Gameday Tampa Bay

August 14th, 2021

Preseason Game 1

Bengals at Bucs

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

TV: WFLA-TV Channel 8. (Game will also be broadcast in various TV markets throughout Florida and Alabama. Check your local listings).

Streaming: Fans may stream the broadcast from Buccaneers.com or on a mobile device using one of the following: Buccaneers official app or Yahoo! Sports app. Geographic restrictions apply.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region; WVFT 93.3 FM in Tallahassee (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa); SiriusXM Channel 228 (Bucs broadcast).

Weather: It is summer. It is Florida. But per AccuWeather.com, the Bucs and fans may luck out on the rain. Kickoff temperature should be 84 and is expected to drop below 80 in the fourth quarter. There is a less than 37 percent chance of rain except at game’s end where it rises to 47 percent.

Odds: Per BetMGM, as of 2 p.m. Saturday, Bucs -6; 33.5-under.

Outlook:  The goal of any worthless preseason game is no injuries. If Joe had to put a value on any preseason game, as much as it pains Joe to type this, then Joe would love to see Joe Tryon blow up Bengals quarterbacks (Joe Burrow is not playing). Of course, do the Bucs want Tryon to show his poker hand in a preseason game so the Cowboys can get tape of him? Unlikely. And Joe would love to see Jaelon Darden do well both in the return game and at receiver. Also, Joe wants to see the progression of Tyler Johnson. He stupidly came to training camp out of shape but has slowly gotten better and better each week in camp. He could be on the bubble if he stinks the joint up. The rest of the team? Joe saw enough last year. 🙂

The Last Word: Please Bucco Bruce Arians, get your starters off the field as soon as you can.

Enjoy TAMPA TWO, presented by Converged Technology Professionals.

Preseason Game 1 is on the docket, and more. More fun from The Identity Tampa Bay & Joe.

I sure hope that WFLA has a live stream during game time or I’m screwed.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

    Nice

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

Hopefully we wax the Bengals like a hairy lady

  4. Bird Says:

    Jugs

  5. DoooshLaRue Says:

How many times have we played the Bengals in preseason?
Seems like almost every year to me.

  6. SOEbuc Says:

    Bird

Was there good news in the post? Lol

  7. Joe Says:

Seems like almost every year to me.

Remember as a rookie Kwon Alexander rocking Stewart McClown’s world.

Or was that the Browns? 🙂

  8. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Bengals are wise not to play Joe Burrows against our pass rush.

  9. View from 132 Says:

Awesome. Televised football tryouts are back. Pre-season is still a top 3 reason I gave up my season tickets. They shouldn’t even wear the real uniforms unless the game counts. College has a lot of flaws, but when you see the teams on the field, the game counts.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Joes: why do you consider preseason games worthless?

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

View from 132, while I do feel the preseason games should be free to season ticket holders, I do feel they matter…to the players trying out for the team, and to coaches trying to gauge those players.

And by the time they roll around, we’re all pretty much desperate for NFL.

  12. DBS Says:

Well if Joe does not like preseason games he is most welcome not to watch. Some of us will enjoy watching it more than college games that mean nothing to us. Much rather see guys trying to make our team anyway or some team in the NFL.

  13. Tim Looten Says:

    Will Trask get playtime?

  14. Mike C Says:

Did you see how last year’s preseason helped us?

  15. Bird Says:

    3 hours boyz and girlz

    Cant wait to see tryon

  16. Bird Says:

Ndog and el bucco sucko will be watching in their one bedroom apartment with bunk beds – now known as the den of depression

  17. Leighroy Says:

Joe, did you see Jalen Darden, Kyle Trask or the late round LBs we drafted last year? Depth could be critical; we lucked out last year. I want to see that the 2nd string is capable of defeating a weaker Bengals opponent.

  18. Buczilla Says:

Football! Finally! Preseason sure, but better than nothing.

Some numbnut over on NFL.com has our Bucs as the sixth (?!?) best offense in the NFL. The dumb just keep getting dumber. The nerve of that fool! Lol

  19. Buxszntkt Says:

I’m looking forward to seeing if Tryon can sack the QB and Darden can get some great returns. Since I don’t give a crapppe about college football I’m interested to see what Trask can do as well . Didn’t know he existed until the draft, lol !

  20. Infomeplease Says:

Football season is back!! Go BUCS!!!

  21. SOEbuc Says:

College football allows DBs to play cover and the NFL doesn’t allow sacks up the middle anymore. NCAA has the money and the ratings that they don’t pay their athletes with. NFL doesn’t care about the health of the players, but if Mahomes or Rodgers goes down with a serious injury for the year, the ratings drop big time. I don’t mention Brady because there is not a large Bucs national fan base.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

SOEbuc says there is not a national fan base for the Bucs, but that is changing!
The entire New England area still loves Tom Brady, and statistics have shown they are watching us!

  23. PassingThru Says:

Is this game streaming anywhere? I’m outside of the Tampa Bay area.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

I hate Chris Meyers. He’s such a douooche.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

PassingThru – If you’re outside the US, you can get Game Pass for the preseason for free…

  26. Rod Munch Says:

A first down run by Leftwich! Right where he left off.

  27. BuccoDav Says:

    Giovanni!!!

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Run up the middle! Classic Leftwich!

  29. PassingThru Says:

Thanks Rod, but I’m domestic in greater Boston. Nothing that I subscribe to is carrying this game.

  30. DaBux Says:

And that’s why we got Gio!

  31. BuccoDav Says:

    should have been caught

  32. DaBux Says:

    That was a good pass.

  33. Medicated Pete Says:

Deckerhoff screwing up names on 1st play of game. BRUTAL

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Well it’s preseason for Leftwich… that was a terribly called series. Hopefully that wasn’t scripted.

Calm down, I’m just busting chops. It’s preseason game 1.

  35. DaBux Says:

And remember it’s preseason. But hey, if we feel better, let’s panic.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

Call me old fashion, but people who hate on Gene, yet will praise a dullard like Chris Meyers, should be thrown into the sea of ebola, then dipped in COVID.

    But that’s just me.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Alright, Brady made his appearance, get him out of the game. Along with all the other starters.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

The stupid Bengals aren’t playing their starters – we are, and we look terrible so far.

Should be a good wake up call for what’s left of training camp.

  39. NashvilleBuc Says:

Is anyone successfully streaming this anywhere? The Bucs site and app says the game is not active.

  40. TBSwarm Says:

    Way to go LD!

  41. Rod Munch Says:

NashvilleBuc – I’ve temporarily relocated to the UK for this game, and will be back home a few mins after the game. Anywho, NFL Game Pass is streaming it just fine.

  42. Rod Munch Says:

Gabbert throws it into the ground… classic Gabbert!

  43. Rod Munch Says:

Gabbert throws it too high… classic Gabbert!

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Defense is hitting hard. Looking good.

We gonna be a force to be reckoned with if they take off from where they left off.

  45. BuccoDav Says:

Geez! I was just about to blast GooGoo Gabbert…

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Alright, Gabbert got one completed pass, time to see Trask.

  47. Rod Munch Says:

    Nice move by Vaughn there.

Also was good to see OJ get in there and get some yards. He is going to be huge to have back if he can stay healthy.

  48. BuccoDav Says:

    Good run, KV!

  49. Rod Munch Says:

…give Vaughn some credit, and then he acts like Ronald Jones trying to catch a pass and drops it.

  50. Elita Vita Says:

    A sophomore jump for Vaughn?

  51. JimmyJack Says:

Blaine is engineering a nifty little drive here. Already got us into FG range.

  52. Rod Munch Says:

Where is everybody, it’s too quiet in here. Normally there’s the guy who hates everything that happens, the other guy who will mention Winston after every missed pass and the guy who says beating the 2nd team Bengals defense on a drive proves we’re going to go undefeated and win the SB.

  53. BuccoDav Says:

    The Immortal Tanner Hudson!

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Wow that was a damm good throw over the middle to Tanner!! NIce hands fir Hudson as well. TD upcoming!!

  55. Jmarkbuc no Says:

Looks like you’ve got it covered, Rod.

  56. Rod Munch Says:

    Really nice catch by Hudson.

I don’t know how you can get to that level, be so good at catching the ball, and not put in the effort needed to block. Look at Brate, he’s not any good at blocking, but puts in the effort and is good enough to stick around. It sounds like Hudson lacks that extra effort, which stinks, since I think he could be a new and cheaper Brate with more effort.

  57. BuccoDav Says:

    Woohoo!

  58. JimmyJack Says:

    Please make this kick

  59. Rod Munch Says:

Nice effort by Vaughn on that drive. Hudson made a great catch. OJ had a nice catch and run.

Gabbert had some throws that ever QB should be able to make, and he missed balls all over the place, but had some nice catches to bail him out. If he ever had to play in the regular season, the team is in huge trouble.

  60. BradyBucs Says:

Gabbert’s accuracy is TERRIBLE. Bad pass too high for Vaughn on that almost Pick-6 deflection. Then that 1st and goal pass to the backup TE. How do you throw to a guy wide open in the flat and blast it way over his head? That was an easy TD that he blew.

  61. JimmyJack Says:

Not much a look at the first team offense but it was nice to see Bernard know right where the 1st down was and plow ahead to get it.

Bradys deep ball looked good so hes still got it and Gronk is still a lot of fun to watch off the line.

  62. Rod Munch Says:

Who is the special teams coach?

  63. Medicated Pete Says:

Wirfs almost got Brady killed on that sack. Sophomore slump alert

  64. jugheadfla Says:

I was gonna say, did they change the extra point back to the 2 yard line this year? I guess not….lol

  65. Rod Munch Says:

How do you have the biggest coaching staff in the NFL and not know the rules on how to kick an extra point?

It’s preseason, so hopefully whoever is responsible gets fired before it counts.

  66. BradyBucs Says:

The “Nosepickers” secondary played like garbage and were lucky that Lavonte bailed them out with the strip.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

Well big thing the starters got out of the game with no apparently injuries. Thank goodness.

  68. JimmyJack Says:

Hey guys. Blaine is a backup QB for a reason. He missed some throws but he also made a couple of nice ones. Would of like to see him pull the trigger on that Biscuit……I saw him looking for it.

  69. jugheadfla Says:

I thought they found a loophole in the longer extra point or something, whatever, who cares its preseason, no one gives a shart

  70. Rod Munch Says:

I still can’t get over how they don’t know how to kick the extra point… Wow…

What is even the idea there? Can you drop kick the XP from the 2?

That was just one of the strangest mistakes I can imagine.

  71. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Did words give up the sack on Brady?

  72. Thisisouryear!! Says:

    Wirfs

  73. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – But Gabbert didn’t make any nice throws, he made some standard NFL throws you’d expect from any QB on any roster to make, and he missed a bunch of throws that should have been easy. He stinks and I don’t like him. I’d rather have Griffin out there even with his noodle arm, at least there is the hope he might not suck if needed – I mean he likely would, but at least you have hope.

Also on the extra point – that is so bizarre, I don’t get it. It’s a big deal in that the coaches apparently don’t know the basic rules – and the players didn’t either? That was insanely sloppy.

  74. David Says:

    JOE
When did the extra point move back to normal?

  75. Thisisouryear!! Says:

David- I had to look it up. It’s still the 30 yds.

  76. jugheadfla Says:

    @David it didn’t….lol

  77. Rod Munch Says:

On the XP, I believe you have to say if you want to go for 2 or not, you can’t change that after you’re set without calling a TO, you can’t just request the ball to be moved.

I believe those are the rules – but I’m also not making 6 or 7 figures as a coach, if I did, I’d know for certain.

  78. BradyBucs Says:

Rod is about to eat more crow when Trask comes into this game and throws the ball downfield which Rod claims he can’t do.

  79. BuccoDav Says:

It is ridiculous to think the coaches don’t know the rules for extra points. The preseason is for exploring and experimenting…

  80. Thisisouryear!! Says:

It’s preseason. Just be ready for Dallas.

  81. TBSwarm Says:

Lol not sure if he punch the ball or the receiver haha

  82. JimmyJack Says:

Our defense is flying all over the place. Two drive 2 game changing plays.

  83. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch I thought the throw to Hudson at the 2 yardline was pretty sweet.

  84. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I like Vaughn more than fournette.

  85. Jmarkbuc Says:

So can you lineup at the 30 and fake the XP kick and throw a pass for two?

  86. Bucschamp Says:

    fumblinaaa

  87. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – What I’ve said about Trask is his college tape doesn’t show any zip on the ball. Throwing deep and zip aren’t the same thing.

Also what I’ve asked is if in camp, is he showing more zip. Players can add zip at the sake of accuracy, generally, if they have the arm.

    Gets the basics right, dummy.

  88. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – I thought it was a great catch by Hudson, because the ball was poorly thrown. But fair enough, it was a good result.

  89. BuccoDav Says:

Look at the big guy with the moves!

  90. JimmyJack Says:

Pretty cool on that TD drive and now on this drive Im thinking…..Who is this #1? He looks pretty good.

Its Darden. They may have found a keeper.

  91. Rod Munch Says:

Jmarkbuc – the ball is moved to the 15 for the XP, not the 30 (but it is a 33 yard FG which is maybe what they mean) — and as far as I know you can only kick from there. If you want to go for 2, you declare it before the play, and the ball is moved to the 2.

But once the ball is set, you can’t just ask the refs to move the ball back to kick. That’s why what the Bucs did was so bizarre.

  92. BuccoDav Says:

Rod, who cares? It is preseason. Maybe they just wanted to see how a defense might react to a formation. Let it go.

  93. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Can’t see the game..

    What they did sounds bizarre…

I meant the 15, and have always wondered if you could fake it from there… hell of a lot harder than from the two… they should allow that kind of moxie..😂😂

  94. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

Nonsense. When he was drafted you cried about and you said the tape on him showed he couldn’t “move the ball downfield” because he lacked the arm strength to make deeper throws in the NFL.

You cried and cried about his lack of arm strength, which isn’t even true. He’s incredibly accurate because he doesn’t have to throw it as hard as he can on every pass like other QB do.

You said he couldn’t be an effective NFL QB because his arm strength.

You said he can’t “push the ball downfield.”

Don’t try and go back on your words now. Watch how Trask will prove you wrong.

  95. Rod Munch Says:

BuccoDav – Not knowing the rules is a big deal, even for preseason. The special teams have been the weak point of this team for years now, and dumb mistakes like that are inexcusable. Literally whoever thought that was a good idea should be fired – if you don’t know the basic rules, you shouldn’t be in the NFL.

  96. JimmyJack Says:

Our 2nd team offense looks like a well oiled machine out there. Granted, I think the Bengals got a lousy defense but i bet a big part is that we are pretty deep on that side of the ball.

  97. JimmyJack Says:

I was hoping to see more 3and outs from our D. Wanna see Darden get some returns……..Nothing special on his kick return.

  98. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – What I said is he doesn’t throw with zip and in the NFL those are INTs because the ball hangs in the air. The reason I say that is because I saw Danny Wuerffel throw those same rainbow passes in college and then in the NFL he was a disaster (although a 4th round disaster).

But what I said is not original to me, there’s tons of scouts who all say the same thing and question his arm strength. Which, again, doesn’t mean you can’t throw deep, it does however mean you can’t throw deep with the zip needed for the NFL – you can’t drive the ball.

The Bucs coaches said that he has plenty of arm strength, which goes against nearly every scouting report I saw and goes against his tape. What they might mean, which is also what I said, is that they believe he can throw with zip, but he just didn’t need to in college, which is also what I said might be what was happening.

In any case I want to see if he can throw with zip in the NFL. I’ve seen nothing from him in camp and I really haven’t heard anyone talk about him, which is why seeing him in the game is by far the most interesting thing to come from this game. I want to see if he can drive the ball or not.

  99. BuccoDav Says:

    OMG!

  100. Rod Munch Says:

… INT, then give the ball back up and give the Bengals a new set of downs… Gosh.

Good INT, gotta hold onto the ball.

  101. TBSwarm Says:

    Lolololol

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Anyone know the Bengals depth chart? Are they playing 2nds or 3rds here?

  103. BuccoDav Says:

That was a great INT! after that, not so good.

  104. JimmyJack Says:

What in the absolute hell was that. This guy Hagan just went from making the roster to off the team in one play.

  105. Rod Munch Says:

Why do you as a defensive player get up and look for a flag? All that does is encourage the ref to throw the flag.

  106. JimmyJack Says:

Actually Hagan has looked really good all half. Wont be suprized to see him make the team if he can keep it up

  107. jugheadfla Says:

yea, that was unfortunate for Hagan but dude is making plays all over the field. Putting it on tape as they say

  108. Rod Munch Says:

That was still an excellent INT, you’re not getting cut for that bobble, but you’re probably going to be doing some extra ball handling routines.

  109. BradyBucs Says:

Haha JAMEL DEAN sucks so bad they put him back into the game to get more experience against scrubs.

  110. BuccoDav Says:

    why wasn’t that intentional grounding?

  111. Rod Munch Says:

Davis looked pretty quick on that intentional grounding

How the hell did they not call that intentional grounding. WOW!

  112. jugheadfla Says:

what a BS flag, are you serious?

  113. Rod Munch Says:

F OFF WITH THAT POONTANG S–T

Give me a break, hitting someone too hard. F-c-ing skirts.

  114. BuccoDav Says:

It doesn’t get cleaner than that!

  115. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

Trask is no Wuerffel. Wuerffel threw floaters.

Anyway I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at Trask. I’ve seen him play a lot.

  116. cmurda Says:

Beautiful play Tryon. Welcome to the NFL. No hitting allowed. WTF can Tryin do to avoid that. Terrible job NFL.

  117. Rod Munch Says:

That’s what you get when you market to women, a bunch of soft crap like that.

  118. JimmyJack Says:

    Hitting to hard penalty

  119. cmurda Says:

You may rush the quarterback but you may not touch the quarterback. Signed, Roger Goodell.

  120. JimmyJack Says:

I only wish they would not insult our intelligent. You called a penalty because he hit him too hard. Dont try to call it something else.

Just call it what it is. 15 yard pentalty….#9 Tampa Bay….15 yards for hitting just a bit too hard.

  121. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – Well that’s what I’m hoping for. To me, his college take reminds me so much of Wuerffel, but everyone knows those guys don’t translate to the NFL. But I’m not staked in on my position, I want to be wrong, and I assume I’m wrong because I can’t believe the Bucs would take him that high if they didn’t think he could drive the ball. But I’ve been curious to see him, to see how the ball looks comes out of his hand at the NFL level. I’m not rooting against him at all and can’t wait to see him.

  122. GMC hater Says:

Wtf is tryon supposed to do? Ask him nicely to sit down?

  123. Rod Munch Says:

Mark Barron was the first player I remember being nailed with hitting a QB too hard, when he destroyed RGIII, with a perfect form sack that looked violent. I really hate this wussification of the NFL.

  124. JimbobBucsFan Says:

That call on Tryon was pure and unadulterated BS! If that kin of call stands and is allowed in the regular season you can put another nail in the coffin of NFL football.

They are turning it into a game for candy asses!

  125. jugheadfla Says:

Tryon looking like the second coming of Simeon Rice!

  126. Jerry R Jones Says:

Apparently Tryon should have picked the QB up, run him into the EZ and spike him.

  127. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

Trask is a lot more accurate than Wuerffel and threw more TD passes. He throws nothing like Wuerffel. Trask puts touch on the ball on some routes to increase the odds of it being caught not because he couldn’t throw it harder. He’s an incredible SMART QB and great at reading Defenses.

  128. Rod Munch Says:

Tryon again with good penetration. Damn, move him up and let’s see him against the 1st team guys, he’s too good for these scrubs, even if the refs are doing everything possible to give the game to the Bengals.

The question is why? Why are these refs in the Bengals pocket?

  129. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – I hope you’re right, we’ll find out soon enough.

  130. David Says:

    Wow

    BS call on Tryon.
    BS call on Dean.

  131. cmurda Says:

I hope these young defenders continue to play just like they are. Dean played that terrifically and Tryons sack was beautiful. The players can’t control all the phantom calls but they are playing very well.

  132. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Dean is a 1 contract guy. Bye soon.

  133. JimmyJack Says:

This drive is remining me of the lost decades……We stop a drive 3 times. But we gag up a fumble and get two ticky tack calls go against us.

  134. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Definitely interference on Dean. Easy call. He’s just not good.

  135. David Says:

BradyBuc… You are correct. I don’t understand where people think Trask is inaccurate, probably people who didn’t watch him play.
He makes good decisions and is accurate.
To me, he was a lot like Mac Jones except he took more chances.

Can’t wait to see him play

  136. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Both Tryon and Darden have looked good so far.

  137. Rod Munch Says:

David – Trask is very accurate, the question is can he add zip and KEEP his accuracy. Again, it’s a question — not a statement. I’m not rooting against him, I just want to see him do it.

  138. JimmyJack Says:

OK refs stop fondeling each other and lets go. I dont know why they dont scale back replay. This is not good football.

  139. Rod Munch Says:

Block the XP and return for 2 points. LFG!

  140. Rod Munch Says:

Nope, saying it didn’t make it happen.

    Oh well, I tried.

  141. JimmyJack Says:

#52 missed 3 tackles so far that i saw. Our backup Dline is a disappointment. Our top unit doesnt not allow them to cram it in. No way no how.

  142. Rod Munch Says:

Ask Arians about the extra point you hack.

  143. Rod Munch Says:

Question to Arians should have been… What the hell were your coaches thinking on that extra point? Are they aware of the rules and who is getting fired for that? Go.

  144. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Words regressing in camp and preseason. These kids need to be reminded not to read their own press.

  145. JimbobBucsFan Says:

That call on Tryon was pure and unadulterated BS! If that is the kind of call on defense that has become the norm for the regular season you can put another nail in the coffin for the “football” part of NFL!

It will go the way of professional baseball for me. I won’t watch it anymore! The game will have become a game for CANDY ASSES!

  146. JimmyJack Says:

Yuck i just looked it up. #52 is rookie K.J. Britt. He looks terrible out there. Looks like he has a good head on his shoulders because he is getting to the right spots……..but if your just gonna wiff on every tackle it kinda defeats the purpose.

He looks lkke he might be a good player if he can figure out how to finish plays. Still a long way to go for now.

  147. JimmyJack Says:

Watching the replays. K.J. Britt recovered the 2nd fumble. So gotta give him some credit for fininshing that play.

  148. Jim Says:

Rod munch: it’s preseason you Trash Bag…

  149. JimmyJack Says:

Reguarding the call on Joe Tryon, I hate it but its not BS. When you hit the QB that hard they are gonna call it everytime. Welcome to modern day football.

It sucks but players have to finish that play differently. And if you are mad about that call remind yourself of that stance if Brady gets hit hard.

No biggy for Tryon. The young man probably got a bit too excited in the moment. In the end it led to a TD and he had to learn the hard way. Let him learn it in preseason and be more solid when it counts.

  150. Rod Munch Says:

Britt is a thumper, but lacks speed. Likely will be a good special teams player who might be OK against the run, but will get killed in the passing game.

  151. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Maybe they’re showcasing Griffin for other teams.

  152. Rod Munch Says:

No one is trading for Griffin… I think they’re just giving him some reps since he’ll be the QB on the extra COVID practice squad spot.

Also stinks for Johnson, sounds like he finally dug himself out of the hole he created at the beginning of camp…

  153. Rod Munch Says:

I was waiting for the refs to take this INT off the board… LOL! What a bunch of jacka– refs.

  154. Rod Munch Says:

Chris Meyers is such a d-bag.

  155. JimbobBucsFan Says:

This is obviously pre-season for this refs’ crew!!!!!

  156. Medicated Pete Says:

Put in Tom Brady’s successor & heir apparent, Kyle…

  157. Rod Munch Says:

This has been an awful game so far.

Hopefully we get to see Trask here soon and he does something good.

  158. JimmyJack Says:

Thisisouryear……..I been thinking the same thing. The Bucs already know they are keeping Blaine and Ryan. So give Griffen as many snaps as they can and help him get picked up by another team.

Lots of teams do this for players and help them get as much film out there that they can.

  159. Oxycodoms Says:

The intensity from brady on sideline of first preseason game in second half is why hes the goat

  160. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – No one is picking up Griffin. I like him, I’d much rather have him than Gabbert as the backup, but no one is picking up a guy at his age, with a limited arm and no experience. He’s going to be on the extra practice squad spot created by COVID – and he’ll be the 3rd QB this season, although technically he won’t be on the roster. Everything you see and read says they’re bringing along Trask very slowly.

But frankly if the Brady gets hurt, the Bucs are in big trouble and it’s not going to matter who the QB is.

  161. JimmyJack Says:

Things are not going Tyler Johnsons way at all. Didnt see much of the replay but didnt look like a hard catch like Ronde Barber said.

Dont know how much has to go wrong for this guy to be a bubble player…..I hope he does.

  162. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

    *Wirfs

  163. BradyBucs Says:

    TRASK TIME!!!

Get this bum Griffin out there. He’s not making the team so why waste the Reps.

Trask is the future, get him some playing time.

  164. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch I dont know the backup situations around the league. Or the 3rd string QBs for that matter. Even if nobody needs a backup that can change peetty rapidly.

  165. BradyBucs Says:

LOL @ Griffin and his multiple interceptions.

    LET’S GO TRASK!!!

  166. JimbobBucsFan Says:

    Griffin’s fault on that one!

  167. cmurda Says:

Yikes. Ryan G looks horrible. Terrible reads. It’s year 8 dude. No. Keep Trask and Gabbert. There’s no need for Ryan G at all. Use that spot elsewhere.

  168. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – One of the other big Bucs sites said Trask hasn’t been great in terms of learning the system, saying he’s been viewing this as a redshirt year and the team wants him balling out like he’s going to be starting. If that is true, they might not trust him to play a full half.

Again, I’m not rooting against him, just relaying what I heard and why he might not be in there.

  169. BradyBucs Says:

Griffin is DEMORALIZING this team with team with his garbage play. They better yank him and sit hit butt down.

  170. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Welcome to the “Not For Long”, rookie!

  171. Rod Munch Says:

What was wrong with that hit? He didn’t hit the guy in the head, he hit him in the chest.

Wow, are they becoming a bunch of fruits in the NFL.

  172. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch that said……I just saw some of Ryan Griffins tape on the INT…..Yeah, he might not be sought after too much after all.

  173. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

That may be the case but they could still let him run a limited playbook to get some NFL game experience even if it’s a preseason game against scrubs.

  174. JimmyJack Says:

Somebody wake Joe up and show him that hit. Preseason football is fun as hell.

  175. BradyBucs Says:

    TRASK WARMING UP!!!

  176. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Why didn’t they call one one on Brooks. He touched his guy!!!!!
    Ph#ck!!!

  177. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Griffin lead the NFL in preseason passing for 2 years in a row I think and had a super high QB rating, he generally has excelled. Not sure what he’s doing tonight, he’s been really sloppy. But his age and limited arm is why he’s not going to get a call from anyone else. He’s done what, had like 1 drive during the regular season in his 7-year career.

BradyBucs – I agree with you, I want to see him.

  178. JimmyJack Says:

BradyBucs calm down. Trask will get in and he will have the chance to lead us to victory. Looking like he will get the whole 4th Q or more.

  179. Rod Munch Says:

JimbobBucsFan – No kidding, I kept waiting for a flag since they’re throwing one on nearly every play.

  180. Medicated Pete Says:

Ryan Griffin has stolen every penny from the NFL. Cut him after the game

  181. Rod Munch Says:

Leftwich, 1st down run up the middle!

    He’s in midseason form!

  182. Rod Munch Says:

Alright, so that deep ball had acceptable velocity – but his accuracy was off…

  183. Rod Munch Says:

That’s an incomplete pass you idiot refs.

  184. BradyBucs Says:

    TERRIBLE PROTECTION

  185. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch if your talking about 2nd or 3rd string QBs arm strenght is not a deal breaker. Lots of times with a 3rd stringer your just looking for somebody who can manage the huddle.

  186. Rod Munch Says:

We should see a few drives with Trask, so hopefully they let him air it out a few more times.

But what I saw was good there, the ball wasn’t on the money, but it didn’t hang — that’s the big thing to me. So that was a positive, even though it was incomplete.

  187. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,

Griffin has been a dink-n-dunker for years. He’s too conservative and rarely throws down field or hard over the middle.

  188. JimmyJack Says:

Trask has a job to do right now and that job is to lead us to victory. Find us another biscuit Byron

  189. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

He has no Favre/Allen arm cannon but it’s strong enough to make the throws needed in the NFL.

  190. Rod Munch Says:

That 2003 Bucs defense got exposed because they had no depth. Brian Kelly got hurt in that Indy MNF game and they had garbage as backups. Manning picked on the replacement player over and over again – other teams followed. The lack of depth killed them after they lost Dexter Jackson, then moved Dwight Smith, the 3rd corner to safety, and then they had no depth at corner. Losing Kelly was the crack in the damn that killed them.

I’m not sure why Brian Kelly doesn’t get more love as being a key clog of a defense, he was an excellent corner for a long, long time.

  191. BradyBucs Says:

Winston has a stronger arm than Trask, and not to knock on Winston, but at some point accuracy and decision-making trumps arm strength if your arm is decent.

  192. Wesley Says:

Mr irrelevant looking relevant so far.

  193. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – Yeah, I don’t care if he has a strong arm or not, he just needs to have an acceptable arm. So long as he shows that I’m happy.

  194. Armybucfan Says:

These refs are killing us. On the PI and roughing the passer calls. But grifs throwing some crappy balls.

  195. Armybucfan Says:

Player of the game have been the refs. Cause they have had the biggest negative impact on this game lmao.

  196. JimmyJack Says:

Blaine has been our best QB tonight.

  197. Rod Munch Says:

When I played this preseason game in Madden 22, I pulled out a 45-38 victory after a very sloppy start after not playing since last year. Fournette was the backup RB so he played most of the game and had 178 yards and 3 TDs. Trask had over 300 yards and 2 TDs in 3 quarters. For the preseason Fournette ended up just short of 700 yards, he kept breaking long TDs against the scrubs.

  198. firethecannons Says:

why isnt jaelon darden playing and returning punts?

  199. Rod Munch Says:

Ronde is reading the comments here! Using the word velocity.

  200. D-Rome Says:

Trask already looks better than Jay-Miss.

  201. Rod Munch Says:

So far so good with Trask, he doesn’t look out of place, the ball is getting there. That’s really all I wanted to see from him. I feel dramatically better about him.

  202. Rod Munch Says:

D-Rome <– there's the Winston guy! Called it!

  203. David Says:

    Trask looks pretty damn good.
Tryon showed done great penetration and disruption ability.
    Darden looks great!

A lot of other young players need to step it up. I’ve seen missed tackles, missed blocks, dropped balls etc.

  204. BradyBucs Says:

    Nice, Rod.

Like I said, all the “lack of arm strength” stuff that hurt his draft stock was so overblown.

As you could see on that bullet he threw over the middle to Hudson for that 1st down, he as a strong arm when he wants to throw it harder. But he’s like a pro golfer that only uses 80% power off the tee to favor accuracy instead. Just like that throw to Mickens in between 3 defenders, it was more of a touch & timing pass to complete it. Many QBs try and throw a “fast ball” to fit it into that window rather than time it perfectly and accurately instead.

Trask definitely should have been drafted in the top 15 picks of the 1st round. Bucs got a steal. It’s why Licht/Arians said they were even tempted to pull the trigger on Trask with pick #32 in the 1st round.

  205. Elita Vita Says:

Proud of Trask. This year on the sidelines under Brady learning I think he will be a nice starting quarterback. High ceiling. Let’s go Bucs

  206. JimmyJack Says:

Seems a little hit or miss from Trask. But I like his pocket presence.

  207. Buczilla Says:

A lot of so called draft experts were all over the place about Trask’s arm strength. Noodle arm, cannon for an arm, etc.. From this little snippet tonight, his arm looks more than good enough.

  208. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – Well if that’s the case, Licht will get a ton of credit for it. Hopefully it will be a few years before we have to worry about him being a boom or bust.

  209. David Says:

Who is the linebacker with the long red hair?

That dude has been out of position on every pass play and seems to be very slow

  210. BradyBucs Says:

    TRASK!!!!!!

Big boy can avoid rushers to buy time. He did the same at Florida all the time. Benefit of being a 6’5” QB.

  211. David Says:

    Munch
    BradyBucs

I don’t get it either. I watch the Florida games and he has arm strength. More importantly though, he makes decisions and he’s accurate, I’ll take that over arm strength any day.
But as you can see, his arm is more than strong enough

  212. Elita Vita Says:

These Refs sure seem to need the preseason practice. Hope they get their act together for the regular season!

  213. David Says:

I’ve only seen Trask make one inaccurate throw. I don’t count the deep balls that were slightly overthrown as inaccurate.

  214. JimmyJack Says:

David that guy with the long hair was the very last guy picked in the whole entire draft…….Basically the fat kid from school yard dodgeball.

  215. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – I don’t care if Trask is hit or miss or not at this point, I just wanted to see him make some NFL throws. His college accuracy was very good, and NFL accuracy will come with time – and protection. What I was worried about is that he’d have to put so much into his NFL throws the ball would be going all over the place, and that isn’t the case.

So this is a very positive debut in my opinion.

  216. Rod Munch Says:

The Bengals should have Zubaz pants like the Tampa Bay Storm used to have.

  217. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch thats a good bottom line for a development QB. And for sure he looks like he can throw the ball anywhere on the field.

And worth noting the deep ball he threw down the right sideline would almost always be completed for a big play if he is theowing to our top recievers.

  218. BradyBucs Says:

For those Bucs fans who didn’t watch a lot of Trask’s games and Florida, the guy is truly SPECIAL. His ability to read Defenses and his decision-making is far above average. He’s very accurate AND smart about the risks he takes.

There’s hasn’t been a Gator QB in a long time that’s an NFL caliber pocket passer, until Trask.

Florida has had some high powered Offenses over the years. For Trask, in really only his full year as a starter, to break the Florida record for most TD passes in a season is RIDICULOUS.

  219. Rod Munch Says:

NFL should go to 2 preseason games with 18 regular season games and 2 bye weeks. They did 2 bye weeks back in 1993, and today, with NFL Redzone, having bye weeks is kind of cool since you can watch everything else going on.

  220. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

David that be Mr Irrelevant Grant Stuard the red headed Rick Flair Hair

  221. David Says:

Damn, none of these receivers trying to make a practice squad are getting any kind of separation

  222. BradyBucs Says:

McPhearson has dropped TWO Trask passes that hit him in the hands.

  223. Rod Munch Says:

Trask has played well enough that he should get snaps earlier in the game next week. Hopefully he can get some snaps with the 3rd teamers instead of the 4th teamers.

  224. Rod Munch Says:

Let’s get a stop here and then Trask can lead the team on a game winning drive.

  225. David Says:

    Munch

Just an opinion but I completely disagree. I think they should’ve kept it at 16 games and dropped to three preseason games.
They are hypocrites. So concerned about safety but they add another game for the money.
It’s bad enough watching a bunch of back ups and it’s only going to be worse with the more games they play because of the injuries.

I know fans and the starters hate preseason but there are dozens of other players who need it to try to get a job.

  226. David Says:

I agree, I’d like to see Trask play a little earlier next week to get some reps with a little better protection and some receivers that can get a little separation

  227. Rod Munch Says:

David – Well I don’t care about the players safety, they’re paid a ton of money to entertain people. My point was if they’re going to play 20 games anyways, and they’re not going to cut games and hurt their ticket revenue, then I’d rather they just go to 18-2 instead of 17-3. Also adding the extra bye weeks give players a bit more time in the season to recover.

I think I like 16 regular season games the best – but I’ll let you know how I feel about 17 after the year.

  228. Lamarcus Says:

Trash(k) needs to be taken out

  229. David Says:

Man there has been a lot of drops

  230. Rod Munch Says:

That sideline pass, with Evans, Godwin or AB is caught, so another good pass by Trask.

I’m impressed so far, even if the box score isn’t going to show it.

  231. cmurda Says:

Kyle has absolutely no prayer. 3rd stringers or not my goodness. 3 Bengals in the backfield on every snap

  232. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Same rod I would rather see Trask not play with the dudes that are going to be working a bunch of different day jobs next month.

  233. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

They’re giving Trask a lot of work. That Jonsen incompletion was worth looking over again

  234. BradyBucs Says:

That pass on 2nd down has to be caught!!! Hit the WR right in the hands!!!

  235. David Says:

    Lamarcus
obviously is not watching the same game because Trask has been pretty damn good.
He’s playing with mostly lineman and receivers who aren’t even going to be on a practice squad.
Half a linemen can’t block and most the receivers can’t get separation and they’re dropping a lot of balls.

  236. cmurda Says:

I guess I’m no longer welcome on JBF. Nowhere near cursing and every post goes to moderator land. So long gentlemen. It’s been a fun several years of being allowed on here

  237. BradyBucs Says:

    Lamarcus,

Better go buy a Trask jersey. He’s going to be your Bucs QB for the next 10 years as soon as Brady retires.

  238. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

    LaMarcus looking for some attention

  239. Medicated Pete Says:

If Pete were Kyle, he’d be kicked the WR’s in the balls

  240. JimmyJack Says:

So far this is the perfect situation for fans. Trask actually looks pretty good out there but his statline is garbage with like 20% pass completion.

So when the games over the Trask fans can continue gliating and the haters can throw his stats back in our faces. The argument and fighting continues.

Now hopefully the Bucs can return something for the win and Teask can handoff to finish this.

  241. Tbbucs3 Says:

    BradyBucs

Trask will be making sandwiches at Subway for the next 10 years, he’s terrible

  242. Logan Says:

Biggest takeaway today…the Ryan Griffin love fest needs to be over. That dude has been warming that bench long enough.

  243. BradyBucs Says:

    Tbbucs3,

Stick to watching figure skating. You know nothing about football.

  244. JimmyJack Says:

Ummm dudes the Bengals just beat us. It might be time to hit the pannick button.

  245. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trask will look great in an Edmonton Eskimo’s Jersey next year.

  246. Tbbucs3 Says:

No chance in H Trask will be end up being better than Winston

    Not. A. Chance.

  247. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,

Trask is playing with scrubs that have dropped multiple passes that him them in the hands. Yet hasn’t thrown a single bad pass that could be picked off. He’s played very well for what he’s had to play with.

  248. BradyBucs Says:

    Tbbucs3,

Winston? LOL. That’s no saying much for a guy that was let go and no other team in the NFL wanted but one at nearly a vet minimum contract.

  249. Tbbucs3 Says:

    BradyBucs

    “Trask is playing with scrubs”

    He’s also playing against scrubs.

  250. Tbbucs3 Says:

    BradyBucs

Winston is about to be the starting QB for the Saints, as opposed to Trask who might not even make the team.

  251. Rod Munch Says:

Get a stop or let them score, but don’t let them get a 1st down without scoring or the game is over. Dummies.

  252. JimmyJack Says:

BradyBucs…..I will have to say that the high pass that Tanner caught very well could be an INT if O.J. Howard was the target. That was a very dangerous pass because it was so high.

But you dont have to argue with me. Im in Trasks corner after tonight. But trust me his haters will still be hating. Get your defense ready.

  253. Rod Munch Says:

Ronde keeps saying what I’m typing as I’m typing it. He’s totally stealing my material.

  254. JimmyJack Says:

This seems freaking wierd to watch a team run all over us.

  255. Rod Munch Says:

Alright Trask, you got to go 80 yards in 16 seconds. Prove you’re not a bust and get this done.

  256. Rod Munch Says:

oh man, the only thing you couldn’t do is take a sack. Wow.

  257. Rod Munch Says:

    Rookie mistake.

  258. JimmyJack Says:

    How did Jameis do tonight?

  259. BradyBucs Says:

    Tbbucs3,

You want to bet $10,000 that Trask makes the team? I’ll even give you 10:1 odds.

  260. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,

    WINSTON THREW ANOTHER INTERCEPTION TODAY.

    Any surprise?

  261. Rod Munch Says:

Jameis played the 2nd quarter, scored 14 points in that quarter, had 100 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.

SEE LOL! HE HAD AN INT! LOL!!!!! HE’S A BUST!!! LOL!!!!

It was a hail mary at the end of the past.

    DOESN’T MATTER HE’S A BUST!!! LOL!!!!

  262. Tbbucs3 Says:

    JimmyJack

Jameis did pretty darn good….threw a touchdown pass and was productive.

All you guys do is look at the INT numbers

  263. Joe Says:

why isnt jaelon darden playing and returning punts?

    ??????????????

    Didn’t watch the first half?

  264. Rod Munch Says:

Tbbucs3 – Don’t take the odds, I’ll give 100,000:1 that Trask makes the team, minimum of a $10,000 bet.

That would make you a mulit-multi-millionaire if I’m wrong! Take the bet, easy money!

  265. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Rod Munch

The Anti Jameis crew evaluates quarterbacks like 12 year olds.

They see 1 pick on the stat sheet and automatically assume he had a bad game.

  266. Rod Munch Says:

Also in New Orleans, Hill put up zero points and had an INT…

Winston puts up 14 points in a quarter and has an INT, people feign outrage. LOL!

It’s all fake news when it comes to Winston.

The biggest issue Winston is going to have in NO is their complete garbage at WR. But if you don’t think Payton is going to get a big year out of Winston, and have the Saints winning probably 10 games, you’re nuts. Payton is an excellent coach, look at what he did last year with Brees who had no arm left.

  267. BradyBucs Says:

Winston threw an 8 yard TD pass that a RB could throw on a trick play. It was nothing special.

He had 77 QB rating for a reason.

  268. JimmyJack Says:

Ask one Winston question and it will take over the comments. Been that way for 8 years now.

  269. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – I just watched the full 1st half, and that TD pass was perfectly placed with the corner in really tight coverage. That was not a easy TD throw in the least.

Winston looked good, on that TD drive he made a few really nice passes. The INT came on a deep ball where the WR knocked the ball straight into the air. Good read, good throw, 100% on the WR.

Hill mostly looked good. His RB fumbled deep, which cost them 7. He had an INT that was more on the WR than him. But he also threw a terrible pass that should have been intercepted, a really bad read and a really bad throw. He also took a bad sack where he should have thrown it away, but thought he could get past the guy. Also Hill was just dinking and dunking mostly, Winston was throwing down the field.

Winston had the better half, but Hill wasn’t bad either.

In either case it stinks, because I want Hill to be a bust since he’s the guy that gives the Bucs a hard time. But Sean Payton is going to have the Saints as being a good team, and if he can do that with no NFL caliber WRs, it’s going to be really impressive.

  270. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Pretty much. So many people want to see him fail, and they did while he was here as well. Never any context to anything, it’s never the kicker losing two games a year, it’s never the 32nd ranked defense losing games, nope, it’s the #3 offense that is to blame.

Anyways, I always liked Winston, but I also said if we can get Brady, you get Brady, he’s the GOAT, literally – not as a phrase, but he’s literally the greatest QB of all time. You don’t pass on that for anyone.

But man, no reason to bag on Winston because we got Brady. I love that, and I hope Winston does well so long as it doesn’t hurt the Bucs. When we play him however, I want to see one of those 6 INT games.

  271. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – I rewatched the highlights of this game and I’ll make correction. I conflated the end of the Hudson play near the endzone with the catch – so basically my mind melded the leap at the end with the catch into one. So you were right, the throw by Gabbert was good on the play.

  272. Trey Long Says:

That field is dangerous when wet, and it’s wet alot in Tampa. Can’t they get a dome. Last tear it almost took Evans out of the playoffs.

  273. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I think Trask can make it as an NFL starter. He seems like a Ryan Tannehill type to me. He isn’t going to put the team on his back and drag them deep into the post season. But he also isn’t going to throw games away with 3 or 4 interceptions. Let’s give the kid a chance Jeez. It wasn’t long ago QB’s held a clip board for 2 or 3 years before they saw action in a regular season game. At least Trask isn’t a one read and run QB.
