Bucs Release First Depth Chart
August 11th, 2021
Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.
Since this is a game week, there’s a depth chart. Some quick observations:
* On the offensive depth chart, Playoff Lenny is not the No. 1 running back. Despite blowing up in the postseason, it is Ronald Jones.
* Despite getting a load of targets in training camp, rookie receiver Jaelon Darden is listed behind Tyler Johnson.
* On the defensive depth chart, despite a mysterious injury, safety Jordan Whitehead is still a starter.
* At corner, Sean Murphy-Bunting is listed as a starter ahead of Jamel Dean.
* Kyle Trask is your Bucs No. 4 quarterback.
Of course, this is about as firm as a wet noodle. This time of the year coaches use a depth chart as much for motivation as accuracy.

Have not heard much about Britt but in your link, the author says that K.J. Britt is carving out an important role as a reserve.

I like Rojo over Lenny because Rojo hits full speed instantly and is clearly faster whereas Lenny has ok top end speed but it takes him ten yards to get there.

I just think Lenny needs a little more fire and concentration in every play. And with his potential, hope he can step it up a little more consistently. He certainly has the talent to be a number one.

Regarding Johnson over Darden, smart call. Darden needs to earn it in games before he can move up on that chart.

Same thing with Trask…he needs to prove something on the field before moving up on the depth chart.

From what I saw today, my money is on Trask at 3rd and Griffin on the practice squad.
It makes sense to have Gabbert as back-up this season and Trask holding the clipboard and listening intently.

After a couple preseason games- the depth chart should take shape.
Not much to it now.
Alot of practice heroes are gametime zeroes.
And visa versa.

1. Rojo over 4Net … seems psychological for both players. Don’t bruise Rojo’s fragile ego and piss 4Net off. Seemed to work last year.
2. Johnson over Darden is a bit of a surprise. Comfort level, maybe?
3. Trask is in the spot he’s earned. Regardless what you think of Winston. He balled in training camp as a rookie. Crushed it. This isn’t a rookie thing with Trask. This is a talent thing.

Give Trask a break people. He has only been in this system a short while. Gabbert has spent years in this system under BA and Griffin has had a few full seasons as well.
Let’s at least give Trask a few preseason games before we fire him out of our cannons…

Not sure how meaningful a preseason depth chart is worth.
Funny how for the first time ever there is no talk about filling holes from the waiver wire, you know, veteran cap casualties.
IMO, Jones is the better RUNNING back than Fournette. Had he not played hurt, Jones would have been equally solid in the playoffs. Have not camp reports stated Jones is catching the ball much better?
Jones is the most explosive back the Bucs have. That said, Arians has always been a “RB by committee” guy. This year he has 4 solid toys at that position. Last year at this time he had onebesides Jones, with McCoy showing very little.

In typical casual Bucs fashion, casuals are trashing Trask as some sort of bust.
If Trask ever sniffs regular season grass, it either means the Bucs are crushing opponents, or the Bucs suffered catastrophic injuries.
In my mind, Trask is a nobody right now.

I agree……I think those down on Trask would be that way no matter what….they didn’t like the pick and will always be skeptical.
I’ll be concerned about him in 2023.

Lenny frustrates me but still has the highest ceiling game to game, imo. He’s also rarely at his peak performance. Which I get in practices, so we will see if he applies supreme effort once regular games start. Or if he only gets to that level when he feels the games are “important enough”. Lenny’s beast mode is physical domination. He physically dominated opponents in the playoffs. RoJo can be physical and is, but Lenny can physically dominate people. That doesn’t translate to practices. It can’t. No one would stay healthy. So it’s very understandable for others to look better than Lenny in practice.
Everybody loved that bomb to Scotty going into the half in Green Bay. That play doesn’t happen if Lenny doesn’t recognize Gronk whiffing on his block and step in physically to protect Tom from the now free rusher. There were several other big pass pro pickups that Lenny made during the playoffs. Maybe Gio gives us that. RoJo has not. He’s been decidedly bad at recognition as well as execution protecting Tom. All the flash and dazzle of RoJo running the football is honestly irrelevant if he doesn’t step up big time with his protections. The drops from both are frustrating and easy to see.

i love the fact that BA isnt giving trask anything and the fact that he has a plan for his development….
the previous QB was talented but the previous staff never had a plan in place for his development…
trask has the talent to be a starter in this league…thankfully BA recognizes that and plans to develop him….

People need to lighten up on the whole Kyle Trask depth chart thing. The Buccaneers are handling it right. They knew he had plenty old to learn and we’re going to actually give him time to develop. He’s a player that may not see the field for at least a year or two because we have the best quarterback in the history of the national football league no exaggeration. If you bring him in on a preseason game and he looks good there’s local idiots that would want him to start the moment Tom Brady throws an interception. And yes I’m a gator fan and I know how stupid fans can be for all the schools. Keep in mind that I’m like Justin fields from Ohio State. Trevor Lawrence from Clemson. Or the kid from Alabama, Trask was on a team with no offense of line, no running game, and the worst defense in 100 years of cool history. Somehow he led the team breaking Danny Warfel’s records to an SEC championship game where he played Alabama better than any of the other quarterbacks. Relax give them time and don’t judge what you don’t know. Most of you have not seen them play in college or in practice.

I think a lot of people don’t understand why Griff and Gabbert are getting most of the second team snaps. One of them has to go.
Trask isn’t going anywhere for at least 4 years. One of the other two have to go and the coaches are trying to figure out which one.

Ronald Jones is a better running back than Fournette, it’s that simple, and the better Vaughn continues the look, the more likely it may be that Fournette will get the Shady McCoy treatment if he isn’t careful.
I’m sure Fournette will refuse to play special teams, so if he would happen to fall to that #4 spot on the depth chart I’m guessing they would cut or trade him in favor of a player that will help in that third phase of the game.

TB will the #1 started
Gabbert will be the #2 and primary backup
Trask will be the #3 and designated clipboard holder.
Griffin will be waived or put on the practice squad where someone will snag him.
JW was the 1st overall pick and had to start day one, so he better shine in camp. Check his sheet the man is balling.
Trask was the 64th pick, essentially a 3rd round pick. The only expectation for him is to make the starting roster. (Which he will)
Expectations are totally different between the two, as for long term careers. Only time will tell.

Marine Buc agree Gabbert been in the system here as well as Arizona and a perennial backup. Hopefully Trask will learn and be more than a perennial backup. Go Bucs!

Everyone, stop whining about trask. If he had somehow surpassed either gabbert or griffin, it would be extremely impressive. These guys both have years of experience in this offense. The bucs have been pretty clear that this has always been the plan yet every time he’s mentioned people seem to lose their minds.

I always loved reading comments like the one above that says the Bucs never had a plan to “develop Winston.”
LOLZ. GIVE ME A BREAK.
They had that kid in the facility non-stop. Watching film with him, working with him, trying to help him fix his weaknesses.
The Bucs organization did TONS to develop Winston.
Winston not improving isn’t because the Bucs organization didn’t try to do a good job at developing him. He didn’t improve because he’s a FLAWED ATHLETE with weaknesses that NO ONE has been able to ‘train’ out of him.
Winston struggles with DEFENSE PROCESSING. For whatever reason, he takes too long to fully process what a Defense is doing and then to make the right throws. So he holds the ball longer than average and often mismanages the risk of throws, leading to higher turnovers.
Does anyone really think the Bucs didn’t put in TONS of effort to develop Winston, a #1 overall pick and someone they were making the face of the franchise and someone destined to be the Highest Paid Player on their team?
C’MON. They did plenty to develop Winston. He just didn’t improve.

ROJO would have had a 1000 yard season but Brady wanted his buddy to get his cash bonus. You don’t get that many yards by accident. He deserves to start until somebody else proves they can do better. Lenny did great in the playoffs. Not so well during the regular season. Is he the better back ? If so he needs to show up every game and every carry.

To the people bashing Trask…Remember when people said:
1) Brady is washed up
2) AB would DESTROY the team
3) Donovan Smith can’t block anyone’s Grandma
4) Vea had nothing to do with the pass rush
5) Devin White was a wasted pick because he can’t cover
6) SMB should be cut immediately
7) Winfield Jr is a shrimp, and someone so short can’t play

If you only ready this blog about player performance you’ll never see how good Trask and others are doing. It might be joebuccy has personal feelings toward some players and doesn’t put out all the reports/interviews with Coach Arian’s
