Choose Your Trio

August 23rd, 2021

Honored

Former Bucs great Keyshawn Johnson played a game on ESPN TV yesterday.

The exercise was to look at starting quarterbacks and their two best weapons to determine what trios are the greatest in the NFL.

Joe was intrigued that Johnson named Tom Brady, Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette as the third best trio in the NFL. Interestingly, running backs did not have to be included. Johnson named the Chiefs’ trifecta of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill as the top-dog trio. Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Jones and Davante Adams ranked second.

Is Fournette the Bucs’ second most-valuable weapon? Some people think he’s not even the best running back on the roster.

So much this year will come down to Fournette’s mental state. He will know the offense thoroughly (Fournette arrived in September last year), and he’s coming off a four-game playoff performance that ignited his career after being benched in Week 14.

Plus, remember that as a raw talent, Fournette is one the greatest backs in the league.

Just imagine what this Tampa Bay offense looks like if Fournette keeps delivering what he did in four playoff games last season. Spread that production over a 17-game season, and that would play out to 1,275 yards rushing, 76 receptions and 17 touchdowns.

Still third behind KC and GB? Did they even watch the playoffs/SB? That’s fine I guess…I don’t want to be favored for anything. Let’s play with a chip on our shoulder! GO BUCS!

  2. Eric S Says:

raw talent lol that sounds like potential to me, he is not the best back on this team he got hot last year in the playoffs, good for him. I do not believe that’s what you will get for 17 games. Best back based on talent but remember has also been labeled soft since his LSU days!

  3. SlyPirate Says:

Best QB-WR-RB Trio discussion, I don’t see the Bucs or KC is in the Top 5.
    1. Packers: Rodgers, Adams, Jones
    2. Titans: Tannehill, Jones, Henry
    3. Browns: Mayfield, OBJ, Chubb
    4. Seahawks: Wilson, Carson, Metkalf
    5. Saints: Winston, Thomas, Kamara

(BTW, neither Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill is a running back.)

  4. Rod Munch Says:

    Uh…

Fournette isn’t better than Rojo, and neither are making a list of the top two weapons for Brady.

  5. Buc92’ Says:

Fournette soft a** will be gone after the season… Go Rojo!

    GoBucs!

  6. Alanbucsfan Says:

If anyone thinks Fournette is a more valuable weapon than Godwin , they haven’t been watching the Bucs carefully.

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady, Godwin & AB. Buc’s do not have a premier RB, but neither did Patriots since Curtis Martin. How did Gronk not make top 100 player list and 4 other TE’s did. The Bucs continue to get disrespected, Shaq way too low. I hope Brady doesn’t make the list, he will be pissed and we all know when he gets dissed.

  8. BA4President Says:

    Brady, Evans, Wirfs

  9. geno711 Says:

    @Slypirate.

Just to make the point, you changed the rules from top trio of weapons to top QB-RB-WR. Saying that:

I am fine with your number 1 choice.
For me, I think only 1 and 1/2 of your 2 thru 5 would be in my top 5.

For me, I envision when picking threats those guys in my list have to be in top 1/2 at their position as I envision moving forward this year (forget the past performances). Therefore, the Bucs do not have anyone because none of their running backs alone are in top 1/2 of starting running backs. Minnesota and New Orleans do not get in because their starting QB’s are not top half guys in my opinion.

So with too much ado about nothing maybe:

    Mahomes, CEH, Hill
Dak (if healthy), Elliott, Lamb (over Cooper moving forward this year)
Tannehill, Henry, AJ Brown (over Julio IMO moving forward this year)
    and
    Wilson, Carson, and Metcalf.

  10. Bobby M. Says:

Fournette benefited from Brady getting in sync with Evans, Godwin, Gronk, Miller, AB……the defense cant cover everyone. It was a pick your poison scenario…if you’re an opposing team you going to bet against Brady or Fournette? Guessing most would say let’s see if Fournette can beat us VS Brady.

  11. Kentucky Buc Says:

Some of u guys should stick to kick ball or synchronized swimming. Sheesh.

  12. Leighroy Says:

Slypirate, no KC or TB but your list includes jameis and baker? Puff puff pass my friend!

You do realize the bucs can’t have 53 players on the top 100 right? Fun fact, the bucs will have 8 players on the top 100 this year and that is the highest number for any team ever on the top 100 in any year. How is that disrespect?

    LJsDaddy

Just because the bucs won the super bowl does not mean they have the top trio. It means the bucs had the best TEAM!!! You know TEAM. The very thing I have been asking for for years. You can worry about having the best trio or best rb or best mlb. I will concern myself with having the best TEAM.

  14. Bird Says:

    Slypirate

You are aware michael thomas caught for less then 500 yards last year with zero touchdowns . Had zero catches vs bucs in playoffs. And will miss probably half the season this year as well. And no brees.

But hey. Lets put the saints in front of the bucs who have the best offense in the NFL. Tannehill 😂. Baker 😂

But i get it. You are a member of the messiah cult. Got to get your boy on there

  15. Gofortheface30 Says:

Slypirate – lay off the crank guy. Your list is just incomprehensibly GOOFY. Jameis Winston, Michael Thomas (have you read the news at all the past 2 yrs, my guess is no) Baker mayfield, Odell Beckham (AGAIN, have you paid attention at all the past few yrs.) What an absolute goofball take

  16. gotbbucs Says:

Raw talent means jack sh!t when you rarely have the heart to give it your all. I have yet to see Fournette run in the NFL like he did in college. Waste of talent describes him better.

He SHOULD be one of the greatest running backs in the NFL, but he’ll never live up to that potential because he doesn’t care about being that. He cares about saving himself for the next contract.

3.8 yards per carry and a diaper full of piss because he wasn’t given the starting job without a fight.

Keyshawn Johnson probably has the same agent as Fournette.

  17. Wild Bill Says:

Show me the money! Playoff Lenny was great. But I want to see the same effort and ability on every dam play. I need to see the same player every dam game in the regular season before calling him the bell cow back. Bet we know the answer in the first few regular season games.

  18. allbuccedup Says:

Rojo is a one dimensional running back. He could not even hold Fournettes jock strap. If playoff Lenny would get his head straight he could be the best running back in the NFL.

  19. buxszntkt Says:

wow ! now that is a REACH, Fournette the best running back in the NFL. The guy is good but doesn’t have good acceleration, burst, top end speed or agility.

  20. Izod Says:

I don’t see what the fuss is about, I’m not even sure if Brady-Evans-Fournette would be top 5 in the league (mostly because Fournette is NOT Top 5 at his position like the other two guys)… however, the Bucs have A LOT more good offensive players than any other team I can think of.

By “good” I mean maybe not elite, but just a half-notch or so lower. These are guys like Godwin, Gronk, RoJo, Fournette, Brate, AB, and even OJ Howard if he ever figures out how to play to his talent level.

Give me any team of 7,8,9, or 10 offensive players and I think the Bucs are either #1 or #2.
