Giving The Defense Some “Juice”

September 6th, 2021

Channeling Chucky.

The Pro Football Frauds are trying to mind meld with Chucky.

The first Bucs coach to win a Super Bowl, Chucky was known for “juice.” He wanted guys to bring juice to practices daily because he believed that would carry over to games and often lead to wins.

Well, the PFF tribe decided to pick one element from each team that may be different this season, just based on preseason games (always a dangerous task).

For Ben Linsey, his biggest takeaway from Bucs preseason is rookie outside linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka can bring additional “juice” to the already formidable Bucs pass rush (typing that last phrase gave Joe the shivers).

Tryon-Shoyinka doesn’t have to carry an already loaded Buccaneers front seven. He simply needs to provide some juice in a rotational capacity, and he showed he can certainly do that this preseason after refining his body and his craft during his 2020 opt-out.

Tampa Bay’s first-round selection registered a 79.4 pass-rushing grade and six quarterback pressures in three preseason contests. He looks the part of an NFL edge rusher, giving the Buccaneers insurance if Jason Pierre-Paul takes a step back at 32 years old.

While Joe very much wants to jump on the JTS train and drive the bandwagon, Joe is tempering his excitement with the knowledge that JTS is a rookie and generally, rookies don’t get that many sacks. Not saying he can’t but it’s not the norm.

If JTS can get six or seven sacks, Joe has a hunch this defense will be absolutely lights out.

JTS filling in for JPP & Shaq on any given play is the perfect scenario for him to learn on the job. He couldn’t be in a better situation

Still looking for rust with JTS…..not seeing any…..

He will become our not-so-secret weapon.

DLine stats will largely depend on how healthy Vea & Suh stay this season. With Vea out last season, our DLine still did very well against meh teams (in terms of stats), but not up-to-par against quality teams (like the Saints, Chiefs & Rams).

The 2 big guys in the interior are the key to our pass rush IMO, and thus to getting a lot of sacks, hits, pressures & TFLs. They don’t necessarily get them, but the opposing offense has to pay so much attention to them that it makes life MUCH easier for our DEs & OLBs (and even our ILBs) to impact the play. Re-signing Vea & drafting a beast to replace Suh need to be our top priorities.

Hope he does not run himself out of plays like in preseason, BA talked about it. He is very aggressive, which is good, but stay within your responsibility, be disciplined and dominate from there.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

    ^^^^^^^^
Kind of like the old cars I see in Florida that don’t rust out like they do here in Michigan. Looking forward to seeing JTS get after it in real games.

What will they do when Shaq,JPP, and Joe Tryon line up together?

You know once He cracks that 6 sack mark teams will start moving more blocking his way. If that happens you know he’s opened some people’s noses up and then the rookie will have arrived. Hope this happens by game 6 so we can really enjoy his star riding. Just hope he don’t go screaming ” I want __________!” in the playoffs
