman can play, CD can rest his hammy more.

Sherman is done. I wouldn’t sign him to much off the field drama and to be honest I think his asking price is to high which is why teams have stayed away. On top of that he hasn’t been anywhere as good since leaving Seattle.

If Ryan puts up 400+ yards today, they are going to hit the panic button and do something.
But not sure Sherman is the answer. And it may not be an option anyway. The league hasn’t said yet whether he could be facing suspension from his legal issues this past summer. Since he’s not signed currently the league has no pressure to make a decision right now. But if he is signed, they will speed up that disciplinary process.

Richard Sherman on Speed dial baby, the Bucs can not just sit there and say “Oh well we score 30+, no do not accept average, get it fixed and strive for excellence, it is about winning Championship, not just playing the game.
By the way, no matter what scheme that Bowels uses, if the player is not confident, and plays scared , that is not a simple adjustment of the scheme, that is a headache liability, and you have to get someone else in there if the player keeps playing scared, even thou they have good speed like Dean does have.

I think Whitehead will bring a certain amount of comfort to those with weak hearts.
Also, we have the luxury of soft division that can and will allow for guys to heal up and level up skill wise.
Not concerned one way or another, just win baby.
Today will go a long ways towards determining what the future holds. If we get torched we might bring in You Like That. If we don’t, well than You Like That is how we will all feel.

The secondary is the only area of this team without a strong veteran presence. This shows when things start to go wrong in a game, they simply can’t turn it around and seem to enter into a mental and confidence crisis. Signing a vet with the track record of Sherman would go a long way to help out these kids. Despite his off-field issues and outlandish personality I always heard that he is a true professional and a good presence in the locker room.

Absolutely worth a look/try if you ask me. Could be a similar success story to Antonio Brown on the defensive side of the ball. Former stand out on his last chance…with Tom Brady looking for ( another ) ring.

Sherman was a great Cover 3 CB that could play press man when he was young. We are primarily a press man team, not sure Sherman is a fit at 33.

You don’t think he and Tom wouldn’t be on the same page on how to carry the defense? That’s a rhetorical question of course. You guys whining about off field stuff please. He went thru what many men have gone thru, an overly medicated episode of not being able to handle his emotions towards his woman/ex. Pete you should know about that so just stop it. How many times has he been an off field distraction? The secondary is full of what about me millenials or perennials whatever you want to call them. They need an older “been there done that guy who’ll kick you in your backside” in Sherman that the offense needed and got in Brady.

I’m curious to know what kind of shape Sherman is in. It has been reported that he has had some drinking issues and he seemed to be OK with hanging his cleats up. So I wonder if he is in any kind of shape to just come in right away and contribute.
I like Richard Sherman as a player but why has every other NFL team left him alone?

I’m sure they’ve talked to plenty more than just Sherman. They need to trade for a good vet now. More leniency for us not having to resign Carlton Davis, who is good, but will be pushing for more than he might be worth because he knows he’s the best, oldest DB they got. Find a running team that would love to have RoJo. He’s certainly not being resigned.

This will be just like last season. Bowles will not show our true defensive schemes the first half of the season and then will slowly introduce new schemes in important games in the 2nd half of the season. This way offenses can’t prepare for anything other than our base defense with a lot of blitzes. Watch the blitz percentage start to drop again as we begin to introduce our real defense after the bye.
Our offense runs under the same philosophy. This has always been a trait of a BA coached team. The first half of the season is almost an extended pre-season.

Not in a Brady locker room, just check the history of players that went to NE and conformed to culture of a Brady led locker room. AB comes here and what do you know, he fits in just fine.

I agree but we don’t have much cap space at this point. Perhaps a few contracts could be reworked again but I don’t know how that would work right now.
I like what they did last year, bringing in Steve McLendon from the Jets when depth on the D-line was an issue. Maybe they could do something similar with the CB position…

Dean will be fine when he can play the type of defense he was drafted to play in. Hopefully, in time, he will also learn to play CB effectively in this “soft zone” as well.

We have known the secondary was a liability for years now. We chose to pay the players on the line. Those guys need to get after it.

Sherman at this point is a zone CB; quick WRs can burn him in man coverage. If a trading partner cannot be found, I understand as it is early in the season. More CBs will become available via trade later this season.
I think he’ll be a cheap date. If he misses this season entirely, it is likely the end of the trail for him.

It was the Achilles tear. He was never the same CB afterwards. He survives on technique and smarts, but that is what makes him a potential liability if he’s forced into man coverage.

A vet signing wasn’t in the plans. By the time the Bucs restructured and re-signed, there wasn’t enough money for decent vet CB.

I sure as hell hope they don’t bring in a Mclendon type CB. He’s garbage. It’s not just as simple as extended a guys contract to free up some money. Teams have to plan out those guys extension plus type of money they will still need to sign all the other big signs like Vea, White, AWJr, Whirfs down the road. Why Godwin can be a long stretch, also.Tyler Johnson is a great Godwin look a like and won’t cost $80 million next year. Mike is retiring as a Buc. Scotty should not be resigned unless it’s a max of $5M.They wouldn’t resign Hump when they had money. As long as Brady is here, I’m done talking a RB in the first three BS like ppl talk every year. We have a very good RB that isn’t allowed on the field. Bijan Robinson (he’s ridiculous)but that have to be a tank to top three.

Saints-Panthers game is big. Saints playing without a ton of coaches and some defensive players due to the VID. If the Panthers could somehow take them out, that would be big.
Saints defense looked terrible on that drive, just played soft zone it looked like. Panthers up early.

I don’t see a problem having Sherman in the locker room. There was friction between Sherman and Brady back in 2013 (“You mad bro?”) after Sherman intercepted a Brady pass and trash talked. Later that season in the waning seconds of Super Bowl 49, Sherman made it a point to be the very first Seattle player to congratulate Brady and shake his hand.
The resident crazy among the Legion of Boom was Earl Thomas, not Richard Sherman.

Panthers up big.
Winston is being efficient (6 of 7, 47 yards), not turning it over, and the defense is doing nothing. The covid riddled Saints defense looks like a Mike Smith defense, and if they want a chance in this game they’re going to have to give up on the dink and dunk crap and unleash the real Winston, otherwise they’re going to lose 31-10, like he’s Mike Glennon, compared to a Winston 35-31 type of loss.
Either way I’d like to see the Saints lose, that would be great.

Watching the stupid Panthers, I’m getting a bit concerned they might not suck. The Saints don’t have any legit NFL receivers, so that makes a big difference, and they’re just playing man to man and blitzing on every play – if you do that to Tampa, Brady is going to put up 90 points on you. But still, the Saints are a damn good team, so I don’t know how much of this is COVID related, and how much is the Panthers playing well. But if we have to put up with a good Panthers team and the Saints, that’s really annoying.

IMO…. this is going back to who to keep on the Team and what areas need the most help. This D rocks.. the DBs are weak. CD is above ave ang Bunting was coming on.. Dean is clueless and has been for 3 years.. Dude is always out of place.. ok one time he got a key pick.. otherwise they really have needed a more experienced guy at DB.. and NOW we know how hard it is to find one.. I was hoping they would pick up Patrick Peterson for a year.. this could have been done if they would have just let Godwin go.. So easy to get a WR. We could have signed Perriman back for 3M or half dozens others. Lots of guys out there that could fill in behind Evan and Brown.. Resigning Godwin will be the Achilles heal to this team if they dont win the Super Bowl.. We are all going to be looking into Deans face the rest of the year.. Its like that little laager who cant play outfield look. Dont hit it to me. Hopefully we can get Sherman or someone that will fill the gap.
