“It Was My Own Fault For Not Coming In The Way I Wanted To Be”
August 3rd, 2021Bucs second-year receiver Tyler Johnson was manning up today before the lights and cameras after practice.
Johnson was asked quickly about Bucco Bruce Arians scolding him publicly for reporting to camp out of shape.
Johnson agreed with Arians’ take and offered no excuse.
“It was my own fault for not coming in the way I wanted to be,” Johnson said, adding that he’s just trying to get at least 1 percent better each day toward his goals.
Later, Johnson talked about how “I represent the organization” and how important that and Tom Brady’s trust is to him.
As for Brady’s guidance to the second-year receiver who had two big plays in the playoffs, “He’s heavy on me being quick at the line of scrimmage,” Johnson said.
It was an intriguing comment considering the Bucs just went out and drafted a fourth-round receiver known for quickness. Johnson is a more physical receiver and was a fifth-rounder.
Joe’s not down on Johnson, who turns 23 later this month. Though it’s red flag to return to a Super Bowl winner out of shape, it’s something he can/will learn from — hopefully.

It is good he can accept criticism, because some receivers are Diva’s who balk at criticism.

He manned up and admitted it was on him. Now get 100% into shape, and all will be forgotten. A young man that likely got too much home cooking. Hard to tell mom or who ever is doing the cooking, that you can’t eat this or that.

Though it’s red flag to return to a Super Bowl winner out of shape
You would think that was common sense yes being on a super bowl team but also being loaded with talent at his position.

Kelvin Benjamin showed up at Giants camp at 270lbs, so it could be worse.
How much over weight could Johnson really be, 4 or 5lbs? It’s not like he has the Jameis Winston physique.

It takes massive balls or stupidity for this 5th string WR to stroll into One Buc Palace outta shape like a big lummox
August 3rd, 2021 at 12:07 pm
you don’t show up out of shape with TB at qb.
he’s toast.
August 3rd, 2021 at 12:09 pm
Relax. Isn’t training camp intended for players to work themselves into football shape?
BA played the “commitment card” by publicly calling TJ out. That’s fair. Tyler Johnson acknowledged he needs to get better prepared. Message sent and understood.
The horse is dead, its done.

Robert brings the drama.
Toast? Hardly. TJ knows this. TB knows this. TJ can play if given some reps.
August 3rd, 2021 at 12:21 pm
TB don’t play that $hit. TJ was on his $hit list at the end of the year with a drop or two and now come in out of shape…….and I am being dramatic. hardly.

The way I wanted to be…
That’s some double talkin jive if I’ve heard it.
August 3rd, 2021 at 12:46 pm
@Robert: Johnson made a monster catch and drew a monster PI in the playoffs…
I suspect all TB did was give Johnson a copy of his book as mandatory reading.

Chris@apple…
I don’t think that he didn’t had other option. If you come to training camp out of shape, who are you going to blame? Your cooker?

That weight better help his special teams play
August 3rd, 2021 at 2:18 pm
Some folks take longer to figure out how to be a pro. He will learn from this and will still contribute in a positive way as he works himself back into shape and out of BA’s doghouse.

“The way I wanted to be?” You knew you were out of shape.
August 3rd, 2021 at 3:38 pm
Special teams will get him in shape.
August 3rd, 2021 at 7:38 pm
He’s young. He made a mistake. He will hopefully learn from it.
August 3rd, 2021 at 10:39 pm
Let’s get real. TJ did not look obese. No actual weight comparison was made public. Arians needed to chew somebody’s ass and TJ was the target this time. From the coaches, to Brady, to many other Bucs the message to the younger players is expectations are sky high. Be a fully committed pro or be gone. Love the new Buc Attitude! Even playoff Lenny finally got the message.

It’s deeper than the weight – although I love the talent he has, how do you not do everything you can in the off-season with TB12 in your ear?
HUGE mistake kid….WR5/6 is the easiest position to replace in the current NFL
Evans
Godwin
Brown
Miller
Darden
??? 6 potential prospects
Good luck!

He sounds like a good character guy. He’ll learn from it and be better. I’m pulling for him.
