Best in the game?
So many elements of the Bucs began clicking at an elite level last year all at the same time. Looking back on it, it blows Joe’s mind.
We all know about the secondary and the running backs finding new life after the bye. But how about the offensive line?
When the playoffs began, all we heard about was Washington and Chase Young hollering how he wanted park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.
If one just listened to the game on radio, you’d have no clue Young even played in the game.
That strong Bucs blocking carried on through the Super Bowl.
After going through stats and gametape, Ryan McCrystal of Sharp Football Analysis believes the Bucs now have the No. 4 offensive line in the NFL.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It’s tough to separate Tom Brady’s ability to get rid of the ball quickly from the offensive line’s production, but the line certainly deserves some credit for Brady only facing pressure on 24.9% of his dropbacks (third-lowest).
And remember in that historic run through Drew Brees and the slimy Saints, drama queen Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, and Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs, the Bucs offensive line dominated despite being down a starter, Alex Cappa, who blew up his ankle in the win at Washington.
Yeah, Brady deserves a lot of credit for being able to unload the ball quickly. Joe saw him avoid a “sack” by Lavonte David last week where Brady showed a quicker draw than the Waco Kid.
When your rookie right tackle may be the best in the world and you also erase BSPN’s favorite Ohio State grad in the playoffs, your offensive line is damn good.
Joe doesn’t think it is a stretch to type that this Bucs line is the best in team history.

Not just the ‘best in team history’ Joe, but also 80% home-grown. And oh ya, surely the highest-paid in team history, for good reason.

The Bucs have a top 3 Offense and maybe the #1 offense in the League.
Now couple that offense with a top 5 defense and the Bucs are scary good.
This team is a living nightmare for anyone to beat.
To beat this Bucs team, you had better be ready to score at least 30-35, but with the Bucs Defense that will be a tall order to say the least. The Bucs will dominate time of possession this year so the defense will have plenty of rest to stay sharp game in and game out.

It is also a relief that the backup crew seems solid, including this Leverett kid who is impressing everybody. And Donny is having a good camp!

Hodad: It’s the Browns, Aints, and Cowgirls. Can’t say that I analysed any line play of those teams – but at least the Girls are surprising, regarding the results ol last season.

Wow, a list that I have no arguments with. As far as Young goes he is far and away the most over hyped rookie that I can think of. Shiver me timbers 7.5 sacks! Pure silliness. He’s nearing Julio Jones (waves at Ira. Love ya man!) levels of over hype.

Not at all. They are significantly better than the 2002 Buccaneers that’s for sure.
Remember the days when people used to blame Jay-Miss’ constant sacks and interceptions on the offensive line? Dumb!

The line was healthy and intact for mostly the whole season. I doubt that will happen again. Consequently Brady will face pressure at a higher rate. That’s not good. Also, they played above their talent level. That line wasn’t expected to perform as well as they did. Y’all know that. I was astounded. Pray for line health. You can absorb a couple receivers going down, but Brady can’t get away from my dead grandma anymore

Should be a good head to head test of two great offensive lines on opening day. McCrystal has the Cowboys offensive line ranked as #3. I have a suspicion our defense will get after Prescot just like they did Mahomes in the SB.

If the rankings were from 2016, I might agree with the Cowboys OL being rated that high, but age, departures, etc. have wreaked havoc on that once-proud line.
