Worst NFC Draft: 2007 Bucs

Bruce Almighty and Chucky were pilloried for their inability to draft. The bad Dexter Jackson was Exhibit A.
Vacation Man, of the Izvestia-like BSPN.com, writes about the worst draft classes in NFC South history. He believes the Bucs 2007 class is the worst. Consider, the first round draft pick is dead, the first of two second round picks is hiding, and the other second round draft pick should be hiding he’s such a goat.
1. 2007 by Tampa Bay.As I debated the demerits of what Atlanta and Tampa Bay did in this draft, it really came down to the fact that the Bucs hit the trifecta with their first three picks. They took Gaines Adams, Arron Sears and Sabby Piscitelli. You can’t really argue with that. Adams was a non-factor before the Bucs traded him to Chicago, Sears couldn’t play last year because of personal issues and Piscitelli showed last year that he can’t play. Safety Tanard Jackson, a fourth-round pick, has been a bright spot, but not enough to pull the Bucs out of the top spot.
Joe really hopes this 2007 draft class is a distant memory because this month’s draft class will be so dynamite.

Yep, Gruden is the worst thing to happen to the Bucs.
Thank the good Lord that we now have some real leadership in Raheem.

Joe-you didn’t mention we also took the third worse honors
with the 2003 class.No wonder we suck.Pleaseeee let this year

Gee… once Sears comes back this will in no way even be close to one of the worst drasft classes. In Decmber 2007 with 4 weeks to go in the season the Bucs were considered to have had the best draft class based on rookies contritutions so far during the season. Don Banks of SI.com does a Draft RE-Dux based rookie performance and if redrafted then he had three (3) Bucs going in the 1st round (Gaines Adams, Tanard Jackson & Aaron Sears) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/don_banks/12/06/draft.redo/
Give it a little more time. Most wait three years to evaluate drafts.

If memory serves me correctly, the 2007 Bucs went on to win the NFC South Title, followed by a home playoff loss to eventual Super Bowl Champion Giants.
So, poor draft but good team? Perhaps there is more than on way to skin a cat?
I know, I know, 9-7 is a disgrace and 3-13 is good.
One thing operation CRAP (Corrupt, Repulsive, Asinine Plan) requires is a willing suspension of disbelief, and things like actual records do not matter.
Its all about feeling good and the draft!
I fear that winning is the true “distant memory”.

Boy, some people don’t want to accept a bad draft class….
And ScottB, if you want to talk about cherry picking history, then one could point out that Mel Kiper announced during the 2005 Draft that if Michael Clayton was in the 2005 draft he’d be the number one overall pick after what he did his rookie year. Something tells me if Clayton was included in a “draft redux” today, for that 2005 draft, he’d go in the 5th round at earliest. You do realize Gaines Adams is dead right? It doesn’t matter what people though of him halfway through 2007!
I believe the Bucs were in the NFC South in 2002 when we drafted Marquise Walker, Travis Stephens et al. I mean, you can pretty much throw just about any Bucs Draft in the 2000’s out there and rate it poorly. Which sort of happens when you only have 1 pro bowl alternate drafted in that decade (Davin Joseph).
