Flashbacks
August 4th, 2021One of the greatest things about the Bucs finally turning the franchise around last year and leaving The Lost Decade in the ash heap of history is that there is no more bad kicker merry-go-round.
Or is it history?
Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians had an offhand comment about veteran kicker Ryan Succop that gave Joe the shivers.
In offering a critique on Succop, Arians noted that he doesn’t need a lot of work because he’s a veteran, but Arians wasn’t exactly glowing in his analysis.
“He’s been up-and-down, to put it mildly,” Arians said.
Uh oh.
Arians quickly noted it is still the first week of August and the season-opener against the Cowboys is a month away. Plenty of time to work things out.
“We’ve got all the confidence he’s going to figure it out real quick and get his timing back down and speed his operation up just like he did last year,” Arians said. “He’s in really good shape, best shape he said he feels in the last four or five years. So I don’t have any questions about [that] he’ll get it ironed out.”
Why is Joe starting to look for a bottle of TUMS? Here we thought this stuff was all in the past. Ugh.
Joe got a text from an NFL source earlier in training camp asking how does it feel to finally watch the Bucs practice with two good kickers for a change? It felt boring as heck, which Joe thought was awesome!
Joe is seriously hoping that text wasn’t an example of jumping the gun.

Joe(s) … try Prilocec.
Honestly, it’s by far the best heartburn medicine on the planet.
It’s not fast acting like Alka seltzer but taken daily … you will never get heartburn.
For those of us on Medicare part d get protonix. Same thing but ony costs $1,30 for 3 months.
Prilocec costs $5.00 a week.

Don’t they use the skinny posts in practice?

Are you sure about that, Rod? Seems the Bucs have had a lot of kickers do just that.

Sounds like he may have Biles Syndrome.

Succop is fine….this is simply BA’s customary motivation speak.
I’d rather carry two kickers than 4 QBs. one for inside the 40 and another with a big leg for longer kicks.
You have to ask yourself, “Which one would be used more….a 2nd kickier or a 4th QB?”

Pete, start?

@Tyler I can’t lie I’ve wondered why that kid hasn’t been brought in to someone’s camp. Although kicking on YouTube and kicking in an NFL game is totally different the kid has a leg. Hell even Pat McAfee has commented on how he thinks the kid should be given a shot in someone’s camp.
