Yeah, yeah, yeah, those who obsess about the Tampa Bay offense know there’s a little disconnect between what coaches say and what happens on the field.
The Xs and Os freaks reading here know exactly to what Joe is referring.
The Buccaneers employ an Xs and Os guru for their radio broadcasts; that’s former Bucs tight end Dave Moore, who is entering his 15th season alongside play-by-play icon Gene Deckerhoff.
Moore’s 15 years in the league left him with a spectacularly trained film eye. ‘
August 2021 football, per Moore, left him seeing the transformed product that was the Bucs offense over the past six or eight games of the 2020 postseason and regular season.
“You can see kind of what we saw at the end of the year, with motions to basically uncover what the defense was doing coverage-wise, front-wise, moving guys around and then being able to throw it down the field,” Moore told WDAE radio.
“They used the pass to open up the run a little bit; we saw that in the second drive. So they are kinds of the things I’m anticipating to see [this season].”
Man, Joe sure hopes the Bucs use the passing game more to open up rushing lanes. The offense is brilliantly crafted to succeed doing that, and it didn’t happen often enough last season for Joe’s taste.
Of course, Moore also mentioned more misdirection and play-action appearing late last season and the offense becoming better at disguising its intentions.
Joe is so ready to watch an offense that will rival the best in NFL history.

Packer running back stats are always overinflated. Why? Because AR masterfully uses the passing game to open the running game, and the running game succeeds beyond the normal ability of their backs, if they were on another team.

Put Brady in the no huddle, where he can pick apart tired vanilla defenses with Gronk and the Three Amigos, and throw in a run once in a while with Lenny or Rojo. I don’t know too many defenses that can stand up against that.

I like play action on first downs…….even if we don’t succeed, we are 2nd & 10 vs usually 2nd & 9……

Did the same Joe write that who believes we don’t need no stinkin’ running game? The beauty of having the weapons that we do is that it allows Brady to keep the defense totally off-balance.
Also love Dave Moore’s analysis that “motions to basically uncover what the defense was doing coverage-wise, front-wise”. With The GOAT making adjustments at the line, I don’t see how anyone but the top defenses could defend this attack, providing that Brady is having a good day (which he almost always does).

We should be deep enough at reciever right now to basically score at will late in games this year. If Brady feels like putting a stamp on the end of his career he has the horses to do it this season.
I could definitely see offensive output like the Patriots had in their almost undefeated season.

I’ve been a big fan of Dave Moore since his playing days. He often sees a part of the game that many of us miss somehow.
Too bad he’s not synched up to the TV broadcast.

For play action to be effective, you have to run the ball. Maybe not so much on 1st down, but we still need an effective run game. It also helps keep the other team from just going into pass rush mode and taking shots at the QB.

Ok, but let’s not use all of our ideas to be undefeated. Win enough for home field advantage. You get nothing for undefeated w a playoff loss.

Between Gene and Dave Mishkin we have some incredible highlights, insights, and a bit of magic✨🪄 . I would hate to lose either one. Unfortunately fingers crossed Gene is obviously up there in age. Hopefully he can get with the TB12 method and stay around another 15 years

In all reality there Aren’t many defenses that can contain Brady with all of those weapons. I see many picks coming from the secondary as teams will be playing from behind.

Think the majority of us believe that given the passing/ receiving skills of this team it should be a pass first game plan that then mixes in a running game enough to force defenses to try to defend both. Running up the gut over and over on first down is a pattern that gives the defense an undeserved advantage. Mix it up! Throw on first down often enough to force defenses to play their lbs and dbs further back of the line of scrimmage. Last year we ran on first down way too often and defenses set up for it. Let Tom come out throwing on any down and force defenses to try and cover both run or pass on every down. Run, pass, pass let’s defenses anticipate correctly way too often.
